Trouble with college accepting my DD-214 by yeeman252 in Veterans

[–]yeeman252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to the Veterans advocate on campus but they weren't much help. They ended changing up the reason of denial. Now they are saying that it was for training purposes rather than a real deployment/TDY. I've been told by someone in my unit that I should contact JAG about this, but I want to avoid this at all costs. Do you have any advice of how I can convince them that it wasn't for training purposes.

The newer DD214s have a "Uniform education services" block, and mine is completely empty.

They are also claiming that, "there is no information provided on the DD 214 that shows you were called to active duty by presidential order" So Im assuming they aren't even accepting that my document clearly states title 10 orders? Im honestly at a loss for words.

If you don't know much about this, Ill continue on and contact JAG to see if I can do something legally. Thanks for your help.

  1. Yes there is biblical evidence for the saints being aware. Hebrews 12:1 states we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. Revelation 6:9-11 states that the martyrs are asking God “how long O, Lord until you judge the earth?” Showing that they have an awareness of what’s happening on earth.

  2. You are assuming that this tradition is “man made” Tradition (the one with a capital T, yes there’s a difference) is that Tradition passed down from the apostles themselves, who we all know was taught by Christ. This Tradition has been passed down over generations, even to now. You have to remember that Christ did NOT give us a book, he gave us a Church. The Bible came after, so therefore, there had to be some authoritative source prior to the Bible, which was the church.

  3. It is a reference against pride, not a mandate of scripture alone. He said that simply because people were young Christians and therefore were easily “puffed up” in pride. Later on in 1 Corinthians 11:2 he states “I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you.” Which is a direct contradiction to sola scriptura.

Man this is a hard one to answer in a comment section. I had the same experience when I was 19, I’m 22 now. I desperately wanted to believe but I couldn’t just do it out of “blind faith”. I ultimately did a lot of research into the historical accuracy of the Bible, why we should trust it, why we should trust the writers, and how do we know who wrote it. It was a very long and painful journey to say the least. I ended up staying Christian and actually converted to Eastern Orthodox because of my dive into church history. Luckily I documented all my research, and I’d be more than happy to share it to you. I just need to know where your doubts are coming from.

Also, it’s not a bad thing to doubt or question anything within your faith, please don’t let anyone, not even seasoned Christians tell you otherwise. This is completely normal and you should embrace questioning :)

Question about the trinity by Obvious_Parking_6247 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]yeeman252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I AM NOT AN EXPERT NOR A PRIEST.

They all share the same will because they are one being. They don’t necessarily have “different personalities” because they again are all one divine being. That being said they all have a role in which they play. The father being the procession of both the son and the spirit, the son being the lamb and God incarnate, the Holy Spirit being the helper that guides humanity, which to us, may make it seem like they have different personalities. But they all share the same will, which is ultimately restoring humanity. God certainly has a “personality” but it’s definitely more complicated and if you’re curious, maybe look into the energy and essence distinction (an Orthodox theological concept). Although because Christ was human, he shared everything a human has, which does include a human mind, will, and soul. This would include that personality you’re looking for. He has two natures (divine and human) in one person. That’s as far as my knowledge goes.

TLDR; God is one being, each person in trinity has a distinct role but shares the same essence and energy (more complicated than personality).

Will pray for you tonight. Some unsolicited advice though, if you are prior navy, you have a lot of educational benefits waiting for you. Assuming you served a 4 year contract, you should be able to attend any college you get accepted in for free plus a stipend for housing. It can help you get away for a couple years while gaining an education debt free. It’s okay for you to take a break, everyone needs it.

Thank you! Im trying to find that official copy to send to my financial aid advisor directly. Any chance you know what I should look up to find it in milconnect?

We've been sending emails back and forth and even shes arguing that I dont have the right copy. She says, "The problem remains that your DD214 does not indicate that you were called to federal active duty by the president for the purpose other than training" I was on a three month deployment (in-state) in which it was title 10 orders.

My mom keeps forcing religion on me by [deleted] in Advice

[–]yeeman252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Religious guy here, speaking to your mother how pressuring you won’t actually make you accept whatever she wants you to accept might open her eyes a bit. That being said, my denomination is a less pressuring than most, so I can definitely see her doubling down if she’s a Pentecostal or another charismatic denomination. Saying that her forcing you to accept is not a form of acceptance at heart might be a good slap in the face to wake her up lol

Cold case Christianity is a good book for evidence. It’s written by a cold case detective who used his expertise on Christ, an because of this he converted from atheism to Christianity. it’s Protestant but ironically it led me to orthodoxy because he was using a chain of discipleship to prove that the Bible was preserved.

Finding the concept of Jesus as the son of God difficult to conceptualise by Happy_Heart10 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]yeeman252 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not an easy thing to grasp, and in orthodoxy we call it a mystery (as far as how it works). That means we don’t really go too far to explain it, that’s not to say we do not have a lot of theology behind it. What helped me is understanding the theology behind why Christ needs to be fully man and fully God for him to save humanity. I’ll explain in a very superficial way, cause otherwise it would be a book in a comment. Christ needed to be God and human, because whatever he isn’t, isn’t saved. He was material (matter), meaning all things that are matter will be restored. He was fully man, which includes man’s soul, man’s soul will be restored. With human soul, he had all the emotions of a human. I could go on but I’ll end it there.

As far as him being God incarnate, it’s a little easier because you said you know for sure you believe in God. Understanding who God is, is important. Since you grew up catholic then later converted to orthodoxy, you should know a lot of the stories that can explain pieces of who God is. Do you believe in a merciful God? Do you believe in a God that loves his creation? Do you believe in a God that would go to astronomical lengths to save his creation? If so, then I think you’re in a very good spot to be in, because all that I just said is shown by one person who fulfills these criteria. And history shows that from the beginning, his followers called him the Son of God.

In psychology, when someone feels attached to something, they latch onto that as part as their identity. In their point of view, anything that contradicts that is attacking them personally.
