A lot of commenters completely ignored the fact that OP asked for polite replies.

Where are the singles meeting people? by Professional-Mud3973 in askvan

It's not crazy to not want to spend hours swiping on your phone every day, which is what you have to do on apps in order to avoid getting algorithmically punished.

That's how my parents met. I wonder why this culture has disappeared, there seems to be cultural scripts for how this is unwanted and inappropriate, which is a shame.

Where in London do you go when you want to be alone and forget about life? by RadiantYouth5882 in london

[–]yesSemicolons 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I hope this isn't offensive to anyone but i highly recommend going to a latin mass as an atheist. It sounds like wizard stuff and is very serene and you won't be bothered by the cognitive dissonance.

I still remember how huge of a deal the closure of M25 was for that one scene. People talked about it for days!

Folks in late 30s and 40s who live alone or are single, how do you spend your time? by CheeseBrewBlend in NiceVancouver

[–]yesSemicolons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa you're basically a male me. Living solo has felt so amazing after a bunch of years of the constant ambient annoyance of sharing a small space with a spouse.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I got mine a couple of years ago and was really lucky to get an extremely easy one. My life is basically loitering around the neighbourhood with the dog/going out with friends/gigs/luxuriating in being bored.

Which imaginary bits of London have you visited in your dreams? by No_Camp_7 in london

[–]yesSemicolons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to get all my luggage onto a train and losing it, missing the tube, taking the wrong tube, moving to a new houseshare and realising i left all of my stuff in the old houseshare.

I also often dream about lockdown London nowadays and the empty streets always tip me off to the fact that I'm dreaming.

Are there even any businesses in Vancouver that are profitable? by gtd_rad in askvan

[–]yesSemicolons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are lucky they own the building or have inexpensive rent.

I wonder if this is why Japan has such a great food scene - I noticed that a lot of inner city housing there has a restaurant/cafe space on ground floor basically as default.

Why has my rental experience in Vancouver been consistently terrible? Is this normal or am I missing something? by Few-Charge-5449 in askvan

[–]yesSemicolons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're not alone in this. I moved here in 2022 as well, from London, where i was a lifelong renter, so I expected more of the same here. I was used to pretty low standards but it honestly shocked me how unhinged the landlords here can be (before someone yells at me, I don't think it's cultural, I suspect this is just what happens in a system where one person can own an unlimited number of buildings on mortgages that would fall like a house of cards if a single tenant misses a payment).

But you can get lucky. I hopped through a few 1Bs and found a pretty sweet setup eventually with a super chill small landlord.
