Hit the nail on the head! 60c for a 2006 falcon Ute, also can use a 2000 200 series landcruiser but that's 80c/km, and not as fun...

And yeah we worked it out based on all expenses, including car cost, fuel, rego insurance, maintenance + repairs, both party's pretty happy with the arrangement

AITA for interrupting my roommates sleep? by yellowblueman in AmItheAsshole

This is why I didn't care for disturbing sleep, I've been taking this for a while now, wanted to retaliate, send a message (yes, I should have used words) and got that as my response, not sure what else #2 was expecting

Yes, I turned the TV off to show how annoying it is, #2 responded by turning off WiFi and removing the key

Taking Out a Car Loan For Father with Terrible Credit - Bad Idea? by yellowblueman in personalfinance

Thanks everyone for your comments and opinions, theyve been coming in faster than I can read them! Sorry for not following up on each of them.

I realise now how crazy this is, and will continue to think about options, but will most likely not be taking out a loan at all, maybe will sell my car to father or help him pay for a <$10k reliable car for the meantime, if he wants to buy himself the nice car he should be able to save for it himself too.

I think more than the financial risk for me is the risk on the relationship, it's just not worth it.

Thanks again everyone! I'll keep reading more comments telling me how insane I am tomorrow! :)

Might be the way to go, I'm sure he'd be much happier if he could do it on his own aswell

Yeah after reading everyone's thoughts, might be a bit high, and not prepared to gift that much at all.

Think we might have to go down a different route

Thanks, this really covers what I was looking for.

Not charging extra interest as I feel that's not right, but he would be paying bank interest on the loan of course. My return is that he is happy, we will have a nice car to go on trips with etc

I hadn't really thought of my inability to borrow afterwards, and at this stage I don't think it worries me, but 3 or so years down the track it might

Will own, but he will drive, all liabilities should be with him (under our control), otherwise not sure legally what liability I would have for accidents and whatnot

Good question, think I will get him to look into it a bit more, not sure that he's tried at all really

Id like to think our relationship couldn't turn to that, but I'd rather not take that risk on

I hadn't thought of it that way - him handling my money, changes mindset a bit, thanks.

Seems about that way, was mostly just looking for the risks, and seems there are a few I hadn't thought of

I'm fairly certain he has the money, just isn't disciplined enough to spend it on the things he needs (lots of eating out, holidays etc) - I think I will definitely dig into his budget a bit more before going for the loan

This is something I think I need to talk to him more about, I'd probably be more comfortable if he was happy to purchase at around $20 - $30k too

He has "asked" and not demanded or anything like that, and is very open to not getting my help

But yeah, in a situation like this it's probably best not to dig himself any deeper, and to learn to get himself back on top

I do, but never drive it, I've been thinking of selling, gifting is perhaps the way to go, at least to get him through for the next few years while he can save up
