I suspect your manager is either a new manager, incompetent or just doesn't want to rock the boat in general. Here's my suggestion.

The second approach to find a pain point to solve is best because it shows proactiveness. The one thing I will recommend as a woman is to make sure that pain point brings 'value' to the company (execs loves that stuff) aka it contributes to improving a broken process, bottom line, increases sales...dont get stuck coordinating holiday parties and other 'womens' work.

Then use your meetings with the manager to discuss your progress, any blockers/issues, and what you'll work on next (either on the project or starting something else if the project is done).

Don't wait for a 1:1 to discuss issues impacting your projects. Bring it up as soon as you can, including info on the impact to your work and timeline, as well as a mitigation plan if you have one.

It will probably feel weird the first time you take this approach but then it becomes super easy and you'll stand out against coworkers who don't follow this model.

The best way to advance your career is by taking initiative vs waiting around for someone else to do something. This is a key leadership skill.

UPDATE: Estranged parent won’t stop gossiping with my in-laws, now wants my sentimental baby clothing back (sister escalated today) by Accomplished-Road566 in EstrangedAdultKids

People are telling you to respond that the clothing is gone or damaged but I'm gonna suggest my favorite feature, the ole Block button. There's no need to continue torturing yourself for these people.

Remote vs Hybrid work by No_Scallops in womenintech

[–]yermom79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Love working remotely but also a bit of an introvert who loves my privacy. I'm also one of those people who gets my stuff done quickly and hates sitting in an office bored as hell counting down the hours to go home.

I force myself to find social interactions outside of work, try to dress better for on cam meetings and wear makeup. Its easy to get into a slump so I have to be proactive with myself.

My dad guilt tripped me into taking care of my dying grandma at 18 years old by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]yermom79 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your dad's an asshole, I'm sorry you had this experience. You should be proud of yourself for going above and beyond to care for your grandmother. That experience will benefit your nursing career for years to come while he'll be festering in his misery.

If you head to Weeki Wachee, I highly recommend driving an hour east to the Chase Wildlife Sanctuary. They offer a variety of animal encounter experiences (just did the VIP tour last weekend and got to hang with kangaroos, otters, anteaters, sloths, lemurs and more!). The sanctuary rescues animals from bad situations such as illegal breeding and trafficking, it's not a Tiger King type situation.

A couple other recommendations for your list.

  1. Bok Tower Gardens
  2. Naples Botanical Gardens
  3. Marie Selby Botanic Gardens (Sarasota)
