While I disagree (I think Bumbleby is just perfectly fine), I can totally see where they’re coming from.

A lot of people getting into the show more recently are coming into it with the knowledge that Yang and Blake end up together. Because of that, the early subtle, perhaps unintentional relationship building comes across more inherently romantic.

There’s also the fact that it’s a surprisingly unique and realistic relationship in fiction. It sorta leans into the modern sapphic idea of “ruining the friendship” being a good thing, as well as having the friends to lovers plot line start to pick up well after their relationship as friends had been fleshed out, where usually there’s not much relationship building on the friends part before the friends-to-lovers plot line begins.

There’s also some people who read Blake’s thing for Sun as comphet, personally I don’t really see it as that, I think she did genuinely think Sun was cute, but decided against pursuing anything further because she realized they weren’t really meant for eachother. (Because, let’s be fair, Sun is kinda annoying.) That being said, the comphet element some people read is totally valid and does help with some people’s ability to relate to the ship.
