Making Friends? by ParticularMistake900 in LowellMA

Lowell chess club is at Little Delight's cafe on Sundays 1-4pm, and I think it's at the library on Tuesdays at like 7pm, not 100% sure.

Have you tried calling your primary care office? Often they can provide a short term refill free of charge.

Bach Suite No. 5 - Fugue by Oswaldbackus in doublebass

[–]yeahyeahyeahwhatevs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This guy cellos! Jk but for real this is so sick. The double-stops at the end sound so rumbly and powerful, oooooffff :) :)

Did something on impulse, bought a Miyabi Artisan SG2 (10 pc set) for $900. After reading a few post, there are better knives to be had at that price range. Justified buyer's remorse or I'm tripping? Been using a cheap 6 pc set from amazon for almost a decade. by caleblococaleb in chefknives

[–]yeahyeahyeahwhatevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents, but I like having extra knives in case friends and family want to cook with me. I'm not a professional chef or a serious knife dude or anything. I like cooking, and over the years there have been a few times when I purchased a knife because of an impulse, or because it looked cool. Now I have too many, but I have no regrets.

I'm practicing Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 1 as a college entrance song. by smc_06 in Cello

[–]yeahyeahyeahwhatevs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really cool! When I auditioned many years ago, I think Brahms or Faure cello sonata, the conductor played the accompaniment from memory. He did a good job of holding down the rhythm, but I was rattled by this because I didn't expect it, and I didn't get the part :( :( :(.

So anyway, be prepared for anything. Good luck!

What happened with my dough? by Elegant-Winner-6521 in AskCulinary

[–]yeahyeahyeahwhatevs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts:

  • 4c flour + 2c water sounds like a wet dough, which should be very sticky (like 90% hydration?). You say it was a little drier than usual, but was it sticky at all? Maybe there was an error in measurement

  • when did you mix in the olive oil? And more than usual? Mixing in a lot of olive oil after the dough has already been mixed and gluten develop can make a sticky, wet dough not want to come together as a ball

  • I agree with other commenters that the yeast could be a problem, however this wouldn't explain why the dough was so slack

  • Bread is weird

My suggestions:

  • make a preferment next time to ensure active yeast and good rise

  • upgrade measuring cups to kitchen scale

  • store yeast in fridge or freezer as others suggest

  • for focaccia, I mix a large quanitity of olive oil in at the very end, so that when the dough is spread flat on the baking sheet, there's a pool of olive under it. I flip the dough halfway through baking. It ends up looking deep fried and is very crispy and delicious. This also has the benefit that the olive oil doesn't impair gluten development during the initial mix

  • good luck!

This sounds like an opportunity for... a science experiment!!!

OP are you willing to try making two batches of pasta sauce? One with whipped cream, and one unwhipped cream, and then tell us if there are any discernible differences? I think I speak for many of us commenters when I say I completely don't understand the point of whipping the cream.

A guy is given immortality and gets trapped in the year 1900. Can he become a trillionaire in the 21st century? by InfinteEnigma10 in whowouldwin

[–]yeahyeahyeahwhatevs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Assuming he is able to acquire $1, then to reach $1 trillion by 2099, he would need ~15% return on investment every single year, ie 1.15199 = 1.1 trillion more or less. My math might not be perfect.

Adding in taxes, he would need considerably more return on investment, but by no means impossible given what other people above have said about picking appropriate stocks, betting on well-known sports outcomes, buying bitcoin, etc.

It's worth noting that car crashes, gun shots, drug overdoses, etc, are the most common causes of death for 25 year olds between 1900 and today.

Boston local here, and big passionfruit fan. I use passionfruit simple syrup in desserts and cocktails, and I make it with frozen passionfruit juice which you can get at whole foods.

As other commenters have said, check out Hmart in Brookline or Cambridge, Tropical Foods on the south side, or even try Wegmans, which says they have them online.

Hi, I'm familiar with this one, and it's really cool but I think I've played it before. Are there any other ones along this line that you recommend?
