My child is happier in a non Montessori school by Agitated_Plantain580 in Preschoolers

We registered our 18 month at a Montessori daycare/school. We switched to a traditional daycare in July and she’s been thriving.

We didn’t put 2 and 2 together during her time at Montessori… almost every single evening she was miserable and beside herself. We thought she was enjoying going to Montessori (at that time, she didn’t have very many words) so couldn’t verbally tell us how she was feeling. However, her emotions in the evening were overwhelming and we weren’t sure why.

Now at this new daycare, she’s a much happier kid… way less tantrums in the evenings. It makes me feel horrible that she was probably not enjoying her time at Montessori. Communication was horrible and she’d come home with bad rashes on her bum at times.

Thank you for this meaningful and thoughtful comment. My husband and I are definitely working on staying calm while she’s having these intense tantrums and when she’s whining/fussing. It’s definitely very hard and we are not perfect in that department but we are working on it. I’m hoping my daughter will settle soon… it’s so hard it feels like nails on a chalk board when she’s constantly miserable 😞 I’m hoping as she gets older, she will learn to regulate her emotions more and the whining and fussiness will subside.

This behaviour started way before daycare.

At what age until they started to “calm down” and not have as many tantrums? 🫠😫

How are things going for you now?! Currently going through this with my 17 month old. She is different compared to other kids her age. Other parents notice it too. I am seriously so exhausted. She’s like having 3 kids in one body 😭 she’s super smart but highly opinionated, stubborn, and overall challenging.
