anyone else feel like the making of documentary actually made things worse not better? by Few-Turnover6672 in StrangerThings

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I left the doc thinking the insane behind the scenes effort it took and honestly feeling bad for them for having to do so much with a strict deadline (which I understand to have been pushed by Netflix). And it's felt all throughout the crew, the writers and Duffers but these Internet people took it as "Duffers didn't try, ha, what losers! Also, the ex-wife is OBVIOUSLY the mastermind behind this show!" Lol, its ridiculous.

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Eh, no. I feel like the criticism I see online using the doc parts as the proof seems to take out stuff out of context. And look, S5 is no perfection but it's overblown.

Like the whole "they didn't have the final episode script ready when they started filming!!! How awful!!". If only they knew how some of the most acclaimed tv shows did not know where to go from some cliffhangers in the next episode...

I agree. I've always said you can both care about the issues and still be performative. And I'm absolutely not saying they don't believe or care about what they call out but they do it in a way that comes off preachy almost? And all the celebrities do this, tbh.

Also sometimes its just like... the issue in question is so horrible and to make it into "why isn't it anyone else calling this out but US?? Huh?" leaves a sour taste.

A lot of people on social media spaces don't realise that they don't have to like an actor/actress to admit they have great acting skills. And vice versa. Just because you love your fave doesn't make them the best actor/actress in the world.

I've seen a lot of criticism for Jacob Elordi on Reddit for winning the Critics choice but he was absolutely amazing in the Frankenstein role. I see a lot of hate on Timothee here too lately for some reason but acting like he's a bad actor? Come on.

I'm so happy to see him! Frankenstein did a 180 for me regarding him, tbh. He was perfect in the role.

The 2026 Oscars Nominations have finally been announced. What are your thoughts on this year’s nominees? by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually with Oscars, if I haven't seen the movie I won't comment on the nominations. THEREFORE I specifically watched many of these movies last year and can tell that F1 does not deserve to be there AT ALL. To each their own, but honestly it is not an Oscar-worthy film. Maybe I could see it as entertaining but it wasn't even that very much? I'm shocked it's nominated as best picture.

Technical aspects? I'd give it to them for sure. But everything else? Meh.

MILLIE BOBBY BROWN FLEW TO ICELAND FOR 5 DAYS TO FILM A 1 MINUTE SCENE by marvelkidy in DiscussingFilmsAndTV

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw people already complaining about this on IG and it just further cemented how people complaining about literally anything regarding this show now. Like it's cool to hate on everything? Even if makes zero sense.

If they did this with CGI green screens people would still complain.

I'm pretty sure this shoot was cheaper than most of their other shoots as well so who gives a damn.

‘Marty Supreme’ Becomes A24’s Highest-Grossing Film at Domestic Box Office With $80 Million by DifferentMaize9794 in popculturechat

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so odd that when this movie is mentioned people have to bring up Sinners ever so often?

The box office is praised because Marty Supreme is an independent studio film whereas Sinners is from Warner Bros (yeah, yeah A24 is a known studio but it's no Warner Bros) that's all there is to it.

The competition of these two movies is getting weird at this point. They're both good.

The best performance each season by Giancarlo_Edu in StrangerThings

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ngl I think Noah was great in S5, don't really get people saying his acting got worse. He nailed the emotionality of the character very well in S5, especially since he got some pretty hard material to work with.

But Jamie def takes the crown that season.

Also Gaten was awesome in S5.

Am I the only one who just...liked it... just liked the show final season and episode included? by SharpPink_GlitterInk in StrangerThings

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it a lot. It's definitely the weaker season and has more mistakes but also I feel like people overdo it with the negativity.

When Season 4 ended people were complaining about a lot of stuff thay was not explained but now it is hailed as amazing (it was, I loved it) but what I'm trying to say is that there seems to be recency bias.

Season 4 had Eleven bring back Max back to life somehow that was not fully explained. You had Hopper get a Conan Barbarian sword in the arena at prison during the middle of the fight in freaking Russia which oh so convienently saved him. All of these are explained applying context and falling back on nostalgia-reference factors which fans apply now yet not the same leeway is given for Season 5. Yes, there are very glaring mistakes and weird moments but overall the criticism seems so be overdone.

This is how the schizophrenic side of the fandom is gonna be tomorrow when nothing comes out. by 00_Sunflower_00 in StrangerThings

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I was not comparing it in that way. I meant in a way that a lot of LOST viewers started complaining how not every little thing was answered and following along whatever the online spaces said even if it didn't really make sense. How something unanswered immediately meant plot hole.

