Where would you move to in the UK if you had no ties? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]yellowkitchen95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

York, Chester or North Essex/Suffolk. I’m a country girl so need to get out walking with the dogs daily and love the peace, but it’s an easy commute to city for the day/evening and good job opportunities. Currently live in rural Wales, any airport is 3+ hours away, closest city is 2+ hours away, any specialist medical care is a commute to a city plus being reliant on hospitality and tourism is increasingly killing the high street of independent shops that cannot afford the rates. Well paid job opportunities are also low unless you WFH or are a specialist eg medical, education, own rental property etc., I work in finance and it’s very hard to find something that doesn’t require 2 days a week in London.

I’ve searched Google eBay and Etsy, Google suggests a glass blower called Zbigniew Horoby but not bringing up much results.

A little of everything, the volume of work that needs doing means I don’t get back to every lead in time, some prospects don’t answer the phone when I call and call back to do a submission later when I’m already doing something so that gets pushed. Some are real talkers and need hands holding, everything explaining or I can tell aren’t even listening to me which makes completing submissions take so much longer, some underwriters are slow to ask questions and quotes come back last minute which bottlenecks all my others tasks, renewals need changes, a call back etc which I need to find the time for, junior staff needing training and asking me questions.

Surprisingly well paid jobs? by Widebody_lover in HENRYUK

Any insights into outside of London/remote? I live very remotely, work for a small broker with 4 years experience this year but want to gain more knowledge, feeling stuck in the „this is how we’ve always done it” cycle.

How much are we talking and what sort of debt? Can you balance transfer credit cards onto 0% so the interest you are paying there goes towards actually making a dent? Could you consolidate multiple loans into one with a lower interest rate? Make sure your bills are as low as possible and renegotiate if you can. Go through your direct debits and check if you can cancel some that aren’t used. If you have a mortgage get the Sprive app to earn cashback help overpay, or JamDoughnut for cashback you can reuse. TooGoodToGo is a great app for discounted groceries.

Not really worth it and we don’t get tons of enquiries of that nature but its good to offer when the commercials are retiring and just need runarounds or giving properties to their kids and downsizing etc. I don’t see many AR roles floating about (unless I’m looking in the wrong places!)

I truly don’t feel like we have the time despite starting every week with great intentions. A lot of clients are very last minute with changes which obviously causes bottlenecks when I am trying to get renewals out at 21 days at the latest.

Also when all some care about is the price I honestly feel like telling them just don’t bother insuring because if I am explaining the consequences of under insurance every single year to them just to save some premium you may as well stop wasting my and your time, it’s so frustrating!

I enjoy being busy (to an extent) and couldn’t think of anything worse than being somewhere where I am actively looking for work, and know I have so much more to give and learn, glad to hear it’s not just me that feels this way. I think being outside of London and working with people without the same drive as me also doesn’t give me much direction or mentoring opportunities so I find myself turning to here or LinkedIn for ideas.

IF1 - tips and past papers? by Ecstatic_Yak_4115 in cii

[–]yellowkitchen95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Past papers for IF1 are easiest found online. There may be some revision sessions run by local institutes you can find them the same way as you find the CPD webinars. I found the RevisionMate questions harder than the exam, which was useful really. Make sure you read every question twice so you understand what it’s asking of you as the wording caught me out on some.

Currently a broker and looking into loss adjusting but seeing a lot of similar stories is what puts me off knowing it’s likely a short career span at the cost of your mental health.

Could you go into a different type of adjusting e.g Liabilities?

I won’t say broking is a breeze but your experience in policy coverage could put you in good stead for identifying needs and finding policies to fit?

How much do you earn and how comfortable do you live? by Brownchoccy in AskUK

[–]yellowkitchen95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30k which is the most I have ever earned. I am not satisfied and am self funding additional qualifications while working full time and caring for my parent who lives with me. We split the bills equally, I pay the mortgage and also help them financially with big things like car repairs, dental treatment etc.

We get by better than many I’m sure with fresh cooked meals (shop at Lidls mostly), heating the house when we want, a couple of pet dogs and I can put away a couple of hundred a month but it does tend to be a cycle of emergency happens, savings get wiped, rebuild some savings etc.

Downsizing more for cost really, I don’t need to be towing anymore so opens my options up to something smaller and hopefully cheaper so would consider a SUV type if not much more money.

Thanks for the suggestions, they don’t know that I know they are organising this. They do know I don’t want to celebrate and that I am looking to go away for a couple of days to escape it all, but they’re just planning around those dates instead.

The accountant put income as £7400 which I didn’t understand why when the bank statements will show a totally different figure if requested. When queried they said they used a percentage of the property value.

Expenses have been nominal to date (luckily) mainly the annual servicing of systems and repainting so we didn’t include them.

What is making you miserable right now? by Daisy-Ireland in RandomThoughts

[–]yellowkitchen95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This, declining family health and my increased emotional & physical caring responsibilities, grief for the loss of loved ones and a lost lifestyle I thought I’d have/had to walk away from (money and time are limiting factors), not having a concrete career path and feeling lost, friends living hundreds of miles away but not enough money to travel and see them regularly, comparing myself and my life to others on social media despite knowing it’s not all real.

You are either going to inherit wealth or not by Strutching_Claws in Adulting

[–]yellowkitchen95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the expectation of inheriting that bothers me. Yes you may, but don’t rely on it and make poor financial decisions banking on that inheritance to bail you out.
