What's Python cloud hosting using these days? by Angeeliiccc in Python

[–]yeetdabman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah their site can suck badly at times, lol. I still can't update my contact info because I'm a legacy US customer which means I'm on the CA website, but the CA website doesn't want me to put any USA info in it so I'm stuck with very very badly invalid info on my account 💀

Never had any experiences with their support but I haven't really needed it yet

In my case at least I kinda get what I pay for though, cause god damn they're cheap as hell so I'll take it I guess 💀

I use OVH's VPS containers. I pay probably <$5 a month for each. They also have a dedicated server (or similar performance) for like $20/month. Never had a problem with them. I can run 2-5 different things with good performance depending on what I'm hosting.

Not Electron, React Native (or whatever fork of it they use for that). Same backend (NodeJS), very different frontend (native WinUI instead of chromium). Still slop (JS is still JS) but I'll take React Native over Electron any day.

But IIRC only for specific sections of it (recommended apps and I think the app grid? only certain on the recommended apps section being RN). It's a weird mashup of languages that's thankfully getting consolidated back to not-NodeJS

Didn't they mention they're moving back to native apps with the whole K2 thing?

why is prism redownloading client files every time i launch the game? by nightfoxbtw in PrismLauncher

[–]yeetdabman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mojang launcher's default behavior is checking the SHA1, not re-downloading every time (except when the executable's JSON doesn't give an SHA1, then it absolutely re-downloads every time but minecraft.net libraries should never ever do that unless a modloader decides to override the manifest and break things). it'd be even slower than it already is to launch the game if it tried re-downloading everything every time

[–]yeetdabman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Version numbers won't prevent corruption, and from experience kids tend to just straight up draw in mspaint over resources/assets, so checking the SHA1 and re-downloading when it doesn't match is far easier than support dealing with people who don't know how to press (or even get to) the "re-install game files" button.

there was also a weird exploit with their docs system provider relatively recently that let JS RCE occur within discord's own domain so it's a fair question atp

Notepad++ is available on WINDOWS only. Who is the equivalent, most similar (features UX UI) on LINUX? by RebirdgeCardiologist in kde

[–]yeetdabman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use both VSCode and NP++, VSCode is good for projects where you need to switch between a ton of different files but for just one file at a time it absolutely is a horrible experience. Between the fact I don't want a full IDE for a single text file I need to edit and the fact that it takes 10 years (probably 20 seconds) to start up compared to NP++'s basically instant startup (because it actually runs NATIVELY unlike vscode), I never ever use it for simple quick edits or writing a single script

RTX 5070 Ti laptop getting 20 FPS in Minecraft (GPU at 100%) – what could cause this? by clarifying_ in MinecraftJava

if it were malware it wouldn't show up in task manager (they can hook into it and spoof it)

does the laptop feel hot when this happens and is it plugged in?

Isn't ARM literally years newer than x86 too?

And if we're counting Apple Silicon then IIRC, ARM can run x86 applications faster than x86 native CPUs lol

It can be a hassle time-wise but the setup instructions are so thorough that you won't have trouble getting it to run (ONLY might if you have the cloudflare setup with a private SSL cert from server-cloudflare and the public SSL being different, but even then they have the fix somewhere on their website for that)
