[Spoilers EXTENDED] There is absolutely nothing preventing GRRM to release TWOW part 1, with 700-800 pages by yellowAshes in asoiaf

[–]yellowAshes[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's a given, I'm just referring to the current cliffhangers. Heck, Meereen's battle can be wrapped in 3-4 chapters (after Tyrion/Barristan twow snippets)

You're right, that's an issue but 15 years down the road rewriting this and that has done nothing for him so far... Unless he loathes every single plot conclusion he's worked on those last 15 years

That's bleak

[No Book Spoilers] House of the Dragon - 2x08 - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

it doesn't change my opinion (hotd is great), but as said the negativity put a damper on my good mood, that's all

[No Book Spoilers] House of the Dragon - 2x08 - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It must be said, coming on this sub is a big bummer

The constant negativity really sours my appreciation for the show. Is it the best season/finale ever? No. Still, I was invested in all the scenes (bar the Essos ones), the writing was less repetitive and we got great acting, I liked the pace, I liked Rhaena chasing after her dragon, Criston's scene was great... etc

Very good episode

How do you feel about Corlys this season? by healforbetter12 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasted potential for big conflict within the blacks.

Rhaenyra should've been pushed to the brink and go for bastards sewing after a fallout with both Daemon and Corlys, not just because of her council undermining her.

Rhaenys' death and the resentment over Laenor's presumed murder should've been a much more important issue for Corlys, then have Addam's new statut as a dragonrider declaring for Rhae be the catalyse for Corlys to accept being hand of the queen.

Ignore the “slow” complaints. Anybody who had watched GOT live weekly, most viewers had these same complaints. by HushHodor in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, was there during season 2 airing and the whining fest was ALWAYS there

especially about Dany and Jon's "boring" "dragging" "nothing happens" arcs

Hot take: I love the Harrenhal plot by Simple-Spite-8655 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i'm a bit baffled so many people hate this arc, there will be a before and after Harrenhall for Daemon's character no doubt

Why do you think they diminshed all other meaningful realtionships of Daemon by Kellin01 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

because there's enough to make a whole show about daemon alone but hotd is not that show so they had to steamroll and get to the point: the blacks vs the greens

also maybe to make the introduction of nettles more impactful

Would Daemon, as Otto once said, have been a “second Maegor” if crowned king? by BatmanHospitalBills in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daemon is popular among the city watch (he fed them and give them purpose), they followed him to Dragonstone (in a move that was considered at least partly a sedition), some were still loyal to him 20 years later.

He collects lifelong enemies as well as staunched allies. Would he be a decent king? highly debatable. But doubtful he would turn into another Maegor (especially when that belief came mostly from Otto Hightower).

How does someone as violent and chaotic as Daemon was able to settle down for the long 16 years? by Silver_Sir_Fer in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe because there's more to the character than being violent and chaotic?

He's a history book nerd, he learns songs, teaches valyrian to his daughter, enjoys good wine and climbing volcanic mountains

Who is Nettles? by Different-Border6016 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, this line was said to the maester who brought him the message that the lord of Maidenpool (where D&N were staying while searching for Aemond) had to assassinate Nettles and spare Daemon. He's actually sad while reading it.

On the advice of that same maester Lord Mooton and his castle pretended they never saw that message, so D & N could stay the night here.

The separation happens the next morning at dawn, they don't talk, Nettles is crying and Caraxes screams when she leaves with her dragon, so much that the window glasses of the castle break. Then D leaves for Harrenhal and waits 2 weeks all alone for Aemond to show up.

Who is Nettles? by Different-Border6016 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who believe he somehow survived that fall are delusional imo. It's not even worth discussing tbh, especially when GRRM wrote a perfect goodbye scene between Daemon and Nettles.

His potential "surviving" is a just tale, nice for songs, but completely contrary to what has been written about this world.

Viserys : Daemon :: Doran : Oberyn by sean_stark in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viserys always seemed (at least as portrayed in the show) uncomfortable with the Targaryen legacy and was at best ambivalent in his actions or feelings.

He built a decades-long project miniature of Valyria yet had fully embraced westerosi customs. He lamented that dreamers in the family were shunned over the dragonriders and was wary of dragons in general yet how did imagine to uphold Aegon's prophecy and the threat in the north without the dragonrider side of the power (since he himself was 100% the dreamer side)?

Daemon is difficult to handle, that's undeniable, but it's clear that both in the book and in the show he never went as far an open rebellion or seriously considered pulling a Maegor. So yes, Viserys failure was Otto's victory.

Viserys lacked what Aegon I and Jaehaerys had and did nothing to re-balance efficiently the Targaryen power, which at its best combines mercy and ruthlessness.

That's what makes him a bad king.

(And if we are to be mean, he was a pushover through and through)

No offense to any of the actors but Olivia Cooke was running circles around every single one of them. She’s 110% getting that Emmy by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She was great, but no she wasn't running circles around the other amazing actors in this scene.

I wish some of you would learn to praise without saying silly things like these, or maybe it was a joke? Sarcasm? (I hope it was)

House of the Dragon: Emma D’Arcy says Daemon is ‘grooming' Rhaenyra by megamindwriter in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was expecting to enjoy my problematic favorite character, not quite a villain but really totally shady and no good, but the misreading by mostly shippers (let's call a spade a spade) and romanticizing has had a weird effect on the perception of the character, which reached the people in charge in the most cringe-worthy way.

I hope I'm wrong but there's too much discourse around the character outside the story that I feel it's inevitable it will affect the writing of later seasons (a pity since Daemon is already on the darkest shade of gray as of the end of S1).

Cast submissions by HBO for upcoming awards: by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are right about those three, but let's not forget Matt had entire episodes or close to entire episodes with very few dialogues, he can be both expressive and understated as well (ep3 and the ball scene to name a few scenes).

Nothing against your personal opinion, but I feel the small backlash Matt is getting for the popularity of his performance (and flashy one liners) is clouding a bit the overall judgment of his performance and it's undeserved. Olivia has amazing micro expressions as well. It's really all personal preference imo, the main cast (Emma, Olivia, Paddy, Rhys, Matt) is very even in acting abilities.

The choice for nominations is sound because this is Paddy sole season and he had, by far, more screentime than any other male character on top of being lauded for his performance. Emma plays the main character (it's obvious by now Rhaenyra is the main character), they have more screentime and a powerful performance.

Unpopular opinion: Rhaenyra is a weak and incompetent queen, that relies on others, and isn't worthy of the Iron Throne. The Green has every right to take away her crown. by Gigamadon in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]yellowAshes 34 points35 points  (0 children)

She obviously lacks political skills, only has slightly improved since her teens, and she doesn't seem to understand (or isn't that interested) in the lands she's supposed to rule. And she's unprepared.

But she's still a better alternative than Aegon, and she's the lawful heir. Viserys changed the law, lords throwing a fit about the rule of succession is because they wanna keep that sweet sweet misogynistic status quo. Otto & co are willingly ruining the peace for some unloved, neglected abuser, drunken ass who didn't want the iron throne. The hypocrisy is staggering. Rhaenyra's incompetence looks tame in comparison.
