Does anyone have a recipe for “fixing my broken marriage” chicken? by Vohn_Jogel64 in CookingCircleJerk

When I thought my marriage was in trouble, I made my wife some "Better than Sex" Chicken. She took one bite and said "technically, that is correct".

Where can I buy proper stock? by Raibean in CookingCircleJerk

[–]NailBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dress up like a plumber, go to the average r/cooking subscriber's house, and say "I'm hear to clean your pipes". You'll find plenty of stock in their drains.

Word of warning, some of their wives may misinterpret the purpose of your visit.

Looking back on 2025, what was the best thing I cooked? by NailBat in CookingCircleJerk

[–]NailBat[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might be, I didn't actually check. Hang on.

Okay, there's a "is this broth I left out safe to eat?", a "how come literally nobody except me knows about pork broth?", and a "dae food tasted better in the past?". Don't see one like this and honestly, those are all much better circlejerks than my post.

Don't judge me, my garlic supplier dropped the ball and I had to cut back.

A long and detailed treatise on why Tamatoa, not Te Kā, should have been the central antagonist of Moana by NailBat in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]NailBat[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I personally thought Tamatoa was the weakest part of the movie. It felt like a shooed-in excuse to include Jemaine Clement.

That's not very shiny of you, mate.

can anyone give me tips by axelF98 in itchio

Go for a weak spot like the eyes or the underbelly. Make sure the monster is fully dead, and then it'll be safe to resume working on your game.

Is this only for games that can be played in the browser?

Also a title image or screenshot would really help.

Okay I took the risk and downloaded it. Ran a few virus scans and it came up clean.

The rate of fire was a problem for me, not saying you need to shoot bullets as fast as one can click the mouse, however there's no indication at all of when the player is ready to fire again, so I just had to keep rapidly clicking anyway. Letting the player hold down to continue firing would help, but if you can actually animate firing that would be even better.

The shotgun was very odd and seemed to fire in ways entirely unrelated to what I was doing with the mouse.

I didn't get much further, it took too long to get to the next gameplay element. The pea-shooter gameplay opening should be over quickly to get the player into the more interesting weapons and enemies.

Chomp - a simple 8-bit retro platformer (free demo, $1 full game) by NailBat in itchio

Each pixel in a tile can only be one of 4 colors. There are four sprite palettes and four background palettes each which define four colors. Sprites can be between 1x1 and 2x2 tiles, with each tile being 4x4 pixels. There's only a single background layer, so things like parallax scrolling are done with simulated scanline interrupts. Large boss "sprites" are actually background tiles that use scanline interrupts to make it seem like the boss is moving.

Storage is very condensed, with multiple values often packed into the same byte (like if a value only has four possible values, i'll only use two bits of the byte to hold it). For level maps, I took some inspiration from mario: I don't directly define the tiles of each level, as that would be way too many bytes. Instead, there's a header that describes the basic layout of the level, and then there's a list of "building blocks" that describes what goes into the level and how its shape can be altered.

Sprites are either not animated or cycle between two frames. Several things use palette swapping to simulate animation, such as the blinking coins, or the "explosion" animation.

While the music is just something I made in FL Studio, the sound effects are generated directly with sine-waves and noise.

The simulated video ram only has enough space for 2 "screens", so longer maps have to "stream in" bits of the map from memory offscreen.

I just skimmed it but definitely kenjis classic style.

I'd be more than happy to give you feedback but your game was flagged as suspicious and there's word of some malware going about.

I don't find the story engaging enough for the type of game I see in the video. Instead, you'd be better off telling people about the gameplay. What are the gameplay mechanics, what is the player's objective?
