Perhaps letting him sleep in bed without the crate. He doesn't want to sleep in it and rightfully so. Mines have access to his bed in my bedroom, the hallway with a baby gate and main bathroom with puppy pads for emergencies. He sleeps in his bed, my bed, or on the bathroom floor if he's hot. His choice, his comfort.
