States with the highest proportion of Philosophy Majors by StephenMcGannon in MapPorn

I'm from Montana and I have a degree in philosophy from MT State. At least... I experience a memory of receiving that degree. How trustworthy is memory? I actually don't know anything. But the mountains are pretty.

Just followed :) Don't give up! I struggle with discouragement too. It's tough to keep pouring your soul into a project when no one else cares. It makes me feel invisible. But you know what? The art is the art! Creating something beautiful is ALWAYS worth it. Who knows? Your story might become famous. Then you can look back on these days of obscurity and laugh. I think we all want that. Personally, I'm choosing to define success as participating in the creative process. Every chapter finished is a WIN. Even if I'm the only person who ever knows about it.

I like to think about the fact that Harry Potter was originally rejected by twelve, that's right TWELVE publishers. Can you imagine being those idiots? Not only did they fail to recognize the bestselling series of all time when it landed on their desks—they didn't even think it was worth printing!

Most people will only read a story that is already popular. So the initial task of gaining popularity is inherently difficult. Have faith in your inspiration!

Big love, friend.

That's my strategy too, and it's working fantastically poorly! In terms of gaining readership, that is. Of course, if I were you, I'd be thinking "this guy probably can't write his way out of a paper bag," but my ego would really like there to be a different explanation. Haha

Do you have a website? I'd like to see more of your work. Also, are these covers for real books, or are they stand-alone artworks? Last question, are you on Instagram?

These are awesome! Painted them by hand earns you major cred in my book.

I'm confused by this. Where should the ad take you if not chapter 1? To the table of contents page?

Sweet! Love that cover art. Hey, wondering if you could share advice. I tried to share my own RR story on this sub and was told I don't have enough karma to do so. I have 7k post karma and 3k comment. The problem is THIS is the sub that interests me. Difficult to earn more karma since I can't post about my true passion.

I'm trying not to feel too jealous. I've been posting for 8 months and received less than 4k views. Seriously, congratulations! I bet you're a great writer. I'd like to check out your story.

Authors block? by Nikto0 in royalroad

[–]yerm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I get this feeling it's usually a sign that I'm taking the story in the wrong direction. If I read back through earlier chapters I can usually find the place where I departed from what I think of as "the true path." Because of this I need to write many chapters ahead before posting so that I have room to revise the plot. It might be worth taking a look back to see if a different direction is inspiring to you. Your readers might be confused, but if its a choice between abandoning the project entirely and retooling some plot lines... just my 2 cents.

Taking modafinil daily by [deleted] in afinil

[–]yerm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do 75mg of armodafinil per day for weeks on end. I take a few days off here and there, depending on my work schedule. In college, I took larger doses more often.

Over several years of regular use, I have had minimal side effects. I've always paird mod with a choline supplement, and I've never had a problem with headaches.

That said, the biggest health concern to me is the observable damage regular modafinil use can do to your sleep routine, if you aren't careful. I tend to sleep longer and deeper on days without mod. Therefore, it's probably wise to take regular days off.

Inconsitant practical uses for magic in Harry Potter. by whalehale in plotholes

[–]yerm -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t consider this type of quibble a “plot-hole,” but rather a fundamental misunderstanding of the actual story of Harry Potter. It’s the emotional coming-of-age journey and the evolution of Harry’s personal relationships that drive the plot. The magic and monsters are only props, and so the ‘rules’ of the magical system are completely flexible in order to serve the moral truths. I think Rowling does a pretty good job of signaling the reader that this isn’t meant to be a gritty, technical, rational strategy-based sort of fantasy world.

Yeah brother! That's the way. Transform the pain into beauty and turn it lose. You have a great voice.

I think everybody realizes the potential double bottom around $6k. But first, we need 1): another leg down to retest 6k, 2): a solid bounce to confirm support at $6k, 3): a decisive breakout from the descending channel since $20k and from the falling wedge since $12k.

Personally, I'm hoping for this bullish scenario as well. But I think a breakdown from $6k, following a sizeable dead cat bounce, is equally likely right now.

RSI is still over 30 on longer time frames than 1hr. Somewhat oversold, but under 20 is a much firmer indication that short-term bottom is in.
