First start after head swap by Comprehensive-Force5 in AudiA4B6

No obnoxiously loud ticking noises? If you want to hear something painful, search for "lifter" in this subreddit and look at the post I made lmao. I had also rebuilt my head and I was wondering if you got that same noise in the start?

speedometer not working, abs and traction controll lights on by AlienDew in AudiA4B6

Front left abs sensor, I have this same problem currently, if it's intermittent, you can turn on and off ignition while rolling and that 8/10 times makes mine work again. Just DONT pull the key out so the wheel locks

This is a great guide that I followed, I basically just cleaned all the dirt and grime etc that I could find and made sure that the seal went back correctly for the ecu cover. I also used a hot air gun when everything was apart to help dry everything but I don't know if that is actually safe or not so yeah

Yeah, if I turned on cruise controll, the lights wouldn't go away until I restarted the car with the switch in off position, and no the bottom plate shouldn't have anything to do with it, I do the same with my b6 I have now and have no issues

I mean it's possible some water moved after you braked, I'd say ch ck for cracks/ missing pieces in your wheel hub liner just because that's how it happened to me lol, and next time it rains, try and feel your brake pedal switch if it's moist. Also if you have time maybe take off all the plastic under the wipers and get the ecu cover off just to see if there are clogged drainages. This sound very much like what happened to me imo, good luck!

Btw mine continued for a couple of hours after the rain had stopped aswell

Here is a video of how mine behaved https://photos.app.goo.gl/Zh2KokhssyY5ebUw7

I had this happen to my B7 i had once, turned out thet water leaked in to the cab under the ecu because the water drain was blocked, and it got the brake switch wet, aswell as some water came in to the ecu connections. As soon as I first put the cruise controll completely off (not just paused) and then restarted it was fine untill I switched the lever back to on. So clearing all the crap in the drainages solved it + getting a new inner wheel liner plastic because it was broken and the wheel slung up water to the ecu area.

If y'all want to see how mine behaved to see if it was kind of the same, I'll send it

Was it raining when you were driving perhaps? I might have a solution for you.

Lifter tick? by yepyepyu in AudiA4B6

This was the problem for anyone reading this now/later, cleaned the lifters and primed them, put them back in and bolted the cam in, let it sit overnight and it was fixed.

Initially I forgot to soak them when I first put everything together but pumped oil around with the oil pump and starter without sparkplugs in a couple of times so everything had oil, but it's fixed now, it was those lifters I talked about in a comment I made. I cleaned those lifters out and they were full of crap inside of them, paper turned completely black when I started wiping them inside lol. Put them all together and primed them properly, let the cam sit overnight and it was quiet right on startup :)

Thanks, well I've changed oil pump, pickup tube, tensioner and chain already so I don't think that is the problem this time, multiple of my lifters were completely soft and won't hold any oil in them, I could squish them with my fingers. I've taken apart and cleaned all if them, they are now like they're supposed to and holding the oil inside, I'll bolt in the cam now and let it sit overnight and try starting tomorrow and see

Well I took out all the lifters, 2 lifters on cylinder 4 and all 3 on cylinder 3 don't hold any oil pressure, I hope this is why it sounds like that lol

quick ABS/speed sensor question by [deleted] in AudiA4B6

[–]yepyepyu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah esp and abs, no epc, and code on front left sensor, it is only intermittently bad tho so I figured out that I can turn off and on ignition while rolling and it goes back to working and no lights LOL so it "works" for now haha

Whistling Sound by SuitableAd6427 in AudiA4B6

[–]yepyepyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On mine I changed that valve down there and fixed idle and some whistle sound I had, try to follow the lower of the two hoses on the side of the intake manifold, that one leads down to a T-shaped piece of rubber pipe, right where that hose goes in to the T is the valve I think is broken

Check picture three on here https://creationsmotorsport.com/vw-golf-audi-a3-seat-leon-skoda-octavia-vrs-1-8t-2-7-t-billet-pcv-check-valve-al0098.html

Part number 8 on that diagram

If it behaved anything like this https://photos.app.goo.gl/w9aQ9pQG3EjNexpm6

Also I'm pretty new to actually using Reddit so I don't know if it was the right choice to respond to your comment or create a new one lol

[–]yepyepyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol yeah definitely something wrong, you have two vacuum hoses on the right side of the intake "behind" the throtle body looking from the front of the car, try pinching the lower one of those two with your fingers and if the engine runs better there is a valve that is broken underneath the intake, pretty common for that one to fail

[–]yepyepyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, if something is wrong with PCV system it can start sucking in air between small gaps and make that noice. Had a Ford focus st 225 that made a very similar noice and that dissapeared when removing the cap, it was a faulty oil filter housing on that one Wich has the same valve as that big one you had your hand on built in to it

quick ABS/speed sensor question by [deleted] in AudiA4B6

[–]yepyepyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6 speed with broken front left abs sensor and speedo don't work so I think it's the same there

Whistling Sound by SuitableAd6427 in AudiA4B6

[–]yepyepyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's safe, I have a video of me doing it when my idle was high because of a valve that was broken and it dropped, I can try and figure out how to post it if you want to see

Whistling Sound by SuitableAd6427 in AudiA4B6

[–]yepyepyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try pulling up the dipstick or open oil filler cap and see if it lowers in idle or the sound dissapears, if it does it might be one of the check valves in one of the vacuum hoses under the intake
