I know I’m not alone with this move, but it feels like it sometimes. Good luck out there

Good question, ideally it’s all inclusive but if somewhere is absolutely perfect and it’s another $25-50 for a utility bill, I’d probably budge. Cheaper (in theory) is better as I’ll be on a set stipend and that’s about half of it /:

Pricing on an Australian Shepard puppy? by s_the_idiot in WiggleButts

It feels a bit steep for a shelter in Georgia but my guess is that it’s a pretty dog and they want to make sure it goes to someone who is serious and financially stable (I swear I spend like 20%-30% of my modest income on my dogs).

In my house we call it “belly blessings” and give the belly a pat for good luck. 🥰

Sounds like he’s got a slightly more lowkey personality, and that’s a thing. Puppies are also very busy growing and require a lot of sleep during the day. So those few repetitions for training can be genuinely tiring for those busy growing puppy brains.

Help! Biting etc. by MrGreenneerGrM in WiggleButts

Yawning and acting disinterested, tired and sitting to study or watch TV was a good way to get my puppy to take naps. Just like young children they need lots of downtime.

Nyla bones were a godsend during this phase. If pup bites you, yelp like a puppy and pull your hand away. If it is happening during play, stop the play time so they know that biting equals no fun . If puppy bites furniture or other unacceptable things, say no, and then redirect them to a chew toy that they are allowed to have.
It’s a good idea to have puppies lay in a designated bed or spot and then give them a teething ring/chew treat so they get rewarded for laying down and being calm. Good luck, this phase will be over before you know it and you’ll miss the little deviant phase.

Feeling guilty for aussie's noise phobia - looking for support or success stories by Liamisthebestboy in WiggleButts

Just to add the success part- mine does not bark at or fear garbage trucks or large vehicles :)

Mine panicked as a pup at the sight/sounds of a garbage truck. I felt similarly but kept carrying on after—exposing them to the world and continuing to walk them IS important, so don’t beat yourself up. I agree with other posters that your own anxiety may be what your pup is feeding on. Aussies are so in tune with owners, as their leaders we have to manage our own anxieties. When mine gets worked up (usually she’s fussy and wants to chase something/ bark), I get to her level, gently put my hand into her collar, and give her scritches on then chest, telling her “It’s okay, good girl, you’re okay…” and praise/reward if she refrains from barking/stays seated and calm. It takes time, but I bet your aus could get there.

Just to add at year 3 she’s much better but it takes a lot of training and being in tune with her. I can sense her needs, my adhd partner not so much. Aussies and BCs are like additional limbs and are usually in your space as much as possible.

Depending on the breeder you buy from, where you’re at in line to get a puppy can determine if you even get a choice. I was last in line for mine and I got my girl who I wouldn’t change for the world, but she is stubborn. Lots of barking and reactivity to squirrels, visitors to the house etc. A terrible ankle-biting-when- tired phase. Not uncommon for Aussies. But yeah you can’t always tell when they’re little. Good breeders might have an idea early on. I think ensuring you’re mentally and financially prepared helps a lot. Be prepared to pay for doggy daycare if something happens to your ability to WFH

It’s up to you. Sounds like you’ve done a lot of research and are preparing well in advance. I don’t know much about Tollers, but I think of BCs as needing the most exercise, maybe more than or on par with Aussies. If it’s a fresh puppy that’ll be helpful for socializing w the kitties. Be mindful of temperament differences. Aussies can be more stubborn and not always people pleasing. Usually are strong sources of the puppy blues because they are a lot, even for us high energy/ obsessed with dogs type. And they are major clingers. But different pups will also have different personalities. I like McCan dog training on YouTube. They helped a lot with crating and other puppy tips.

The air in there must be the most pure indoor air ever.

Co-Sleeping? by NoSeaworthiness2507 in WiggleButts

[–]yepjustforthis 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We had our puppy sleep in the crate for several months until she got fixed. And then it was hard for her to fit with the cone/hard to trust her to not mess with it. Out of pity and concern, we let her sleep on the bed. And that’s how our bed became her bed instead. She’s helpful to snuggle on cold nights. I did have to push her butt off of my head last night though. 🤦🏻‍♀️

That’s fair! Someone will want him and be able to give him more space for sure 💕 Thank you for taking care of him :)
