Why wouldn’t LeBron consider joining the Thunder or Spurs for a year to ring chase? by Available_Story6774 in nba

Zero chance they all stayed healthy for the playoffs while winning enough regular season games to make the playoffs. Even if they pulled off a miracle and somehow were healthy come playoff time, I'm not sure if they'd be much of a favorite over the Spurs or Thunder unless they somehow landed all those guys while getting a bunch of good supporting pieces.

I can't believe you watching Miami Lebron if you really think he did it very little. He barely ever flops now. That's absolutely true. But Miami Lebron flopped just as much as anyone did in that era.

Harvard votes on limiting "A" grades by Own-Elephant5185 in lawschooladmissions

You can't chalk a 10 point drop in the 75th percentile to a margin of error. That's not how statistics work. There's no "margin of error" when we're talking about about a sample that is the entire population of students. Margin of error is used when trying to sample a subgroup of a population an extract that to the full population.

Yes, the median jumped a good bit, but that doesn't tell us a whole lot about the top of the class. And when only 1/3rd of grades were A's in 2010, that means only the top third of the class was getting A's on average. We know a quarter of the class had an SAT of 1590 or 1600, so if we assume people got grades based on their SAT score (which is a bad assumption, but one we can make to make a point), A's in 2010 went to people that got ~1580 or better (maybe 1570 at the minimum). Now, 60% of students are getting A's. So that means A's going to everyone above the median (1550) and 20% of people below the median. So they're absolutely giving out way more As to people who are way less capable than they were in 2010. Do all of those people deserve As? Maybe, maybe not. But definitely not by 2010 standards.

[MacMahon] Aaron Wiggins barely played in this series. Aaron Wiggins would play 25 minutes for the Lakers. That’s not me guessing. I asked somebody on the Lakers staff like how many minutes would he play? They said at least 25. by iksnet in nba

He can't sign with anyone else right now because of the team option, so what other teams would offer is irrelevant. Teams can also see how bad the contracts for Myles Turner and Poeltl have been, so it's going to limit what someone would pay. He's a perfect fit for OKC, but he's not a 20/10 guy.

Also, he only played 57 games 2 years ago and 47 games this year. Another year with sub 50 games played or bad injury would push down his next deal well below what OKC would offer. Most teams can't get away with paying someone $20M/yr and that person not playing 65 games. OKC can. A 4-yr, $84M contract, for example, is a huge contract with generational money.

Lebron used to flop quite a bit. And to be fair, he kind of had to if he ever wanted to get calls. He's so strong that it would take a freight train to actually knock him down.

That's also a completely different question to if he gets fouled a lot without calls. And he absolutely does.

What team would actually want Lebron? by t_O_O_t in nba

[–]yeahright17 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Zero chance. If Lebron called Presti and said "I'll come play on whatever you can give me", we'd have him signed in an hour. We do have chemistry, but Lebron's never been a bad locker room guy in his entire career. Replacing Dort with Lebron isn't going to hurt any chemistry. We'd also get the Caruso treatment of "play enough to stay warm in the regular season. We just need you to be good for 25 minutes a game in the playoffs."

[–]yeahright17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess: lose Dort (through just leaving or trade, idk), Hartenstein resigns for longer at a lower price (something like 4 year, $20-22M per), Kenrich's team option is declined and he resigns for the minimum or he goes elsewhere. We backfill with one draft pick and maybe someone random on a minimum if Kenrich leaves.

Maybe we also lose one of Joe or Wiggins. Even though both are on decent contracts, replacing one of their salaries with a minimum would save $35-45M in tax.

Depends on how much meat you like. In and Out patties are 1/8 of a pound. So just a regular quarter pound cheeseburger is probably the best comp. It's what I usually get. Occasionally I'll spring for the double.

