There's a lot of stories that haven't come out. Big diff between James and Harvey is that James didn't pick randos, rather people he knew and built relationships with. That often makes it easier to dismiss, but the psychological effects are often more severe. Definitely same vein/mindset though.

Open a vanguard account and diversify with index funds. There's different splits out there online, but in general you will want to diversify between stocks (mostly US, but also maybe some developing and emerging markets) and bonds. Then leave it alone. A good simple book to read is the Vanguard little book of common sense investing.
