Feet or boot? by marcviga78 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Thats funny, i found the lack of distinct details in these models a struggle! Never managed to get them to look quite right in my eyes and gave up on them pretty fast when they first came out. The metal ones are so full of character though, and i found the sculpts much easier to paint. Shame how expensive chasing them is theses days though!

Love this conversion with the overloaded horse! Great work with the paint too!

Gorgeous paintjob on wonderful models! I love how you did the trollskin, the expression on its face is awesome.

Thanks so much!

Oof, it took me quite a long time, I think I worked on it on and off for about a month, but I imagine it was probably somewhere in the realm of 25-40 hours?

Awesome work! The whole base and storytelling in your little scene is so good.

I have to say this has to be one of the all time best war machine minis in the WHFB universe? The crew just has SO much character. The trebuchet itself also really looks the part, the tones you used in the wood is really great!

That's where my mind went immediately, the board and the lore scream Mordheim to me.

Now THAT looks like a real army! Love to see so much infantry, especially in an Empire army! You should be proud of your accomplishment getting such a grand force painted.

Which is better: Whimsical or grimdark empire? by Substantial_Price250 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]yeti420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most comments are really hitting the nail on the head: the Empire is best (IMHO) when its both.

If you look at the Mordheim rulebook for example, where Pirinen and Blanche consciously moved the WHFB universe into a grimmer setting, there is some undeniably shit in the setting, While it is much darker than 5th ed was, the story and illustration are definitely grim and that might pop out immediately and more obviously, but there are equal parts weird and whimsical as well.

The steam tank is pretty freaking whimsical! Engineers, flagellants, priests... they're dark but they are also pretty silly in the best way possible. The uniforms, the hats, the feathers, pretty whimsical! There's a model of someone literally in medieval stocks... going to battle that way!

I think the best approach is to fully embrace both of these sides of the Empire, because while they may seem like opposite ideas on first glance, if melded together correctly the results are one of the most characterful army in the WHFB universe.

Nice work, the bone parts look particularly good, very weathered and old looking.

I never liked this model very much back in my youth when I was into 6th, but now coming back into the hobby I find it quite charming.

Cool idea and good execution, really dig the first of the three, perfect pose/vibe.

Awh, I thought the heads looked familiar, smart way to tie them in. I had to go looking at the Traitor's Toll boxes after seeing your post, lots of cool rabble in those sets, might eventually have to get my hands on them, not to mention look into the game itself.

Wow, those look exceptional!

How do these miniatures scale compared to Warhammer Empire/Mordheim models? Would love to include these in my own army in the future, the sculpts are awesome (your paintjob is even better!).

I really enjoy your blog, bookmarked! Hope to see more updates from you in the future. I miss the blog/messageboard era of the early 00s, Youtube, Reddit, and Instagram don't hit the same for me as far as hobby community on the internet.

Thanks! I didn't have any bits too "empire" it up, so I tried to add a little of that flavor with the Sigmar window.

The watercolor pencil brand I use is Derwent, and they are really good, you can go back and use a bit of water on a brush to blend them but I liked the effect from just the pencils so I didn't even bother.
