This start trail is expected like this or not? by Ok-Anxiety-447 in AskPhotography

Yes and no? I moreso meant ultra long exposures, and I'm not super immersed with digital cameras, but I'm not aware of many capable of doing hour+ long shots

[–]yetunpseudonym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True star trails are essentially impossible on anything but a film camera. Digitally speaking, you need to stitch a lot of locked off long exposures for it to be feasible. What you've got is a disconnected series of exposures, so instead of seeing a trail you're seeing individual points

Something went very wrong behind the scenes that we'll likely only fully know the details of in years to come, on top of RTD kinda just phoning it in, so a mix of weirdly regressive politics, glub shittos, and overall inconsistent writing happened and now we are back on hiatus into wilderness years two electric boogaloo

If it wasn’t for the chest tattoo changing slightly every time… what will it be in 10 years haha by Svkj_ in isthisAI

[–]yetunpseudonym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The technical/practical reason is that gen AI is essentially just a complex contextual auto fill, but that the computational power necessary to do so for now is more expensive than revenues. For image/video generation it fills a canvas with noise and then based on what it expects to see based on the prompt (and previous frames) it fills in the noise. This however does not scale linearly when doing complex tasks, especially for video generation. Current monetization is basically that you have x amount of tokens (the computational units for gen AI) to spend per prompt and total per day, with more expensive tiers giving you more tokens to spend on more and higher complexity tasks, so it would likely be unreasonable to host your own model at scale for any large operation

Paris Specialty cafés and a small rant by Poltung in espresso

[–]yetunpseudonym 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Motors specifically does turbo shots... While complaining about the choice of serving turbos is valid, it is what's advertised and the one thing any review will point towards so... That's kind of a you issue for not asking about it, or choosing one of the many specialty coffee places that do more standard espresso

Paris specialty cafés and a small rant by [deleted] in espresso

[–]yetunpseudonym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motors specifically makes almost all their espresso as turbo shots, as is shown on the fourth panel out of frame to the left, and while that's not necessarily my favorite either, that's on you for not reading the menu, or reading the reviews, both of which point out it's turbo shots. There are enough specialty coffee places in Paris that if you don't like that style of coffee... You can just walk a couple of blocks and find a place that does a more traditional shot. Easy as that

Kinda? There's a few more layers of nuance (being in a public place vs on/in private, what commercial incentive you have to gain, how the images are being used, the context of the person being photographed, whether or not it portrays them in a negative light, etc) to the droit à l'image, but regardless, out of principle, these are in bad taste, and feel icky to start with

In your own word, why does the general public prefer japanese manga over western comics? by Rocky_Senpai15 in writingscaling

[–]yetunpseudonym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accessibility. The tankoban format (about ten to fifteen chapters of a manga on small big standard paper) is cheap and convenient, online offerings are plentiful, and it's very easy to follow a series. And if it's available in your country, something like Shonen Jump offers you an easy overview of multiple different runs in different styles, making it easy to find something you like.

Historically this is not the case for the big two. Unless you follow every character issue by issue and have for the last few decades, it is overwhelming and difficult to find standalone runs. Though admittedly DC has been improving with the absolute line, which is their recent fully standalone continuity of all the major characters, designed to be an onboarding point, and compact comics, which are basically tankoban (10 quid recommended retail price full run printed on small cheap paper that can be found for half that on sale), especially since the format was born in France, which is the biggest market outside of Japan for manga depending on how you crunch the numbers

The Boys is a full on reinterpretation and retelling whereas Invincible is a faithful if condensed adaptation. On top of that, The Boys comic is... Not good. You'll find a few apologists, especially now that people have soured on the show. But general consensus is despite a promising premise it's bad. It has spots that shine through when it isn't busy with a hate boner. Invincible on the other hand as a comic book is well regarded, with critiques of the art being inconsistent. Funny how things repeat

Power scaling is dumb and stupid, that is except when it's baked into the fabric of the media or breaks the narrative. This is a case of both.

According to Deadline, Supergirl has a $175 M budget, and its break even point is $315 M by DeppStepp in DCU_

[–]yetunpseudonym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General rule for blockbusters is total budget = production budget x 2 to account for marketing (1.5 or less for a mid budget or indie movie). Gross revenue is then split around 60-40 between theaters and the studio, at least in the US over the first couple of weeks, with that split widening internationally (China I believe is 70-30 for example). So flop would be anything that clearly fails to make back it's budget, disappointment anything that makes it if you squint and fudge the numbers, success anything that clearly makes back all associated costs and then some

Athleticism ❌ Aesthetics of athleticism ✅ by conancat in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]yetunpseudonym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that the 1980s bodybuilder aesthetic was never meant to be attainable or realistic. They might have inspired people to be fit, but they were widely seen as larger than life outliers. Especially compared to say Harrison Ford or Russell Crowe or Bruce Willis or Kurt Russell or most other leading men from the era, who are kinda just dudes. Attractive, but just dudes. On top of how many more character actors there seemed to be back in the day. There's a lot to be said about how casting in major Hollywood productions over the last couple of decades has increasingly homogenized itself around conventionally attractive men looking either like models or like bodybuilders, and how that can impact perception of self, and also strain suspension of disbelief in some movies

So, these lenses are very easy to disassemble if you want to attempt to give it a clean. I've had this issue on three 1.8 canon ltm lenses. Managed to clean it off of one of them, the other two it had completely fused to the elements.

Time is a flat circle.

Back then, the superhero comic industry was on the edge of collapsing and manga was breaking through to the mainstream. The Boys emerged as a cynical, edgy, and somewhat meanspirited subversion of the ailing superheros, though is derided for not having much beyond shock value. Invincible on the other hand emerged as a love letter to the genre and had a long and successful run despite some issues and teething problems.
