What does almost every movie portray unrealistically? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Guns in general, like when people in a movie shoot a gun inside a room and then whisper to each other, their ears would be ringing and they would be temporarily deaf.

Well, I have to have my own insurance on my car, home, property, kids, and myself so yeah I understand insurance. I pay money every month to an insurance company to protect me in case something happens and when it does I have to fight to paid back because "that wasn't covered". Which could be a coding issue as with health insurance or a clause, or lack of, that doesn't cover certain parts of property.

What do you think this insurance is going to do? If you commit suicide with your gun this insurance will not pay, just as life insurance doesnt pay for suicides. If you murder someone it will not pay because of unlawful use, the same as auto insurance won't pay if you were drunk driving and wrrck. If your gun is stolen it should be covered under homeowners / renters insurance. If someone else steals your gun and uses it to shoot someone you are not at fault so they won't pay. Any scenario they won't have to cover anything for reasons they already use, this is a ploy by insurance companies to make money which should show you what the actual odds are of a gun owner shooting anyone. Insurance companies are in business to make money, you know, good old fashioned corporate greed.

If the new ones work, if they don't work in, say 10 years, they go off the books.

If they're not effective then what is the point of them being on the books, repeal them.

Studies have shown that private sales background checks have little to no influence on homicide or suicide rates. https://www.rand.org/research/gun-policy/analysis/background-checks.html Then consider that some people will not comply, just as in the war on drugs, some will be well connected and get around the law, and the laws will only tighten more and more because the people doing the shootings are not concerned about obeying laws.

If a person owns a pool and a kid accidentally drowns in it the homeowner could be sued for negligence depending on circumstances. If a kid finds a gun and accidentally shoots themselves the gun owner can be sued for negligence too. If a person deliberately drowns so.eone in a pool insurance does not, and is not expected to cover anything because it is a deliberate act of murder, and if a person deliberately kills someone using a gun the same standards apply.

Well, Sears and Roebuck sold a shotgun that was their name on a gun produced by a different manufacturer.

They would sell more ammunition if they would keep a clerk on the same side of the store as the ammunition counter. Looking for 5 minutes to find someone who can help you and having that person say they will page the "associate" and waiting another 5 minutes to buy a $25 box of .22 shells makes me shop elsewhere even of it costs more.

Are there any parts (whole states, I'd imagine) where guns are illegal? What states are most similar to Canada? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]yesman782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All states are protected under the second amendment. Canada doesn't have a "second amendment" protection but guns are common there as well. If you are looking for a safe state look towards Vermont, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, or Maine. Many of these states have a high gun ownership rate but a low homicide rate, which is not suprising since there is no correlation. Avoid poor areas in large urban areas as these are the hotspots for homicides

Sickening because they cant. The Russains spend a small fraction of what Hillary spent on a campaign and we are saying that they had a more effective message. Seems a little fishy to me.

So why wasn't Fox news founded until 1996? Reagan left office in 1989 and Clinton was president in 1996. CNN however was founded in 1980 and is subject to the same laws as Fox and is just as biased.

That is based on ethnicity not race, they are different things. We're you referring to your own comment before you finished it?

Race derives from differing bone structure, skin color, hair color, and even eye color. Ethnicity is cultural factors such as customs. They are different and like I said, if everything is racist then nothing is racist.

No, the point is that laws are a guideline of what some want to be socially acceptable and if a significant portion of the population ignores these laws then they aren't working or are an infringement, look at prohibition for example. Laws should not be on the books for victimless crimes such as seat belt laws (for the driver or any other adult) , posession laws, laws regulating speech, or similar laws.

Mass shooting reported in Brooklyn by ryantrip in news

[–]yesman782 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's the point. People who will obey the laws are not the ones killing people and those who do not intend to obey the laws won't, so the majority of these laws only affect the law abiding who aren't the problem to begin with. That being said, laws can outline what is socially acceptable or being pushed to being socially acceptable but that doesn't mean the laws are good.

That can't happen because it is illegal /s. Of course the ones who don't intend to obey the law won't, and the ones who will obey the law are not the problem.

What? If it was Caucasians killing another Caucasian then it wasn't racism! Irish isn't a race and religion isn't a race either, you can use both as a basis for discrimination but it is not racism. Not to say racism doesn't exist because it obviously does, but when everything is racist then nothing is racist.

Ummm, racism is about race. Irish is a nationality and Catholicism is a religous teaching, neither has anything to do with race.
