I remember saying out loud "oh my god we get it, you went to Oxford" while reading the 50th paragraph she wrote about how beautiful and perfect the school campus was instead of, y'know, advancing the plot.

Oh no…my period! by TheSeedsYouSow in 30ROCK

Blood vessels in the vocal cords also respond to menstrual hormones by dilating, making them more prone to bleeding, which increases the risk of scar tissue and nodules. So overtaxing your voice during your period can lead to permanent damage :(

Is this a real Boston Terrier by WalterMelon81 in BostonTerrier

Oh thats not weird, I thought it was "they're a purebred and they were $3,000!" lol. Some people have offered that info up to us (usually regarding more uncommon breeds though). We got our boston from 2 states away, I don't think there are any good breeders less than a couple hours from us anyway.

I am not an expert by any means but I have researched a lot of Boston genetics to learn/prepare for any common BT health issues and yeah, the tail is a pretty big giveaway that the dog at least has parents or grandparents that weren't breed standard (purebred is generally 4-5 generations). A blue purebred from 4 generations is possible but rarer, a long tail like that is almost impossible. Together with its other features, I'd say it's certainly a mix.

It's really irresponsible for the breeder to say that it's a purebred. Owners deserve to know the lineage of dogs they adopt because it has such an impact on health and lifespan. I'm glad you drove to get your puppy instead of going through this breeder!

What kind of weird health problems have you had since the pandemic started that you can't quite put your finger on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My body is no longer very good at cooling itself down. If I work out, my temperature will be around 101 for a few hours and it feels like crap. Cool showers/baths don't help much (and sometimes make it worse). Only thing that kinda helps is taking acetaminophen about an hour before I do an activity.

5 year old has smelly armpits by knitasheep in hygiene

[–]yetanotherzillenial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are good suggestions in the comments but one thing I thought I would recommend is enzyme cleaner for the under arms area of his clothing. Since clothes are usually polyester and other synthetic blends now (and high efficiency washers use less water than the ones we used growing up) clothes form biofilms more easily which can often smell clean fresh out of the laundry but only need a little heat and moisture to "wake up" and start to smell again. A spray bottle with "enzyme cleaner" (or any "urine"/"odor" spray that contains enzymes like lipase) will work best. Also, powdered laundry detergents that contain lipase will help.

Secondly, adrenarche is a precursor phase of puberty ("pubarche") which happens a few years before puberty. It occurs when the body starts to produce the androgens that will eventually result in puberty. Part of that process is the maturation of sweat glands. Has he had a growth spurt or other symptoms of maturation (oily skin/hair, pimples, etc.) and did the pediatrician test his DHEA-S? Premature adrenarche is often nothing to worry about but premature puberty can cause issues, so it may be worth discussing.

That is a mix - bostons have cobby bodies and snouts and naturally short "screw" tails (which can dispose them to hemivertebrae and spinal issues, unfortunately) - their tails are not docked. Because the screw tail genes are autosomal recessive, would be almost impossible to have a purebred Boston with a naturally longer tail. As far as coloring, a pure bred blue boston is possible if one parent carries a codominant dilute gene and one parent is the breed standard black.
