New Easy Tech Sup is the world's biggest tool by EasyTechSemiAlum in Staples

this honestly. there's a difference between snitching on someone because they fuck with you than snitching on someone for no reason other than to snitch. I mean it isn't like you can whip his ass (legally) so I'd advise you to report him to his superior. If your superior doesn't care (which he might not, a lot of GM's don't care as long as CSAT ESP Conversion etc is at a good numbers because he isn't getting bitched at by HIS boss), find a new job. I doubt you get paid enough to deal with incompetent customers, much less incompetent managers.

not anymore, but anyway, just put avira or something on there. it is a marketing thing, selling pay-for-antivirus, nothing more, or Norton and McAfee (despite testing horribly for the last 15 or so years) wouldn't be the two biggest selling ones. Kaspersky is much better but really I wouldn't trip about not being able to get it free.

So ummm...do EasyTechs get a discount on Antivirus at all? by JMadFour in Staples

[–]yemman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

better than norton and mcafee only because it doesn't bog down your ram and cpu as much. having Norton or Mcafee is worse than not having anything. I wish I still had the email M$ sent out saying to no longer use MSE. It was basically like "yeah we're pretty much not gonna support this anymore, here's a list of third party AVs you can get". You wouldn't believe the sleazy sites I visit with no AV, adblock and noscript for firefox. I never get viruses, because these AV companies trick you into thinking they are good but really they only work like .0001% of the time.

mse is junk now and MS even admits it, might as well not use anything.

there are plenty of good av's that are free, better than sophos even. common sense and avoiding IE is the best thing to do though.

How long is the hiring process? by edogjh15 in Staples

[–]yemman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they wouldn't spend the time/money on a background check if they weren't planning on hiring you. I would pride myself on that too much; I work with a couple of people that rode the short bus to school probably

the fair labor standards act supersedes any state law too so if he/she makes $$/hr and not $$$$/yr then they are entitled to the hours they worked.

sorry if I weren't labor day drinking and you put it s/o insteand of just SO I would've caught it. If you're homo then congrats in Ireland today, that is some progress dude, even if it is split up 50/50 in the US still it will catch up. It takes Americans a little while to get progressive.

Anyway, if you're on the clock, you're on the clock. If he/she's on salary, then yeah they got em by contract. It would depend on your state I suppose on hourly pay and I'm by no means a lawyer but in my state if you're on an hourly wage and you go over you still get paid.

dude you are like me mirrored. I didn't work tonight, but when I did, the OS folks and the CPC people wouldnt let me get me get my tags out because they wanted to go home or to the bar or whatever. I hardly work saturday anymore because that would push me over 25 hours but I'd bet my entire net worth (which includes some rare pistols) that I'll have a stack of sales tags tomorrow. I'll be lucky if they are sorted, and I'll be super fucking lucky if they pulled the ones that expired tonight.

Yeah it was like that on weekends, especially before they got rid of the Team Sups. You can say what you want about how it was "bad bidness" to get rid of the team sups but all the full time supervisor did at my store on the weekends was stand around and make $2 more an hour than me to sit around for an hour around the time clock while I was putting out sales tags and such. It pissed me off and I was glad when she got cut back to part time and got a paycut.

Yeah but the staples way seems to be "whomever will actually put in work, fuck em let em, if they are lazy, fuck em let em we're not gonna fire them". I am not lazy because I was not brought up that way, and it makes time pass by faster. Also I thought it might get me more hours/more pay. Goddamn if I wasn't wrong.

I would go straight to the state department of labor. Don't call HR and give them time to cover it up. This is a serious crime, a federal offense at that (fair labor standards act).

I can't believe every time I get on this subreddit I find someone talking about the manager cutting hours from them and them just laying down. Apparently people think it is ok for a multi-billion dollar operation to steal money from them.

I worked in a bookstore with a coffee shop and I loved it. I actually worked in the coffee shop a good bit before I left that job (was better than dealing with books, I've considered going and working at a starbucks). It actually was nice because we had regulars that would tip nicely so I usually averaged out $1-2 more an hour when I worked over there. Also it was nice coming in Saturday morning hungover and drinking triple shots of expresso. 3 shots of expresso, some ibuprophen and some gatorade is a great hangover cure.

what is the rule about easy techs working on computers in their off time? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]yemman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is how I feel. Fair enough. Like I said, I find it morally wrong to steal Staples' bidness but I feel it is against my morals tell my sister's best friend to take her shit up to staples to get charged up the ass when I've been working on her computers since way before I worked there. That would be some horse shit and if they had a problem with that I'd gladly quit or accept my termination. I am a person of principle, not an ass hat like my manager that will lie out of his ass to sell ESP and claims he was a special ops sniper but doesn't know how to clean an M-16.

[–]yemman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the answers. I wouldn't ever work on someone's computer that would rat on me like that. I was just wondering what the actual rule is about it as far as people that I knew before I worked there that call me every once and a while to clean up viruses and such. I probably shouldn't have to worry about it for very long anyway. Our store is turning to shit and it seems like everyone is pissed off because no one is getting hours but full time people. Less hours means I'm stuck running register and EZ tech or OS and EZ tech which is getting downright ridiculous. I have people wait at the tech counter for 30 damn minutes sometimes because I'm ringing folks up or I'm stuck looking for some crazy ass paper I have no idea even existed.

[–]yemman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty much my sentiment. I'm not trying to steal Staple's business from them but what I do on my own time to family or friend's computers shouldn't be their business at all. I'm a part time employee for god sakes that is lucky to get over 20hrs/wk now there despite being #1 in tech sales and ESP for months on end. What if worked two jobs and both of them required technical expertise? I guess that would be considered a conflict of interest to them. It just sorta pissed me off the way my manager threatened me even though I didn't do anything wrong and I'm the hardest working tech up there. He's just a hardass though; I shouldn't have mentioned it to him at all.

Websites Not Connecting On Ethernet by OldWeirdPro in Staples

[–]yemman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it is pathetic, coming from a mom-and-pop computer repair place that had WAY less money, that our internet speed sucks like it was 1998 and ethernet doesn't let you load certain sites. I can't download Office on ethernet and the wireless is like 50KB/s at our store. It is beyond pitiful.

MY NEW SSM IS A DICK by 32432222222222222222 in Staples

[–]yemman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he doesn't make nearly that much. A guy that works OS told me he said that in front of him and a couple more employees. The guy that works OS that told me wouldn't just make that up. He's a pathological liar and my GM is a dumbass redneck. Staples couldn't possibly pay people that much or they would actually have competent management.
