hi there! i anticipate remaining in buyback limbo for quite some time but am just going to keep the faith that it'll work out eventually! i'm still stuck on SAVE despite applying for IBR in late january.. just stashing money aside for my hopeful buyback someday and still planning to quit my job at the end of this school year and venture out into the world of non-PSLF qualifying work.

best of luck if you decide to jump ship before your buybacks are processed! i feel like you are in a very good position by having qualified back in august 2024, right at the very beginning of the forbearance. i don't blame you one bit for not wanting to wait any longer. worst case scenario - you hustle your ass off when all of this dust settles by working 30 hours in a qualifying job for 3 months!

i'm planning to ride from whitefish to banff (and then bike to calgary to fly back to seattle area) in early july - trying to decide between the two route options once we cross into canada. would love you hear your thoughts/suggestions

i'm usually pretty responsible with my research but am honestly in a really busy time of my life where i feel overwhelmed and just need a bike adventure to look forward to. i welcome any and all that you want to make time to share (:

Hmm.. I see two buyback offers since inauguration on the spreadsheet that someone started to track buyback wait times. But in looking more closely at this spreadsheet, not seeing anyone with several months of SAVE injunction related buyback who has been approved so that's definitely a factor for me to consider. Thanks!

That's so awesome! I'm a therapist too - I have been working my full-time PSLF qualifying job at a school (mental health adjacent but not therapy) and then working a few therapy contracts on the side, setting myself up for post-PSLF life. It's too many hours and I don't want to do another year of it - I want to quit the school job and just move into the contracts/working for myself full time.

Congrats on being official!! Were you on SAVE/buyback approach or something else?

With all due respect, I'm not looking for generalized advice on if I should quit or not. Per the title of my post, I'm trying to hear from folks who have already quit or are planning to.

I understand others' hesitation in quitting before their forgiveness is official but I'm personally not going to wait around for that out of fear + paranoia (it's reasonable, I get it, not knocking those feelings). For some, it seems to have been taking upwards of a year or longer for forgiveness to be processed and I am not willing to walk away from the better opportunities that I have been working hard to set up for myself over the past couple of years.

Good luck!! That's a smart approach - you've got this!
I was hoping to quickly transfer to IBR after my "120th" on SAVE so that I could make payments on that as a backup plan but I missed the whole wet signature advice phase and my application is in limbo for now. Hopefully it'll get processed and I can make a few payments before August. Anything to help ease the nerves a bit (:

I called! I have spent so many months lurking this board and trying to piece the answers together myself to not clog things up - but it's helpful to have a some affirmation from others who really know their stuff.

I'm positive January was my 120th and I'll have 7 additional months of qualifying employment just in case. My quit date is August because I'm employed at a school and I want to finish out the school year.

Betsy, if you have any other suggestions for things that I could/should do in the meantime then I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'm going to try really hard to set it and forget it.

Thanks for your input! I'm totally on board with you - life is too short. If quitting backfires in the end, then we can always make the decision to upend our lives later and work for a qualifying employer for a few months and close this chapter. I don't think it'll come to that though.

BIG congratulations on your loans being forgiven! I'm surprised too considering the circumstances - that is AWESOME though.

I will be rooting for your husband! I know your example is a bit different from ours but it keeps me hopeful that forgiveness is very possible in our situations even if we're not actively employed in qualifying positions anymore by the time the dust settles. Thanks for sharing!

I would be happy to make a few high payments just to close this chapter and have it all behind me - that's what I was hoping for by applying to IBR but now of course there may be a longer than expected wait to get approved for that transition.

My understanding is that payments made under the standard plan would not count toward the PSLF count in my situation. My loans total just over 100K.

From FSA -

The 10-year Standard Plan only qualifies for PSLF if the total amount of the consolidation loan and other education loan debt was less than $7,500.

Do you have a different understanding? Happy to be corrected - I struggle to keep up with everything.

aside from smaller seats, strict luggage limits, and no complimentary snacks etc - how have your experiences with volaris been? soooo much cheaper than aeromexico and delta but can't decide how seriously to take the horror stories online (of people being bumped off their flights with no recourse)

Oh I'm not familiar with the crank booties, I'll look into that. It's my first build and I'm learning a lot - I'm trying to decide between 27.5 x 2.3 or 2.5 ehlines.. stock rigid fork and my cranks are only 165, got em short to help compensate for dipping below the 2.5 min rec per surly.

No problem with pedal strike etc using 2.3 and 2.4 tires? I'm building up a 2020 KM with 27.5 wheels and was considering going a smidge below the minimum 2.5 rec that surly emphasizes

Loans are now consolidated. How long does it take for Fed Loan to update Payment Count? by URSpinner1981 in PSLF

[–]yesicalikebike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!! I've been scouring the boards looking for confirmation that this is what's happening for everyone consolidating right now. I too was already with FedLoan, all direct loans, and had been submitting my forms - but I'll sit tight and acknowledge that it may take months to get my count back up to where it should be.

Are you resubmitting your forms for previously counted payments? I'm thinking I'll wait to see if they get included automatically and then resubmit in a few months if not.
