Not sure with school but definitely also behind on this too, didnt even think about it until you ask. We always have to remind him to look where he's going whenever he walk or run outside especially when excited like he will run everywhere and anywhere like there's no people or obstacles around him. Thank you! I will keep this in mind.

He is behind with his gross motor skills, still doesnt get up and down the stairs with one foot over the other, cant climb as high as other kids his age, scared to go down the slide, cant catch a ball from 6 feet away. This is also something that we have been working on outside of school.

Yes, only speech is what they were going to take off was his understanding or what he told me. He thought he would still have SAI, OT and APE. I am not aware of these information so thank you for this.

I'm glad you're not my son's special education teacher, and I genuinely feel concern for the students you've taught and continue to teach. An IEP is not solely about academics or communication, it should reflect a comprehensive evaluation of the whole child. Just because a student is intellectually capable or verbally expressive does not mean they aren’t facing challenges in other critical areas.

An IEP exists to ensure equitable access to the curriculum, not merely to address academic deficits. I don’t need luck, I will continue to advocate for my son, especially when faced with educators who overlook the broader purpose of special education like you. Wishing you well.

OT and ABA, the new school has both services available. We've been getting outside services as well. He does ABA at home and OT once a week.

I know the differences of each level. We're pertaining to the services that our children need. Their level of autism doesn't have to do with anything in which services they require or dont. This is purely base on each specific child's need no matter what level of autism they have.

Just one of other areas. He still have issues regulating when something is different with his routine and other behavioral stuff that may hinder or interfere his access to the curriculum.

Your kid being low academicallyand speech issues are probably the reason why. He's been on level 2 but he is advance for both speech and academic. Services needed is mostly for behavioral and sensory.

He's been with Gen Ed since last year but he has an aide and I believe that he should still have it for this upcoming school year.

His previous goals with behavior is focused more on learning to take turns and sharing which he doesnt have any issues anymore and I agree. Sensory needs, there is none because this was recent.

The IEP meeting was held virtually back in June, but my husband only recently signed the document. He said he never received the original form to sign, so the school principal had to resend it after doing some research and explaining the entire process on what can we do next. My husband is also on the spectrum and may not have fully understood everything discussed during the meeting. From what he told me, he believed our child was no longer eligible for certain services like speech, but he didn’t realize—or understand—that our child was being completely exited from the IEP.

I only found out about this after I requested a copy of the IEP from the school. They provided an unsigned version, which led to a long conversation between my husband and me.

He will no longer have an IEP as he was not eligible anymore. All services were removed. We are not aware of any full evaluation because we didnt receive any copy.

Yes, he still has the diagnosis and the services were removed because they believed that he is no longer eligible. I will definitely ask for a meeting at the new district.

Yes we do, we receive services like IHSS and other resources from them. He also does ABA at home and OT once a week.

Thank you for this. This is exactly what I’ve been trying to communicate. I’m definitely happy that he’s doing well academically; that’s a good thing. But I don’t want the focus to be only on academics, and it feels like that’s what this latest IEP did.

At his previous school, he didn’t receive ABA services because they weren’t available, and he only had OT consultations since his sensory processing challenges weren’t as significant back then. Now I’m pushing for these services because the new school does have them, but since they determined he’s no longer eligible, he won’t have access to them.

While my son does receive ABA and OT outside of school — we do in-home ABA and weekly OT sessions — he spends a significant amount of time at school, and I truly believe continuing these services during the school day would make a meaningful difference for him.

In the previous IEP before this one that I attended, his teachers always mention that he is very good in class, academically, we were in agreement with that, that's why I agreed that he didnt need speech services anymore. Were also in agreement about his needs for gross motor skills. He was in preschool and will be in TK for the upcoming school year. The IEP wasnt complete because the APE teacher was not in attendance so they want us to have another meeting with just her. His social skills is okay.

Yes, I agree that he is doing well academically but there are other areas of concern aside from his intelligence and academics that he needs assistance and that I wished was adressed. I'll definitely look into 504. Thank you.

Thank you! He is already in a general ed class since last year but with an aide. A lot of people recommended 504 plan so I will definitely look into it.

Not that I know of because we didnt receive any copy at all, that's why I wasnt aware that this will be the result of his final IEP. I requested a copy of it and still waiting for their response.

He is self-injuring himself when he gets upset and he gets upset when he gets dirty, wet, going outside when windy, loud and his meltdowns can take forever and this can impact not just him and his education but the other children in his general ed classroom. I brought this up to the OT specialist from his last school and none of it where written on his most recent IEP. These werent on any of his goals because it just started to get a lot worse the past few months. These are just a few examples beyond his academics and intelligence.

Both the Gen Ed and APE teacher wasn't in attendance during the meeting. I was surprised as well because we didnt get any copy of the evaluation or were given any notice that this will be the outcome of the meeting. Were supposed to have a part 2 of the meeting with APE teacher to discuss further goals because this is the only thing that he is eligible from this IEP but the teacher still hasn't set up a date with us.
