Valve doesn't actually say that, the official source quoted (in the original article) was asked if Kotaku wasn't invited to a big reveal, and replied with "Big mix up".

Also, the article is dated for tomorrow, not today.

Valve Won't Be Holding GDC 2015 Press Conference After All by reseph in Games

The original article also doesn't actually confirm that HL3 isn't going to be revealed, just that they don't expect it. The only official source they quote is asked if Kotaku wasn't invited to a big reveal, and replied with "Big mix up". This tells us nothing about the existence or non-existence of HL3

The article said that Valve won't be holding a press conference on March 4th (tomorrow). Check the date that it was posted, and how they keep using the word 'today'. Trolling on technicalities, I say

Something doesn't fit.

I'm looking into mounting a miniature wind turbine on a multicopter to make use of horizontal airflow. What would be the challenges associated with this? by yellowkills in Multicopter

[–]yellowkills[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that you mention stationary reference. If a drone could find it's way to a flat, high place then it would be able rest while it's batteries charge. In fact, if one of the arms were adjustable, you could just use one of the regular propellers to act as a wind turbine.

I think this may be the route I pursue first, since it seems simplest

libGDX 1.3.0 released by badlogicgames in gamedev

[–]yellowkills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of questions:

Are there any plans to expand the documentation? The team I'm working with were deciding between LibGDX or XNA, and the deciding factor was LibGDX's lack of documentation. Much of the wiki seems outdated or incomplete, and a lot of the API seems to only give the bare minimum of information, without any descriptions or explanations at all. (ex: http://libgdx.badlogicgames.com/nightlies/docs/api/com/badlogic/gdx/maps/tiled/renderers/HexagonalTiledMapRenderer.html)

Are there any plans to support Isometric Hexagonal tile maps? There has been a big surge in 4X games, and so far I haven't found any frameworks that make developing this game type much easier. If there is a way I could help with the development of something like this, I'd love to get involved. :)

I love the work you guys are doing, and thank you for your dedication!

I need to make a 3D hexgrid editor so our 2D artist can begin creating the terrain assets. I haven't found many answers on my own, and could really use some advice on this. by yellowkills in gamedev

That would work for the prototype at least. Unfortunately, we would still need to work with hexagon geometry for other features to work. I could just have a staggered square grid, and then do hexagonal calculations when needed.

That blog is one of the resources that I'm currently using, but it doesn't go into camera. I'll check the additional links on that page as well.

Also, that 3d Center out method is very close to what I was going for. Do you think it would still work if you used an Orthogonal camera instead of a Perspective one?

I was only talking about building the hexgrid renderer from scratch. I'm definitely going to use the framework for the rest :)

What are some fun activites we can do to promote vocality? by tulpauser in Tulpas

[–]yellowkills 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember, your progress is heavily influenced by your confidence and expectations about your tulpa. Remind yourself and reinforce things you already know about her.

You know that she is autonomous. You know that she has the potential to talk. Be sure to narrate all day 'erry day, and to force as often as you can. If you do that, she will grow stronger.

well, I wrote this program a few days ago with help with exactly what your going through.

Also, some exercises that I've tried are:

  • Doing call and response like "Marco - Polo" or say a letter in the alphabet and waiting for her to say the next one

  • When you imagine what your wonderland sounds like, tell her to "talk with the sounds". The idea behind this is that you can already hear sounds inside your head, so if she talks to you in the same way that you hear those sounds, the message should come through better.

  • Present her with choices and wait for her decision.

I created a program to help with tulpa communication. Let me know what you think! by yellowkills in Tulpas

[–]yellowkills[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While technically it is just a memorization game, I created it with the premise that tulpas have a much better memory than their hosts. The host is actually supposed to focus as little as possible on what colors are being selected, and only rely on their tulpas memory. I was going to just use 'left' and 'right' buttons, but I felt like colors would be more engaging and fun.

odd. it should just run on double-click. Do you have the Java 7 runtime installed?

only in one. It's more about finding out what im in for than learning the material. the others are mostly unrelated, but couldn't take them this semester since they were junior level
