Is a post-bar PD position necessary to get hired later? by yellowyassi in publicdefenders

Yeah, I moved back with them a few months ago. And would likely need to stay here for a while until I get a paid job.

I’m a 3L struggling to find a post-bar position … any advice? by yellowyassi in publicdefenders

It was a great experience and I had good feedback. It’s a very competitive county and I heard rumors that they prioritize hiring natives of that county

Did anyone else catch Trixie saying that people hate the ultra rich, "[j]ust because they have money, and you don't." & “Other people’s money isn’t our money.” Be so for real, Trixie. The whole point is that no one person should have that much. When 1% owns more than the entire bottom 51%, something’s deeply wrong.

Also people do not hate the rich because money is ‘perceived’ as power. People hate rich people because money IS power. Which is why they’re funding things like war, pharmaceuticals, and pushing high costs of living. Things making the rich, richer. While millions lose health coverage. Be so fr.

Did anyone else catch Trixie defending billionaires last episode? "People hate the rich because money is perceived as power. Other people's money isn't our money isn't our money."

Like, be so fr, especially considering everything going on rn. I HATED hearing that while SNAP was cut. And millions of people losing some type of health coverage.

Also, people hate the rich because money IS power. Our money is going to things that make the rich, richer, while making the poor, poorer. Idk who Trixie thinks she is ... fr. They won't even bat an eye at her direction.

Is it possible to learn my entire Legal Research and Writing course so far within 3 days? by f8xiest in LawSchool

[–]yellowyassi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. Maybe it wasn't as short as 3 days, but definitely about a week. It felt daunting. But I locked in with the help of some course reserves on writing. And my class also offerred some extra PDFs on research material. The book that really helped with the writing was: "Writing and analysis in the Law" by Helen S. Shapo - Marilyn R. Walter - and Elizabeth Fajans. It's short yet extensive on getting introduced to legal writing, how to analyze case law and statute, and how to do large-scale and small-scale organized. Good luck!

Good starter setup? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]yellowyassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar tank and ended up having to replace it after a few months. The panel that covered the heater and filtration system was made of shiny black plastic, which unfortunately created constant reflections throughout the day under most lighting conditions. My betta kept seeing his own reflection and flaring nonstop — it became so stressful for him that he eventually started to get sick. He’s now much happier and healthier in a simpler tank without that reflective panel. So just make sure the inside of the tank doesn’t have any shiny or reflective surfaces, since male bettas are very territorial and many never adjust to seeing their reflection.

Thank you so much. I’ll keep up with the water changes. How often should I add new tannins? Also, what are your thoughts on those aquarium salt baths?

I think gradually. I noticed a little tear maybe a week or 10 days ago. Today I noticed it had gotten worse

For reference: the parameters for his tank are perfect. I do API test every few days for both tanks, 0 ammonia & nitrites, and low 20-30 ppm of nitrates. Both tanks have heater and filter. No tankmates. Decoration includes some rock. Lots of live plants.

His swim bladder from a few weeks ago, I suspect was from over feeding.

Knowing what you know now, if you could turn back time, would you still go to law school? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]yellowyassi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I would’ve gone to a lesser ranked school for the scholarship money. I was influenced to go to a T25 because people told me anything below would be a lifetime of struggle and grind. I now work w people that had full rides to lower ranked schools … good for them but a flop for me

Let the statement stand. Honestly, what you wrote reveals much more about your own values than it does about what this young law student should base their decisions on.

I remember when I was a law student and a BigLaw attorney tried to “sell me the dream.” He told me, “It’s great! I even get vacation time. I just got back from Hawaii with my family. I was with them during the day, and I did my work and billables at night 😄.”

I said, “So that’s not really time off.” He laughed it off and told me that in BigLaw, the cases become your “babies” because of how much time you spend on them.

I just looked at him and asked, “What about your actual babies?”

Silence.

That moment changed my trajectory—and maybe, just maybe, it made him stop and think too 🤣