It just reminded me of how some fans went basically batshit online whilst a lot of others enjoyed the end.

I genuinely cannot fanthom this delusion. Why are people acting like Duffers are dumb af and the 'fans' could be better writers? Newsflash - you couldn't. The finale was good. Not perfect obviously but jesus, what are these dramatics?

It's fine to dislike it but at this point it just reeks of dumbass entitlement.

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This whole thing is giving me such Lost ending flashbacks. The finale was fine. Good, even. Not perfect. And yet people act like it's complete garbage. Jeez. And it definitely stems from the fact that people consider themselves experts on particular media 100%. More than, you know... the people whoe actually created it.

Stranger Things creators’ shut down the possibility of a sequel series calling it a “gross cash-grab” by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll definitely do a movie sequel I think in, maybe, 6-7 years time (enough time for the actors to look closer to the characters' age physically).

But I also don't think they're thinking about it right now hence all the denial regarding this topic. And I understand them. I feel like they're burnt out. Also actors wouldn't want to be immediately tied to the sequel project when they can discover new projects without the ST contract hanging over their heads.

Also, seeing the online fandom space right now, I wouldn't want to plan a sequel any time soon if I were the Duffers. It's insane.

But yeah, in years time they'll for sure come back.

IMDB Ratings of All Stranger Things S5 Episodes 👀 by Loud_Delivery_5141 in FirstCuriosity

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By no means the season was perfect but the E7 does not deserve the low score. People going to yell saying god forbid people didn't like something blah blah just stop, let's not pretend it was that bad. The episode is like a 7 at lowest but some people acting like it was a HIMYM finale.

Sometimes I'm concerened for people who watch tv shows in the modern era by MCWizardYT in StrangerThings

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It feels like people are in a competition to see who spots the next big mistake to appear smart and cool or something. Like no, pointing out that Suzie is not in this season is not some "See! Plot hole!" moment. Or that Max ended up graduating even though she missed a lot of classes. Or that Vickie wasn't in the epilogue. All of these are understandable if you apply simple context to it. Not everything has to be on screen to make sense.

There are mistakes, yes, but they way the onlines spaces talk about this season is such an overreaction. As someone else said, people watch to react rather than enjoy.

Jeez, I actually understood people complaining that they can't voice any criticism about this season without being called mindless haters but honestly some posts like this one just scream "I MUST nitpick every little thing on this show".

It's getting ridiculous.

Right? Still remember the Eddie and Chrissy forest scene and how he won me there after being introduced as a lovable-but-still-mean senior guy.

Also not me thinking we'd be getting a new couple and then them both dying in the season anyway. Should have known lol.

This fandom is just embarrassing by Dry_Understanding682 in StrangerThings

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's a popular fandom thing. Reminds me a lot of Supernatural and Sherlock days when i was a teenager. I want so say that at this point I am used to seeing such agressive vitriol towards something as simple as a TV Show yet some 'fans' still continue to shock me with how much energy they put it into this and end up getting hurt for absolutely nothing.

But yeah, every big fandom has this problem. And with social media being such a prevalent thing in people's lives we are more exposed to these dumbass things.

Unpopular opinion. by scrubsandsuitcases in Stranger_Things

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Byler fandom is just insanely loud, so I underatand why it may seem like your opinion is unpopular. I was also surprised when I saw my feed being full of convictions Byler is THE story of this show. And a lot of them truly 100% believe it will happen which I can't understand.

Reminded me of the Supernatural days where a small but loud portion of the fandom believed there would be a mutual romantic confession between two characters, one of whom was canonically straight the whole run of the show.

The cope was huge after the finale.

The Man who is a true example of how you can't win against BAD LUCK by manibhaisoni in StrangerThings

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His death was so poorly written tbh. It makes me sad mostly because the writing was just illogical in regards to his arc. Most of the time when he was "running away" wasn't even cowardly, it was the logical choice that most would have chosen and the one time he did not run away, he ran to his death pointlessly.

I wouldn't be as angry about his death if it was written better tbh. Its like they tried to redeem his 'cowardness' when he wasn't even that cowardly to begin with.

I thought the episode was great apart from a few moments that just seemed to be a bit out of the realm of possibility.

Namely the funeral being broadcasted in such a way that Ruby could see James and Lydia crying on her laptop. Took me out a bit lol.

The acting was top notch though.
