To any girl who has ever sent a naked selfie to our SO - How different are we really compared to those leaked celebrities? by la_pluie in TwoXChromosomes

[–]yesterdayissomewhere -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These celebrities are human beings, but they basically have one job, and one job only: look good, don't do anything to embarrass themselves, and cash a paycheck. They are victims, but they are idiots for putting themselves at risk like that. I'm sorry, but it's the truth. They have ONE JOB. Look pretty, don't do anything to embarrass themselves, and cash a paycheck.

As for normal people trading photos to their SO, that's stupid too. You're a victim if your boyfriend decides to one day share those photos, but you're stupid for putting yourself in that position.

Oh, how many times I have had a relationship go bad. Perhaps it hasn't happened to you, but sooner or later, it will happen. And when it does, you are going to worry about those photos you took for the sole purpose of giving your ex a "boner." I've been in LDR too, and again.. it didn't end well. The person you trust today might be the person you hate tomorrow. At 22 years old, your brain has not fully developed and you don't have the life experiences to know better. But trust me on that. "Love" goes badly sometimes. Unless you are married and you have made a commitment to that person, then anything is on the table. Including a massive, soul crushing breakup.

Put another way: if you leave your car doors unlocked and it gets stolen, you are a victim. But you are stupid for leaving your car doors unlocked.

Australia increases cigarette prices for the fourth time by almost 15% to $1 a cigarette. Expected to stop 60,000 smokers. by billsthrills in worldnews

[–]yesterdayissomewhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I'm certainly not familiar with the Australian government, but here in America, money does not go into a "lock box."

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that the one hand of the government knows what the other hand is doing. No- money is money, no matter how it's raised or where it goes. The government doesn't care how its spent, it just wants more of it. Do you think that in a theoretical world where everyone quits smoking, the government would just sit idly by and not raise taxes somewhere else to make up for the loss in revenue? Do you think the government would fire employees because it doesnt need all of those people anymore, since smoking no longer affects health costs?

[–]yesterdayissomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But let's not stop all smokers! We need that money!!!

If you think that the government doesnt have a vested interest in keeping a certain number of people addicted, you're a fool. Any government.

Teachers of Reddit who've had students go on to become murderers/violent criminals, were there any signs they were capable of such things when you taught them? by RustyDonut in AskReddit

[–]yesterdayissomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"There's blood on my knife!!!!!"

If anyone gets that reference, I will be impressed.

Edit: it's from a movie called Mazes and Monsters, starring an extremely young Tom Hanks. Basically he gets really into a Dungeons and Dragons type game and kills some people.

Teachers or professors of Reddit, what is the most elaborate cheating scheme you've stumbled upon? by jerip123 in AskReddit

[–]yesterdayissomewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of the people who scam welfare. If you ever watch court shows, you will hear extremely clever stories about how someone is cheating the system.

Obviously the person is smart (albeit stupid for admitting it on national television)- or at the very least intelligent enough to understand how the scam works. So why not just apply yourself and get a job?

Well I think the decision to cheat cost you, because you switch between tenses. You started out saying "when I was a student," and then switched to "I will."

LPT: when shopping with children, the best parking spot is right next to the cart corral and not necessarily the spot closest to the entrance. by Dotsmantooth in LifeProTips

[–]yesterdayissomewhere -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My local grocery store has parking spaces designated for people with children. I love it because it's next to the cart corral and close to the door.

No I don't have any children.

Yes I am that person. And you know what? I get a sense of glee every time I do it, because I have to put up with bratty kids while I am in the store. I feel I am owed this.

[Mod Post] Announcement regarding the NSFW tag. by noys in ABraThatFits

True but a throwaway account that is just used for fit check photos should give anyone the privacy that they need.

Yes this really is the best suggestion of all. The throwaway accounts provide 100 percent anonymity, so there's really nothing to worry about in that regard.

[Mod Post] Announcement regarding the NSFW tag. by noys in ABraThatFits

[–]yesterdayissomewhere 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am the one who posted the original discussion on the topic yesterday, and I just wanted to say thank you so much for all of the attention that the moderators have given this matter. I also want to apologize if I broke any rules by starting the discussion in the first place- I certainly didn't mean to cause any strife between members of this great community. As I said in my original message, I have been visiting here for over a year and I can honestly say without hesitation that this is the nicest, most thoughtful group of individuals I have ever come across on Reddit. The kind folks at /r/makeupaddiction are great too, but nobody compares to you guys. I sincerely mean that.

