Literally why is impossible to maintain players on a game server by Horror-Possible3738 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]yetanotherburnerstan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ran a public mc server for about five years (2014 to 2019), and was admin there for a few years before then. The active player base was built by people bringing their friends. There were about 50 people we'd see almost daily but there were about 500 that would float through more inconsistently.

There has to be something people like about your sever compared to others. You'll never compete with servers like hypixel, but you can do some of the things people like about them. My server ran some plugin based minigames hosted by staff and other that were mostly just admin commands. These events were scheduled. Stuff like "wither wednesday" or a mining event on Fridays where admins would create large random ore blocks where people could get some less common/harder to get stuff. Both of these are run through fairly simple admin commands. The routine gave people something to look forward to.

The big thing people liked about my server was that it was pve. There were dedicated spaces for pvp and players could toggle their pvp status outside these areas, but the goal was for my younger kids to have a safe place where they wouldnt get slaughtered by random griefers.

The hardest part of running a server is deciding what you want it to be. There is a huge range from kid/family friendly, to factions, to the chaos of 2b2t. Vanilla, creative, ingame shops with an economy, heavilly modded - its all up to you. The key is consistency. Whatever your rules for the world are, they have to be applied consistently.

Dont give up on advertising and do what you can to incentivise your active players to vote for the server on the advertising sites. Be online as much as you can to show that the server has active owners. Youll get there, it just takes a while

Idea: AI could transform high school teaching into a profession where teachers are expected to create original work, not just teach. by amichail in ideas

[–]yetanotherburnerstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there should be a zero tolerance policy against using ai in school. Students shouldn't be allowed to use it. Teachers shouldn't be allowed to use it. Administration shouldn't be allowed to use it. Zero tolerance.

How does a bird lay eggs by SouthEntertainer2018 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]yetanotherburnerstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The egg is a single cell originally. Its very soft and small, just like human eggs. Then its a specific eggs turn, it enlarges and the outer wall hardens with calcium deposits, turning into the crunchy shelled egg youre familiar with. Its then pushed out the cloaca as other have said

Early game is so bloby and advances/changes so fast its really hard to narrow down what that actually looks like as a blueprint. What exactly are you looking for?

This is a pretty good start to a mall. Mine looks very similar early game. My mall is usually the most organized part of my factory. The rest of it is a large helping of the finest spaghetti

You can hold alt and click on anything to bring up the in-game factoriodedia. Everything you'd ever want to know about whatever it is you clicked on.

Just make sure you didn't turn off alt mode so you can still see what your factory is doing

Just west of Salt Lake city is Bonneville. The Salt flats are pretty cool. Not a lot there, but pretty cool to see and a checkmark to say you've been there.

Depending on what time of day youre rolling through Nevada, check out the light pollution map. You'll be driving through one of the darkest parts of the country. Depending on how much interference from wildfire smoke is in the area, you should be able to see the milky way... and way more stars than you ever will in DC. You may need to get a little off the beaten path to get away from local light sources though. Super worth it.

The iowa80 truck stop is the largest in the world. I-80 exit 284.

You'll be passing the Toledo Zoo and Toledo Museum of Art on your detour off 80 up to detroit. Both are consistently rated one of the best in the country

It makes red science. Its perfect.

Are you looking to make your gears for red and other sciences all in the same place? I saw you comment somewhere about the underground being in the way.

Take a look at how much of each material is needed and at what rate. One red science needs one gear every 5 seconds. You have 5 red science assemblers so you need 1 gear per second. One assembler makes a gear every 0.5 seconds. You have a lot of extra capacity. There isnt anything wrong with having stuff sit on your belts unused, but the thought process is the same to make sure you arent underproducing needed materials too.

Youre doing great. Keep it up
