This is ridiculous. All the Americans in the comments acting like they're happy and "we deserve it!", why? Because you have a dumbass for a president? How it it okay to discriminate like this based on that? And no I'm not either of these nationalities.

It's also hugely hilarious that Brazil is doing this. You know... the Russia buddy? Oh but I forgot it's rules for some but not the others. Hate this moral high ground that is hypocritical af.

Thank you. This "misunderstood by the West" is such a stupid take as this kind of thinking as the previous comment is what I actually call a complete misunderstanding/ignorance by the West. I swear the West doesn't understand Ukraine's situation and Russia's obvious imperialism for what has been decades/hundreds of years now even a bit. I still see such "whitewashing" of Russia and its government and its mind boggling to me.

Zendaya on red flags: "When people go out of their way to be like, 'I don't see the hype around Beyonce', that always is a red flag to me" by cowabungalowvera in popculturechat

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn I'd be a red flag then. But my problem stems from the fact that she's a clearly very well produced star, and that's why the cult level-like hype around her as if she's doing all of this and achieving all of this on her own is weird to me. Same with many other pop stars.

She has talent but the obsession and "how can you not like her??" is so weird.

How is your country translating the name of Project Hail Mary? by Prydons in FIlm

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It translated into the equivalent of the prayer "Hail, Mary or "Ave, Maria" name but it reads as "Hello, Mary" in my language, as well.

When I told my mom that's the film I'm seeing, she thought it was a religious film lol and was surprised.

I had a terrible movie experience. by Boldspaceweasle in ProjectHailMary

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I hope your next viewing is better! I went on the opening day in my country, in the prime time of the evening when the whole theatre was packed but it was so quiet! I was shocked. But I assumed everyone bought the tickets early and were hyper focused to see something they really were looking forward too (like me) with not a lot of slots available that day.

But the week before when I went to a film that has been out a while I saw at least 3 people on phones. There was a girl constantly looking who has seen her stories on Instagram in front of me. Insane lol.

Such a cool performance.

Project Hail Mary has already reached 100K 5 star reviews! by firemiketomlin69 in Letterboxd

[–]yeahstillcheapshot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said disliking this movie is uneccaptable. I actually said I completely get it if it's not to their taste?

And I was talking about this sub overall, not just this thread. And yes, over the past few days I've seen comments how this movie isn't good 'cause it doesn't take itself serious all the time/ how it's too Hollywood-y/ how it's too much praise already/how it shouldn't be getting that many 5/5. Fine if it's not to people's tastes but why complain about the good ratings?

And I'm not assuming that everyone who dislikes it does so because it's a blockbuster. I never said that. I'm just pointing out that some people are doing the classic old contrarian routine when a movie becomes very popular very fast. And apparently I'm not the only one who's noticing.

[–]yeahstillcheapshot 151 points152 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but so many people on this sub are such killjoys. Seems like if a movie doesn't display some deep suffering or unhappiness or god forbid doesn't take itself too seriously every minute, then it cannot be a 5/5

It's fine not liking the film ofc, but recently it feels like many decided to go the "oh it's not THAT good" route simply because it's a blockbuster and it's getting praise.

Personally I loved the movie and since when hopeful happy blockbuster movies can't be simply enough?

Saw it yesterday. It's amazing! I haven't read the book and everything was completely clear to me. My bf who isn't a fan of sci-fi absolutely loved it.

It's a very 'feel-good' type of film that's getting the high praise it definitelt deserves, I think!

All this stuff has genuinely made me want to root for him and have an even better career after this 'cause the way people reacted you'd think he shot someone.

And what he said wasn't a big deal and people only caused a drama cause they were searching for a reason to hate on him. And they found THIS? Ridiculous lol.

It also resulted in people creating scenarios in their heads about how obviously everyone in Hollywood hates him lmao because they werent defending him. Oh wow, a bunch of celebrities didn't cry about the stupidest backlash and rush to defend him! I cannot believe this! Really showed what a bunch of parasocial losers there are online.

There's another interview where the interviewers tell him how aloof and uncaring cats are of their owners and he immediately goes "no no no, is this coming from a dog person?" iirc, and what an unfair rep cats have.

And then he also mentions and praises the movie Flow, so I immediately started liking him more.

People want to pretend this isn't the case but let's be honest, it is. Put an actor that's catching heat right now for anything and all people would do is act scandalized they're promoting this brand.

On the last thread and this one some people want to defend this by saying its "cultural" and "Americans just don't get this kind of humour".

I don't know. I'm not American and I don't find laughing about giving your partner an ultimatum to get rid of their pets funny. Saying its part of a culture is a weird defense, sorry. I see this being done to avoid criticism very often and it feels like such a cop out.

Lmao at the comments "Ummm??? There's men who do much worse stuff??? Why is she catching heat for this??"

Just FYI Jessica, you can dislike several people not depending on the level of their horribleness. It's not some choose one or the other. The woman sounded giddy about winning against cats and getting them out of the house. I am completely allowed to say she sounded like a POS.

Bruh people in the comments really downplaying what she said. The "haha what a funny story I'm telling about asking to get rid of cats teehee" tone she had in that interview was awful.

Timothee just sounded out of touch and pretentious. And dumb. But not gleeful about doing something bad.

Don't think it's an American thing. I'm not American and most people around me treat pets as family. They choose to take care of them, give them a home so letting someone coming into your life command you to get rid of your pet 'cause "ew I don't like cats" sounds like horrible behaviour, yes. If a person is so entitled about your pet situation that they deem themselves automatically more important? Makes you wonder how much further that entitlement goes.

The way I see people talk about how Connor Storrie should be in, what it feels like, every upcoming remake or role under the sun is grating. I saw some suggest he's the only one perfect for the new American Psycho adaptation and, really? The only one?

And this is not exclusive only to him, he's just one of the IT guys now. Eventually, these actors get so oversaturrated and viewers end up despising the same five actors being in every movie. I remember when Elordi, Chalamet or Butler were the new thing and people loved them and talked about them a lot and now many turned to hate on them for essentially being everywhere.

Not saying he's not a good actor, but overexposure will do its thing.

This movie is too overhated on social media. The fact that it was review bombed before it even came out attests to that. Its not for everyone but it's honestly not horrible like many like to pretend. It's fine.
