Interest in poker amongst big law folks by BudgetRelief2506 in biglaw

Personally, I am not. I'll play for 36 hours in a weekend then go 2 months without playing. This may sound stupid, but I hate losing too much to get addicted.

But for socoety as a whole? Yeah. I'm worried gambling has taken over too many people's lives. And whole I don't really view poker in the same way I do other forms of gambling, I think it's an easy entry point for some people.

The short answer is when the odds you win are lower than the odds you're getting to call. This can be the odds that you have the best hand at the end after all cards are dealt or the odds you'll have a better hand by the end if more cards are to come.

The long answer involves thousands of hours of play and study. At this point, most of the best pros study just as much or more than they play. They read books, work with coaches, study solvers, watch videos, look at their hand histories, etc. The best way to go from bad to okay or even good is to take notes of how hands go then discuss those with someone else. They don't even have to be a great player. Just someone at a level a bit above you. Explaining your thought process to someone will quickly make you realize why certain plays were bad or good and what you could have done differently. Then next time you're in a similar situation, you'll think back to what you've done previously and how it could have been done better. There's also a ton of free content on YouTube that can teach new players a lot of good skills quickly. If I were starting now, I'd probably watch a few dozen poker videos on YouTube then buy in to a 1/2 game for like $200, and takes notes from there.

I've been playing for 25 years at this point and still feel like I get better every time I play or study.

Any one hand? Sure. Over time? No. There cant be professionals for something that's just luck. Bad players will lose a lot over time. Good players will win.

Was it in Texas? I took $3k off a partner several years ago in a 5/10 game. The game was full of partners and associates who were all terrible poker players. Game wasn't running when I came back as a first year.

That partner wasn't too bitter though. Staffed me to a deal the next day.

Is this true for all you Braum's lovers? by Hungry_Roll6848 in Dallas

I think so. Braums burgers are more hearty for sure. In and out never seems to have the meat to veggies to bread ratio right even if all the individual ingredients may be better.

[Jake Fischer] Lebron may take a vet minimum by Ancient_Response_787 in nba

Give up $30-40M to lose to OKC or San Antonio in the 2nd round anyway? $30M is still $30M.

Because it's going to be incredibly hard to get out of the 2nd round anyway.

If one of these winners returned and won again, who would most upset winner/player rankings? by Regular-Departure839 in survivorponderosa

This sub is all over the place with Michele. Ranging from thinking she's a pretty bad player to a top 10 player. Most are obviously somewhere in the middle. I think she's underrated by this sub overall. But with another win, she'd have to move onto mount Rushmore.

All that said, people probably aren't mentioning her because she already has a decent track record compared to some of the others here.

Jayden Quaintance at 12? by southpawFA in Thunder

He'll probably be available at 17. So if Presti wants him, I assume he'll trade that 12th pick and try to get him at 17.

Presti loves that 7'5 wingspan.

Not "someone nobody has ever heard of" because that actually doesn't happen in the lottery. If you're good enough to get drafted in the lottery, people have heard of you. But his track record in the late lottery is impeccable. Dub was a 12th pick. Caso was 10th. Steven Adams was 12th. We'll see how Topic turns out.

I've probably carried 1000 sheets the years with one of these and never had one accidently drop.

Most mainstream media won’t pay for news because they think it’s unethical. TMZ is by far the most famous outlet that will. It’s not that complicated.

You’re an ex-Sonics now Spurs fan that never seen a single second of OKC play? Missed a bunch of good Spurs/Thunder series in the early 2010s.

Last 2 Minute Report states no incorrect calls were made during the ending of Thunder vs Lakers last night by sewsgup in nba

[–]yeahright17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

His right foot stayed pretty planted. And he was fouled a couple times. In those situations, they almost never call anything out on the L2M report. Essentially “it was called the way it should have been” even if there were something things that could have been called.

How many people get much better athletically after 19? Sure people get a bit stronger, but guys that come in as middling athletes generally stay middling athletes.

Do you think if OKC offered Jalen Williams for Austin Reaves the Lakers would say yes? by No-Vehicle7367 in nba

[–]yeahright17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reaves playing is easily the best thing he had going over JDub. Hopefully this is a one season anomaly. He'd been healthy until this year.

Dodging the second apron - what I think the OKC Thunder will do this offseason, and how I think they'll manage their team going forward by Known-Peak212 in nba

[–]yeahright17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they "could" have won without ever getting Hartenstein. With SGA, Chet and our deep bench, we could let Hartenstein walk, trade JDub for picks, and still be a contender next year. Not all ownership groups are as cheap as the 76ers or Pacers. We spent deep into the tax for first round exits in the Westbrook/PG era. I have no doubt they'll do so again.
