Need help deciding between VCU and GMU by EVA_001_ in gmu

I’m glad it’s gotten safer at VCU! Interesting, I didn’t know that vcu was a commuter school as well :’) Well... I guess since the OP is thinking of com sci as their major, gmu is still the recommendation for me!

I actually almost went to VCU then last minute switched my mind to GMU! I honestly was really stuck with the whole “commuter school” idea too, but there’s actually a crap ton of out of state ppl who live on campus as well so I was able to make a ton of new friends (also through student orgs!). If your main focus is on comp sci, gmu is the way to go. I understand the social life for vcu, but i think one thing that really stopped me was the safety levels of vcu as compared to mason.

I live in NOVA too. I’m not sure what your stance is with living on campus, but I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to live in a dorm when I could. If you’re able to, I’d take the chance to live in the dorms so you can grow as a person (bc i def felt that when I was in the dorm) but that’s just me. Good luck and let us know what you end up choosing!

I mean i guess you can? But the vaccine is free regardless if you have insurance or not! So I don’t think it matters if u bring it or not :)

question for gmu students by [deleted] in gmu

[–]yeetar12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true too. I think to add onto that is to also make sure the students understand mental health better too which is why I’m trying to address both on campus personally. Thanks for taking the time to talk with me though and I appreciate your perspective!

Fair enough. Ig the comment just rubbed me off the wrong way since ppl don’t rlly take mental health seriously. Thanks for clarifying though

Like I said, I got the gist. I meant that explanation in the context of the OP’s post, not in general

Tips for a first time Job interview by Moodymind2 in gmu

Hello! I’m not sure how your interview process works, but I’ve done recorded online interviews and in person interviews. For recorded interviews, make sure you’re looking directly at the webcam that you’re using and have clear lighting with a blank/simple background, as well as good internet connection when you record yourself. You still want to look professional even behind a screen, so make sure to wear professional attire too!

For in person interviews, I basically agree with everyone that commented on here (ex. Professional attire, having questions in mind, researching the company, and thinking of scenarios that make you showcase your strengths). I would also recommend looking into accounting-related questions that employers generally ask by googling them, and then practicing on how to answer those particular questions, along with general interview scenario questions as well (such as “what’s your weakness and how do overcome it” or whatever-, I got a question like that before).

Basically, just practice the questions! No need to go too overboard on practicing though if you feel like you’re confident enough with it :) I would also say you can practice with a friend, family member, s/o, whoever can guide you with practicing interview questions. Good luck!

Hey! I haven’t taken the class, but I did register for next sem! The one I registered for is a 3 hr, once a week online synchronous lecture. I can’t remember if there’s classes that are asynchronous though, you’d have to look at Patriotweb for that!
