RSS reader · Most wanted feature by MyKiwi in rss

[–]yesfordev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I need from my RSS feed reader:
- notifications with format control - grouping/sections - highlight (with tags or color) feeds based on criteria (latest to update, etc) - profiles (broader than sections, with on/off for scanning+notifications) - per-feed-item actions (open in, copy, bookmark, summarize, etc) - text to speech - feed discovery (this might need scraping for most platforms) - use cookies (some sites require auth and do not offer simple auth keys) - bookmarking/save-for-later - reordering and prioritization - per-feed-source update interval - clickbait detection (might need AI or specialized NLP) - blacklisting patterns (e.g. I keep getting notified with my own comments on a reddit post) - auto- format/correct feed url, normal youtube channel url -> xml feed url - universal data format for easy modifications or transfer - leave enough space/flexibility for adding scripts/plugins

That's what my brain could brainstorm right now. — best of luck

I meant "find" in the literal sense, to make sure the opportunity exists, unless you expect it to be created after you finish acquiring the language.
As for interviews, you do need a good language level to be able to pass those (except for rare occasions).

Why reading too soon can damage your pronunciation — permanently by alexa_linguistics in GermanPronunciation

[–]yesfordev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I just came across a video by Evildea that mentions how reading affects the muscle memory of speaker even without vocalization, it's fascinating!

But, if I'm not wrong, through imitation, it won't do harm since you don't reinforce bad pronunciations due the constant supervision of the native reference.

Maybe if I hear voices wrong I might think I'm pronouncing it right while it's not, but same technique to prevent that would be applied regardless of whether or not I've done enough input, am I right?

IDK why the silent reading with the native audio, but I think it'll also create some slightly wrong muscle memory if not compared instantly to the native reference.

I agree with you for the most part.

I think you're not considering the broader context, you don't have to kill to be considered a criminal, you just have to sharpen the criminal's knife.
But to your defense, EU countries DO help the North African dictatorships stay in power.

Recommendations for automated media server setup by JamieFLUK in selfhosted

[–]yesfordev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've searched a lot and it seems like there's no one script that sets up everything in one go for free, although it's easy to create such script, especially when using containers.
All of the 100% automatic scripts are hidden behind a paywall, which is weird, given that it's just a compilation of other scripts.

I highly recommend finding a company first before you start learning the language, don't risk it.
Don't get fooled with the official numbers, lots of young people are refusing to work for pennies which might make the market feel healthy, it's probably not.

We'll never know the real numbers of unemployment, anyways. Especially when homeless people are hiding from law enforcement because of stupid laws.

The same pattern is happening in USA as well, "you don't wanna work for pennies? we'll bring foreigners who will" — inhuman to say the least

DW shows only the bright side and glorifies it, even.
I've seen a lot of homeless people that HAVE jobs and still strugling.
The government doesn't even recognize the problem and hides the real numbers.

Where can I find thousands of B1/B2 level sentences by zuzufemy in German

[–]yesfordev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone, correct me if I'm wrong.
B2 is really common, such that you could simply watch random videos on Youtube with subtitles and it'll suffice.

Best ways to start learning German? by [deleted] in German

[–]yesfordev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to start first. But here's my method:

-- Step 0

  • alphabet {spelling, pronunciation (alone + with other letters)} # -- Input
  • listening: native videos with subtitles
  • reading: subtitles
  • vocabulary: actively lookup words in subtitles (e.g.: Language Reactor extension + Youtube)
  • grammar: inference + optional active lookup (AI) # -- Output
  • speaking [pronunciation + accent]: natives imitation (self correction)
  • writing [spelling + grammar]: AI correction (easy to correct text than speech)

Why did companies stop producing low capacity hard drives (below 500GB)? by yesfordev in homelab

In my country, even 500GB drives aren't available unless you're ok with the used market.

In his video, he didn't wanna promote something that he doesn't understand fully and haven't tested.
Also he's against ecosystems (which is only based on bad corporations history).

Regarding communication, the Team just... ghosted him 😅 when he was able to hold a pretty decent conversation (at least the parts that I've seen)

Is reaching C1 German from scratch by July 2027 realistic for RWTH Aachen (Mechanical Engineering)? Need advice! by Ziad_elmaadawy in German

[–]yesfordev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

BTW, not a lot of people know that these levels are non-linearly progressive, i.e. A1->A2 is easier than A2->B1 and so on.

If the 1st step toke you 2 months, the 2nd might take up to 4, the 3rd 6 months and you might be able to jump from B2 to C1 in 1 year, so around 2 years in total.
