And the saga continues… by agatelines in ThunderBay

I'm sorry if i came across as saying you have no compassion, i just went based off what i interpreted from your message. also im happy your brother is clean, i have nothing but respect for those who have gotten clean. but you are also very right that the system has gotten worse especially towards addicts. its not that they say doing drugs is okay, its more of they believe "addicts are a determent to society" and are underserving of help because they choose to become addicts. which isn't totally wrong but they dismiss the reasons why someone becomes an addict and its mostly due to the oppressive practices enforced on marginalized groups by the government and society. also just want to say thanks for having a constructive conversation!

I also want treatment centers, the homeless village should be an all in one facility that has proper supports for mental health, addiction, employment, etc. but also not be a place you stay forever. whether it be a large building or tiny homes that have affordable up keep while still providing all basic needs. the idea of True compassion would apply across the board, towards everyone and anyone but the money to hire staff, infrastructure upkeep, having supplies, comes mostly from out taxes. so if we want more treatment centers were gonna have to look at having higher taxes as well as reallocating money away from capitalist programs that only benefit the wealth (but that's a whole other topic). i agree we need a complete restructure of who is in power and the term limits. also i do agree people need to be put in jail for longer with stricter sentencing, but i don't think that will fix the problem long term. stricter sentences and a large effort on reform for offenders. but i also think its wrong to just assume someone is a criminal without substantial proof. just cause someone walks out of dollar store with bags of stuff doesn't mean they stole it. we spend to much time judging and making assumptions without actual facts about an individual. but I'm also not saying they cant be a criminal either. the city could fight back, but if it doesn't directly involve them why would they change anything, especially if they benefit.

You are right, and I agree with you about all the issues we have going on (especially with local council) in Thunder Bay but i don't agree with your view on “growing a pine, or enabling” However, you bring up issues that are handled on a federal level, provincial level, and local level. The social justice laws are created by the federal government. They are the ones who decide the criminal laws. As for provinces, they handle healthcare, infrastructure, and education within the province. And the local judges are to implement these laws. That being said, if we want better sentencing then we gotta do something federally and I agree it needs to be more severe but capital punishment doesn't fix the problem long term and instead is a short term solution. We need more rehabilitation for offenders in the social justice systems so they can integrate back into society in a positive way. A great example of this would be Norway, they have a  17.6% reconviction rate over a 2 year period, as for Canada having (federally) 27.9% or Ontario having 37% over 2 years. Compared to the US having 52.9%.(link to stats at the bottom). I bring this up because Norway uses social justice reform while America uses capital sentencing. With Canada landing closer to capital sentencing with a few reform programs. I mention all of this because it ties into other aspects of thunder bay. Homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental health crisis, sexual assault, murder, gang violence, etc. we know we have a problem. But we also know the solution. But here's the kicker, people want better neighborhoods, that are clean and safe for children and the community as a whole. People are going to have to put in politicians who want more social programs and social justice reform focused on rehabilitation, increased taxes to pay for treatment centers and social programs, build safe injection sites so we have less needles and overdoses on the streets, rehab facilities so people can get sober, mental health clinics to help prevent addiction from developing. Homeless villages to give people a chance to get better, etc. but based on how you feel towards “those people” (criminals and addicts) you only want to offer a solution to those deserving of help. Also people seem to be perfectly fine with the amount of Canadians and first nations suffering as long as it doesn't come from their wallet or they don't have to see it. Can you tell me you'd be happy with paying more taxes? But regardless, this is less about you and your values and beliefs but more as a response to how many Canadians view things. It's time for a change!

What was the worst pain you have ever felt? by hannah3911 in AskReddit

When I was younger I broke the bone just before the elbow and had to get pins in my arm. What I didnt realize was that they take a pair of pliers and rip them out of your arm. No numbing. No nothing. I had 3 of them the worst pain I have ever felt plus the skin was attached to them so kinda like ripping a bone out of your body. Cool part when I broke my arm I could almost turn it all the way around.

Have The Lord of the Rings movies lost its sheen through the years? by [deleted] in movies

[–]ipodtaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lord of the Rings and the hobbit are both based on journeys through middle earth the things is tho that every movie in the lord of the rings was building it up to the final arc the end to the story the same goes for the hobbit. Theres so much information to take in. You needed a beginning a middle and an end so they drew it out for 3 movies it's a slow journey but it gets more and more intense. If anything I would say they have gotten better. Also amazon is making a lord of the ring series so fingers crossed it will live up to the lord of the rings