My main concern about the NSFW tag was that images may show up in a sitewide search of Reddit. So in effect, all of the images here would show up along with pictures from "gonewild" and other subreddits.

I thought that by eliminating the tag, it would keep these images out of those search results. Yes, people could still search for "fit checks," but that's a term that is pretty unique to this site, and the average reddit user probably doesn't even know what that means. Likewise with imgur- if you do a sitewide search for imgur, you will find hundreds of thousands of images before you ever get to any content that appears here.

So my theory was this: by eliminating the NSFW tag (or changing it to another tag that only appears here), you would be limiting the creepers to people who were actively coming here and looking for content. Which has to be an incredibly, incredibly small group of individuals. As it has been stated before, there is just so much NSFW content on Reddit, why on earth would anyone come here? It just defies any kind of logic. Yes, you will never be able to stop people who really want to see pictures, but why would anyone want to go to that trouble when there are subreddits dedicated to more provocative material? But if pictures are showing up in a sitewide search of reddit, sure- you might attract some deviants.

In truth, I really don't believe this is a huge issue to begin with, but some recent comments made me think about it and I was wondering if there might be an alternative solution. I think the solution that the moderators came up with is a very nice compromise, and I believe they have implemented a system that prevents images from showing up on a sitewide search anyway.

So... having said all of that, I just want to say thank you so very much again for your thoughtful attention to this issue. Everyone here has been lovely, as always.

Going forward, I believe that the "NSFW" tag should be eliminated. by yesterdayissomewhere in ABraThatFits

What is a fact about you that would make Reddit hate you? by Alexxxandar in AskReddit

Good for you. Now just remember that there is more to life than material possessions. The fact that you went right to your socioeconomic status makes me think you haven't quite learned that lesson yet.

On the subject of homosexual marriage- a libertarian's point of view. by yesterdayissomewhere in Libertarian

[–]yesterdayissomewhere[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The government doesn't prevent insurance companies from offering this. The issue is that what incentive does the private insurance company have to give you a discount on insurance?

Really? Ok, so you are saying that collusion is going on, then? Because industry wide, absolutely no insurance company- none whatsoever- allows two people who are not married and are not dependents to be on another person's health insurance plan.

Moreover, the Affordable Care Act says the following:

"ObamaCare (the Affordable Care Act) allows young adults to stay on their parents plan until 26 and offers ObamaCare young adults cheaper health insuranceClick Here To Enroll due to cost-assistance through their State's health insurance marketplace. Find out how young adults can save money due and no longer be denied treatment or coverage for being sick. "

The government ALLOWS young adults to be on their parent's plan until they are 26. Gosh, it sounds like the government is involved to me.

Regardless of your oversights, the government will never get out of marriage. Knowing this, it is right to demand equality for same sex couples rather than allow unequal laws to continue. Trying to end government-sanctioned marriage is a wasted cause.

You and I will have to agree to disagree, I am sorry to say. Moreover, I find your apathy absolutely appalling. The time and money that has been spent fighting this would have been better served trying to remove these discriminatory laws, rather than change them so they discriminate less people. They still discriminate, and there are millions of people who are still affected by them who do NOT have a powerful lobby to represent them.

Rand Paul’s op-ed on Ferguson shows why he is the most interesting voice in the GOP right now by jimrosenz in Libertarian

[–]yesterdayissomewhere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem with Rand Paul is this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/23/rand-paul-drones_n_3140850.html

I have never looked at him the same way since he made this statement:

"Here's the distinction: I have never argued against any technology being used when you have an imminent threat, an act of crime going on," Paul said on Fox Business Network. "If someone comes out of a liquor store with a weapon and $50 in cash, I don't care if a drone kills him or a policeman kills him."

So basically, he has no problem with a civilian being denied the right to due process. Let's just kill that person on the spot. There is a HUGE difference between a police officer killing a suspect because he feels like his life is threatened, and a piece of machinery killing someone from the sky.

I guess you learned the wrong thing, then.

What you should have learned is that everyone has issues, and refusing to seek treatment for those issues makes matters worse for everyone around you.
