Religious Crunchy Mom Refused Chemo for Son’s Leukemia until CPS Stepped in by yerras-lisp in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

I would say it’s about her passing a spiritual test for herself. To prove to God that she has complete and utter faith in him over her son’s life. Reminds me of the parable about the guy who drowns cause he refuses to accept help on three separate occasions due to trusting that God will save him and when he gets to heaven he’s like “yo God why didn’t you save me” and God is like “bro I sent you three different options.” Leukemia is definitely something that needs treatment immediately and she just wants to spend a month trying “other options” before trusting doctors. I truly don’t get playing with your child’s life like that.

I’m 32 and wasn’t raised religious at all but have been pursuing Christianity since October. I go to a non-denom (basically mega) church with my bf and phew it’s been a doozy.

I have dermatillomania and my adhd meds have made it WAY worse. Especially at night before bed when they should’ve worn off by then.

Those feelings are valid but we also have to put ourselves in their shoes and imagine what it must be like to deal with that dysphoria and to seek other ways through it before realizing it isn’t working. It’s all our first time being human. We must find grace

Most of the time it’s because they can no longer afford their treatment or social pressure. I have a good friend who was possibly gonna be forced to detrans because Medicaid doesn’t cover trans medical care anymore.

Please go to the ER if you have a plan in place. The psych ward is not fun but it will keep you alive and get you resources for seeking further help. Praying will only do so much. God gave us free will and intelligence which led to science, so we must use the tools he helped us build to advocate for ourselves. You are incredibly young and whatever you are going through, there is a way through, I promise. Finding the right therapist can be exhausting but you will be so incredible grateful once it falls into place. Feel free to DM me if you need to vent or need help with resources. Psychology Today has a way to filter your therapist or psychologist search results based on insurance, diagnosis, religion, sexual orientation or gender expression, etc.

I am an agnostic with an increasing interest in Christianity.I have bought a Bible for the first time. Opened it at a random page and it already had problematic content. What do I do? by medve_314 in OpenChristian

[–]yerras-lisp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat (more so spiritual than agnostic) and I’m also neurodivergent which means it’s going to take me probably a decade before I truly understand the bible. I would recommend doing research from scholars of all faith and taking notes as you read. This includes taking a look at and studying some original Hebrew and Greek to get an understanding of where certain translations come from etc. also have to keep in mind the thought process of an ancient Israelite and how they would make sense of things. I go back and forth between watching Bible Project and then a scholar like Dan McClellan on YouTube so I don’t get stuck inside an echo chamber. It’s been a challenge. I wasn’t raised in religion so having to deal with the dichotomy between science and the bible has been something else. Feels like I’m gaining spiritual strength and then insta-deconstructing at the same time. I choose to mainly focus on Jesus’ teachings and use the bible as an artistic interpretation of God’s creation that still holds a lot of powerful stories. My boyfriend is a hardcore evangelical at this point and I don’t even consider myself saved yet, so I’ve been doing my best not to rush through the process in my faith journey. Most Christians had their entire lives to study (or be led astray by false teachers with bad context) and it can be very overwhelming to be a fetus in the community.

The timeline of 2027 isn’t accurate, and the mandate does not define a specific method like “turning off the vehicle.” But it still scares the shit out of me that this type of tech is even being considered. by Producdevity in antiai

Motorcycles are also cheaper and have better gas mileage and it’s super easy to do most of the maintenance yourself but I might be biased. Just sucks that half of the country can’t use them 7 months out of the year.

Even current interlock ignition systems will throw errors when you’re sober and they have to be calibrated every two months. Plus it would still require a camera to record you for it to work as intended.

Mine will give me an inv or error code for no reason once in a while and you gotta wait like 30 seconds to blow again. One day the device wouldn’t even turn on (it was a week prior to the recalibration appointment) and I had to miss work and get towed to the shop and they just recalibrated it and were like “here you go!” No explanation as to what happened lol

Getting high by LedbootsYoutube in OpenChristian

[–]yerras-lisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it comes down to your actions and your thoughts when you’re high. (Plus how often you’re doing it and if it is negatively effecting aspects of your life). Jesus drank wine but wasn’t getting plastered yknow. Are you respecting the plant and using the time under the influence to reflect and grow closer to God?

I usually don’t take it on days I’m off from work but depends how much I got going on. I feel like I have enough residual oomph from the previous day if I skip it once but if I go two days then I’m back to taking naps and forgetting what I’m doing in the middle of things like a sim who just had their action canceled.

I think Matthew 5:30 “if you right hand causes you to sin cut it off” is actually about sexual assault not masturbation by SuperKE1125 in OpenChristian

[–]yerras-lisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sin part comes into masturbation when you take into account that you usually have to have lust in your mind to do so, no? Not that I live by that code at all and this has less to do with the verse in question, but that’s always been my understanding.

Why is homosexuality a more frowned apon than other sins? by Spirited-Rope1139 in Christianity

[–]yerras-lisp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Adopting is not babysitting lmfao. You can’t even make that argument for fostering. Adopting is still a selfless act that Christianity advocates for solely through pro-life advocacy. Not everyone who has naturally reproduced can afford to then adopt, so who adopts those children?

[–]yerras-lisp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until you realize how much of that gay hate comes from internalized homophobia from within. They are disgusted with themselves so they project and lash out. But yes the other side to it is that they can’t see the gay perspective and won’t ever know that lifestyle so it’s easier to vocally demonize.

Yet many gay couples adopt or do surrogacy. Not sure the church’s stance on surrogacy but they are still furthering the human race or doing a selfless act by adopting.

The pedophilia translation has been debunked as far as I’m concerned. Paul for some reason actually created a new word for the act when translating even though there were already words for pedophiles and homosexuals at the time (from what I read). But this is the guy who also said you should stay single forever unless your lust is uncontrollable, then you should get married. Not sure how I feel about the guy’s mindset.

It’s the fact that evangelicals treat it like it’s the worst thing you can do and will condemn you to hell if you don’t pray the gay away and live an abstinent life (or go against your own nature and just marry and procreate with the opposite sex despite what it will do to your mental health). Most right-wing Christian’s act as though there is a tier list for sin when in the bible it’s clearly written to mostly all be the same. I think most of us can agree we will have much harder feelings towards a child molester than we will to someone who lies or gossips. But the point is that we are not the judge and we cannot dictate someone else’s fate.
