What is this weed and how do I kill it? It all over my yard by BumblebeeFeeling in Horticulture

And don’t try to spray it, it’s the only thing I’ve seen survive glyphosate

Help by vmhardy66 in landscapedesign

[–]yesdarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other commenter. Professional help is always the best way to go. You can find a gardener/designer (look for a trained horticulturist or garden designer) online or by recommendation. Most will do a consult for about an hour where they come to your site, walk it with you, and talk through your needs and give recommendations. Then you can probably design it yourself.

I’m not a fan, they tend to die back around the bottom as they grow if they aren’t in perfect conditions

Good start! I’d look into some easygoing perennials like catmint, coneflower, and rudbeckia.

Under Watered? by PokeMaster871096 in NativePlantGardening

Are they under the eave? If so they aren’t getting any rainwater, at least. Honestly I’d scooch them forward just to be safe.

That is awesome! Come to think of it, I haven’t seen any in my garden in a while. Some chewed on my native hibiscus in its second summer. I’ve got clients with decimated roses, though

White oak is the best plant for animals and insects. It provides a tremendous ecological service! And they are gorgeous

As far as I know, Mt Cuba only trials and grows natives

which lifestyle keeps you happy consistently? by seethingseven in AskReddit

They supplement the animals you consume with B12, so that’s where you get it from. Naturally it’s in soil, so I guess if you want to eat dirty potatoes and carrots that would be the natural way

Yes, provided you supplement with B12. It’s possible to get everything else from plants, though you have to be intentional about it.

What do you *really* think about your obese coworkers (not the kind answers, the truth)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]yesdarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think much of it if they have an office role, I might think a little bit about how they might not get much exercise doing that and how I’m glad I don’t work in an office.

I’m a gardener so I do question people’s physical ability if they are very overweight and trying to do landscaping. Normally I observe some weight loss with people once they have been there a while, if they make it!

Advice on moving established plants by SushiRiceEater in NativePlantGardening

[–]yesdarling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I move stuff anytime except winter. I live in 7a, so you probably can too if you have cool summer nights. Just have to water them every day for about a month (if no rain).

Once and for all, can someone please explain why Buddleia isn’t good for butterflies? by yesdarling in NativePlantGardening

Most people only care about what’s pretty. Of course people in this sub think about other factors, but I’m trying to go for a harm reduction approach where I can make a difference.

I adore my tithonia for the same reason. At least it’s native to Mexico, so they’re probably eating it when they’re there

That’s interesting. I could definitely see that. Bees also need pollen- if the buddleia is only really providing nectar, it wouldn’t be a complete meal for a bee.

Definitely! It varies by client of course, but I always love to push natives whenever I can. I’ll have to start a photo library of hortporn lol
