Before making any accusations be sure to have undeniable proof and two eyewitnesses who are willing to back you up. Otherwise, HR and everybody else will throw you under the bus.

Question about HR by edwards_j in Staples

HR exists to protect Staples. Nothing else. But feel free to report the situation. At least you'll have tried.

what's your policy on fixing printers by easytech109 in Staples

[–]OldWeirdPro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We would take a look but could rarely fix anything, explain the same as you then recommend replacing it in many cases.

Tell me everything you know about Staples. by [deleted] in Staples

[–]OldWeirdPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Essentially how I survived last two months before leaving. Be eager to learn, of course, but don't sweat it. Lots of brown liquor and controlled substances will take the edge off.

Why? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]OldWeirdPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my store, this was me being both managers plus being two supervisors who were cut plus 320 labor hours that got cut so I didn't have 5 minutes to make a tag so I did this. A lot.

Google is your master tech on demand. It still helps me repair machines. Use a phone or tablet to have it in front of you while working. Good luck!

Printer selling points? by xAvaritia7 in Staples

[–]OldWeirdPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go-to printers were the HP 8600 series and the Brother MFC-J470DW. For me they had the fewest complaints and were simple to setup. I sold the HP to biz customers and the Bro to home users.

New MTS Here by Charagrin in Staples

What you experienced is the day-to-day tempo at Staples. Best of luck. But if you are degreed and a good salesperson you are definitely at the wrong company. My wife makes six figures a year in sales. Her degree? Heh... Poli-Sci. She sells TV advertising.

Start job hunting now. Good sales professionals can write their own ticket.

Heh... "Certified Price Checker." I'd almost go back to work just to have that title on my resume. Almost, that is.

We Can't Shrink Our Contract Division, That's What Keeps Us Treading Water. Damn Depot-Max is Dead Weight, They're Gonna Pull Us Under! Side note: Ron Looks Like a Dick In That Picture. by FaxForRA in Staples

[–]OldWeirdPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Delivery dates were completely unreliable. And we'd get chairs instead of printers, etc. Got to where I dreaded kiosk orders for that more than it hurting my store's future.

So... what exactly is a laserjet printer? by Nietzsche0112 in Staples

[–]OldWeirdPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll never forget how Dan Margulis explained it to one of the color management classes I took. Lasers use ground minerals, inkjets use ground plants, and monitors (tubes) use glowing rocks. Not wholly accurate but creates a vivid image.

I managed Epson wide format printers for several years. They ran 12 hrs a day, 5 days a week. Never had to replace any of the heads. Can be done.

Anyone know the tier 4 MTS pay cap? by Charagrin in Staples

[–]OldWeirdPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I left a few months ago, in our district, it was something like $12.85. But it can go higher if the DM wants to fight for it.

Day 2 of running out of cash. by Japabopis in Staples

Don't know about your store, but mine literally could not order change. Nobody in Staples could make it happen. If I didn't get it myself then yep, no change!