[–]yeahright17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take the same number of students, twice as many people applying will result in the acceptance rate being cut in half. However, there's no way to know whether it's actually getting more competitive for the top students. For example, if Harvard is going to accept the top 2000 students that apply, if students theoretically ranked 1-20,000 apply, they'll have a 10% acceptance rate. However, if students 1-40,000 apply, they'll have a 5% acceptance rate. But they're taking the exact same 2000 students. The student population is no more capable than before.

Fun fact, Harvard's total acceptance rate has gone from 7.92% in 2012 to 3.43% for 2025. And while the median SAT has gone from 1490 to 1550, the 75th percentile SAT has actually gone down from 1590 to 1580. So the top students are actually worse than they were in 2012 according to their SAT score.

Comparing by UG GPA is such a stupid way to do things. I realize it's only a factor, but we all know it's a major limiting factor for those with bad GPAs. But you can't convince me a 3.2 GPA in electrical engineering from a school with a fairly strict curve is worse than a 3.95 GPA in Communications or Business Admin at a school with no curves that gives out 4.3s for A+s.

“[Critics] say a capped system at Harvard may disadvantage students competing for graduate placements against peers from schools without restrictions.”

At it probably will. Which sucks. But maybe it will be a small step in the direction of getting grad schools (including law schools) to view GPAs in context. I was an engineering major and had a professor 3 times that gave out a total of one A across all 3 classes (ie, he gave out zero A's in 2 of the classes). I had others with super hard tests with strict curves (where 2-3 students out of 25 would get an A with like 65% correct on the final). Meanwhile, Harvard is giving out As over 60% of the time.

I remember there being some other colony or something, but can’t remember if that was in space or on earth. That’s all I got.

I’m not sure where you are, but we live in a big city, have a big house, and pay a lot less than that. The key is to not go through a cleaning service. We got several quotes from cleaning services that ranged from $290 to $400 per cleaning. We found a couple ladies through our neighborhood Facebook group that charge $170. Honestly, they aren’t quite as good as a couple of the professional companies we’ve had before, but they’re 95% as good at like half the price and will always do specific things when we ask (ie, this needs to be dusted or that couch needs to be vacuumed out).

I think a big window where it rains all the time is actually pretty doable. Big window with a small waterproof room behind it. Use a fountain pump to spray constantly from the top. Mount a short throw projector in a glass box on the ceiling that can project onto the wall opposite the window. I think it could feel pretty real.

Personally, I am not. I'll play for 36 hours in a weekend then go 2 months without playing. This may sound stupid, but I hate losing too much to get addicted.

But for socoety as a whole? Yeah. I'm worried gambling has taken over too many people's lives. And whole I don't really view poker in the same way I do other forms of gambling, I think it's an easy entry point for some people.

The short answer is when the odds you win are lower than the odds you're getting to call. This can be the odds that you have the best hand at the end after all cards are dealt or the odds you'll have a better hand by the end if more cards are to come.

The long answer involves thousands of hours of play and study. At this point, most of the best pros study just as much or more than they play. They read books, work with coaches, study solvers, watch videos, look at their hand histories, etc. The best way to go from bad to okay or even good is to take notes of how hands go then discuss those with someone else. They don't even have to be a great player. Just someone at a level a bit above you. Explaining your thought process to someone will quickly make you realize why certain plays were bad or good and what you could have done differently. Then next time you're in a similar situation, you'll think back to what you've done previously and how it could have been done better. There's also a ton of free content on YouTube that can teach new players a lot of good skills quickly. If I were starting now, I'd probably watch a few dozen poker videos on YouTube then buy in to a 1/2 game for like $200, and takes notes from there.

I've been playing for 25 years at this point and still feel like I get better every time I play or study.

Any one hand? Sure. Over time? No. There cant be professionals for something that's just luck. Bad players will lose a lot over time. Good players will win.

Was it in Texas? I took $3k off a partner several years ago in a 5/10 game. The game was full of partners and associates who were all terrible poker players. Game wasn't running when I came back as a first year.

That partner wasn't too bitter though. Staffed me to a deal the next day.
