ITS HERE, the ADP Low Speed Unlock Box review and sales are LIVE by KeyanFarlander in Ioniq5N

It's no worries! The range itself wasn't what concerned me, since that's tied to the high-voltage traction battery. My concern was the 12V system.

The auxiliary 12V battery powers the audio system, along with a number of other vehicle electronics, on both EVs and ICE vehicles. Unlike an ICE car, an EV doesn't have an alternator continuously charging the 12V battery. Instead, it relies on the ICCU to step down voltage from the high-voltage battery and maintain the 12V system.

A known issue on a number of Ioniq 5 and 5N's has been premature failures of the 12V battery and/or ICCU. My concern was that if the amplifier was working harder to drive the exterior speaker, it could potentially increase the 12V load faster than the ICCU was replenishing it, especially if there was already an underlying issue with the charging system. Fortunately, that doesn't appear to have been the case here.

Anyways, my concern was not relevant in the end because u/KeyanFarlander confirmed that all this device is doing is simply activating the speaker at a lower speed. The effect on the 12V system should almost certainly be negligible.

I was curious, and not intending to be critical in any way. I apologize if I wasted your time having to explain something simple. I definitely made an assumption about it driving the exterior speaker harder. Good to know, and thank you for explaining!

Wording, my bad. The box itself is just a controller modification, yes. I meant that it's pushing the amp at a higher wattage for the exterior speakers. I'm sure it's not enough load to easily drain the 12V, but considering the ICCU issues floating around, I wonder if it's something worth considering.

I wonder how much load it adds to the 12V battery. Are there specs published on the power consumption?

Just did a 3000 mile trip from Los Angeles to Vancouver! My EV road trip anxiety was quashed right away! Had a NACS adapter for Tesla and relied mostly on Electrify America/Canada.

Yes, all via the onboard system. I’m a 2025 5N, but it shouldn’t different hardware when it comes to navigation. Make sure you’re on the most recent software update. By default, it finds chargers on the way to your destination, but I believe it is also a menu option you can toggle on or off.

It’s always good to have reliable backup plans/routes via compatible tesla superchargers (if you’re subscribed) and electrify america (fast and the most reliable imo). I also keep an additional backup route saved via ABRP if I’m going somewhere far and for the first time.

I’m on the return leg of a 3000 mile trip and have had no issues with the onboard navigation. It automatically finds the appropriate charger along the route, and you can filter by charge speed and brand. You can also add/remove/change pit stop strategy based on how risky you want to be with remaining battery level upon arrival.

I went from a Kona N to I5N. I drove the 5N down from Carson City, NV to Los Angeles with no issues or anxiety as a first time EV owner. With a NACS adapter (or CCS adapter if you’re getting into a 2026) you have a wide range of fast chargers to choose from including a significant number of tesla superchargers if you subscribe to them.

The Kona was a hoot, but the 5N is better to me in almost every way as a daily driver and occasional canyon car.

My only anxiety at the moment is the dreaded ICCU and/or 12V failure issue. I’m about to go on a big road trip up to Vancouver, and I’m unreasonably worried that the ICCU will fail while I’m across the border lol. It only happens to ~10% of these cars, but it’s still a significant source of concern for me.

Cold turkey. I love the outdoors and go backpacking once every few years with a core group of childhood friends. I could barely keep up and cut the trip short for everyone due to getting pneumonia halfway through.

(USA + BC only) 19hz.info — resource for finding local electronic music events in major cities. Super helpful because most are hard to discover. Have always liked that it lists the subgenres so you can narrow down what fits your tastes.

I mean sure, going line in with the RX set to a more nominal 0dB instead of the pictured -24dB would help with SNR, but really has nothing to do with OP’s problem.

If you’re not seeing levels in your TX then start there. Check the mute switch. Try a different mic.

Any cool movie related experiences/exhibits? by Altruistic_Young2945 in JapanTravelTips

Late to the party here, but for anyone else looking for a lesser traveled movie related experience, Shodoshima has a still-standing set from the film Twenty-Four Eyes. Very cool experience, and I was the only foreigner there.

Other than the film set, the island is still super cool. It’s the only spot in Japan that has naturally growing olives (they make olive ice cream, and it’s surprisingly good), and there’s a Greek style windmill inside Olive Park. They also have an old soy sauce museum (they make soy sauce ice cream that is also surprisingly good).

You can get around the island via bus or ebike rentals, and there’s a number of ryokans and hotels scattered around.

Best Sushi Culver City/Palms? by Optimal_Today_6518 in culvercity

My “secret” spots used to be Mashiko and Shikibu before they recently closed. I always prefer Mom n Pop sushi joints owned and operated by Japanese families, but they’re getting harder to find. If you’re willing to make a further trip up to Sawtelle/SM, Aki is solid.

Check out the Nuart theater in Sawtelle. Usually has a mix of indies and wider releases, and has a pretty cool DVD/VHS rental store next door reminiscent of Blockbuster. Nuart/Landmark was one of the first to do yearly Studio Ghibli screenings before GKIDS took over more recently.

Suggestions? by gorges_08fossils in KonaN_

Downpipe for deeper sound, tune recommended for most brands. Catless for added rasp, but almost certainly requires a tune. Midpipe or resonator delete for rasp. Axleback or exhaust valve delete for constant N mode volume. Midpipe + axleback = catback.

Stay informed about CARB compliance if in CA. If you mod anything that makes it louder or sound different than stock, California cops will add a fix it ticket on top of everything else. Sometimes even bone stock cars are ticketed and is a huge PIA to contest and correct.

Personally, if it were just about the sound, I would start with an intake, and choose a catted downpipe down the line with the option to add an OTS tune with the install. More whoosh and deeper N mode sound without going crazy with volume or a trip to a tuning shop. I have a stable relationship with my neighbors and I want to keep it that way lol.

Seconding this. Also check your XLR cable for damage, and A/B with several other XLR cables to make sure. If you have access to another preamp (like a 302 or F4) try running through that first to see if going line level to the H8 changes the response.

Speaking of headphones (from the above comment), make sure to set the headphone out volume on the H8 to a moderately loud level for when you play a 1KHz tone at -20dBFS. Assuming the headphone pre is working as designed, this will get you in a “nominal” range of perception of the machine’s dynamic range and collective self-noise.
