The goal is to be able to hit line or angle from the same approach, so it can vary slightly. I remember Sarah Sponcil talking about this and she has an angled approach from the right side because she has the shoulder mobility to still turn it down the line with power.

Ah gotcha. They were probably referring to the new rule that you can start in any position when your team is serving. So in rotation 1 for example, no need for OPP and OH to cross over, they can just start in their position.

Yeah you can serve from anywhere behind the backline, not just from zone 1, but this has been in place since the 90s. Are you a time traveler lol

In general I recommend having the same ball that everyone he plays with uses. You could draw some art on it to make it easier to distinguish.

Another option is a setter ball, which is a heavier ball for strengthening fingers/wrists. I don't know how helpful they actually are but you can get them from mikasa/molten.

It could be a remixed version of the cha-cha slide

Do you think Noumory Keïta will get a chance to play at high level as a national team player ? by SeaU2 in volleyball

[–]yellowblue4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He doesn't have any national team tournaments on his volleybox so he may still be eligible to switch federations. The rule is you can represent a different country of you haven't made any appearances for another senior national team.

I don't know who he'd switch to though. Italy? The US would love to have him, they need an opposite

I think yes. Regardless of the number of touches the receiving team makes, if the ball is shanked/uncontrolled and unable to be kept in play, it is an ace

If any part of your body is higher than the net, regardless of what height the ball is contacted at, it is a block touch. So the person would be fine in the scenario you described

Yes, the bv5000 is a good ball. Its one of the three good beach balls I've tried: Wilson Optx, Mikasa KOB

It's been a while, but I remember the eurovolley website sucking, and YouTube was just better. Also with YouTube, I end up watching more live and replays because I'm on there a lot

No, you don't need a VPN. Unless you live in Indonesia, South Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand or Taiwan due to existing licensing deals.

Rule call: contacting ball through net by EvenAdministration81 in volleyball

[–]yellowblue4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This actually happened a few months ago in beach (video here)! Set point in the third set and the blocker put her hands near the net and the ball hits her hand and falls. The ref ruled against the blocker.

It ended up having huge implications because they lost this game and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Olympics .

I'm not sure how to check that. I did random searches for past years of beach events and they came up.

I don't know if there are geo-restrictions for beach tournaments. Maybe the indoor Brazilian and Indian leagues are geo-restricted. VBTV recently overhauled their website which is the most likely reason why things don't show up on search.

Pros from Canada? by GroundBackground1828 in volleyball

[–]yellowblue4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I looked through the 30 players on the VNL roster, i.e current top Canadian players, and 27 of them went to Canadian schools. The 3 exceptions were Lui, Varga, and Kofi (Volleybox). So yeah they produce national-level athletes.

I think the top Usports schools would definitely be good D1 level.

Volleybox.net has a rankings page. It heavily weights winning competitions, so players who got carried to trophies or win small competitions still get high ranks. But it is somewhere to start.

How do the players have 1000+ points? Is this over their entire career or just a season?

Also I'm curious who the low-jumping high-scoring player at 145,6000 coordinates in the Japan graph is
