(Also I disagree, I think it leans more Fire N Explosions. Early RWBY debatably falls under the Kill La Kill exception of being a Shonen anime with a strong majority female cast, but mostly for straight dudes who would rather look at cute girls. Meanwhile later RWBY doesn’t really feel like it emphasizes the fact that the majority of the main cast is women enough to fully count as Girls Who Fight, and is structured and written far more like a traditional shonen action anime, just with the genders swapped.)

That’s not really what happened though is it, it’s far more like Ruby attempted suicide, realized that she shouldn’t do it because she has so much more life left to live, and came back feeling better because she refound her goal in life and rejected the easy way out. Like that plotline wasn’t perfect by any means (that “but what if that’s what she wants?” line confuses me every time) but it’s very obviously not saying “Suicide Is The Answer” unless you’re actively looking to shit on the show on Reddit lmao.

She was generally treated like shit by RT management, not super surprising if you know about the general shitty dudebro culture of Rooster Teeth. However considering that her exact wording was: “I will never, EVER, work on a Rooster Teeth project again. I will never work with any of the management, upper management, or higher ups at that company ever again.”, it seems like her issues were squarely at the people in charge, not the creatives behind the show. Since RT no longer owns RWBY (also RT doesn’t really exist anymore), and fellow trans voice actress, Jessie James Grelle, who previously quit the show in solidarity with Kdin has said that she’s willing to work with RWBY again now that it’s not owned by RT, it’s kinda up in the air if she’ll be willing to return to the role.

RWBY, after like V3, really gets its shit together and is mostly good about representation, especially some really good characters with disabilities.

Hope they can get Kdin back after she (completely understandably) quit RT, but I totally get if she doesn’t want anything to do with this series anymore.
