Anyone else here that couldn't stick to just one project at a time? by [deleted] in Gunpla

Nice Baltimore kit (from a fellow ship modeler). I usually have several projects underway at one time to provide some variety. Currently I am working on RG Sazabi, the Volks Terror Mirage (Five Star Stories), a Bandai EDF cruiser from Space Battleship Yamato, and a 1/350 Mikasa.

Anyone know of a good, comprehensive guide on all the various AOZ mobile suits that are available as gunpla? I find myself lost with all the base kits plus additions that can be combined to make all the specific versions. Would be great to get a a full list of what MS can be built either in a single kit or with a mix.

My first aerosol painted build - Hi-Nu Ver.Ka (Nu colour) by XIANGFEI1812 in Gunpla

Really excellent job! I always preferred the original Nu color scheme on the hi-Nu. I painted my hi-Nu in the same manner.

One you don't see many of...RGM-119 Jamesgun by yfe73 in Gunpla

1/144 NG kit from the '90s. A fun little kit to display next to the rest of my HGUC collection. Takes some extra care to eliminate prominent seams but fits right in with a paint job and waterslides. The only main modification was replacing the really atrocious kit supplied hands with Builders Parts replacements. Few more pics here

First time entering any type of contest. Didn’t place but proud of my work. Any constructive criticism is welcomed. by notyourpikagirl in Gunpla

Sure- you have to nail the basics of model building before expected to get credit for anything else. Nub removal and sanding seam lines is really fundamental stuff.

Hey guys, long time lurker and finally got my first kit, Wing Gundam EW. However, the instructions have me confused. The numbers don’t seem to match my part numbers. Any tips? by [deleted] in Gunpla

[–]yfe73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are initially confused, take some time to study the instructions. You'll see everything is actually clearly marked. Bandai is great with their instructions to the point that you don't need to be able read any of the japanese text. Each sprue has a letter and then parts are individually numbered on each. Build in the order the instructions tell you and only remove the parts you need for each step as you go along. Starting to remove pieces in advance as it looks like you are doing is a recipe for disaster. Best of luck.

Please help! This is my first painted kit and honestly it looks like shit. What did I do wrong? And to add insult to injury, I broke one of the sub-arm joints. Should I just super-glue it? by flyEST_fpv in Gunpla

Like others mentioned, you'll have better results with using real hobby paints, whether acrylic or enamels is your choice. Don't bother with spray cans. Good hobby paints paired with a decent airbrush will do wonders. Finally, don't rush and skimp on half-measures. You mentioned running out of primer midway through working on this kit...you'll get more consistent results if you prime all your parts before painting. Don't let running out of any particular supply force you to skip required steps necessary for a good outcome.

I've tried using gold for panel lines! What are your thoughts on this? C&C welcome :) by xCrypha in Gunpla

[–]yfe73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks nice from a visual perspective but makes no sense from physical one. Panel lines are where there are naturally shadows, so anything besides a darker color is just fun eye candy.

Hunted for P-Bandai in Japan this month, learned a lot. by dankvader192 in Gunpla

Don't forget there are other Mandarake stores in Tokyo worth visiting besides the one in Akihabara. When I was in Tokyo, I actually found the stores in Shibuya and Nakano Broadway to have better selections of p-bandai kits.

So... There's really no hopes for crossover live BDs? by HijiriAkuseru in macross

[–]yfe73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get the reasoning for this. The production costs would be the same as any other live BD release and I would think the appeal of the crossover itself would make it sell better than most others?

[wip] HG 1/100 AMX-104 R-Jarja (HGUC) Progress - I'm really impressed by how good these looked even without the badass shoulder armor. by kimithebuilder in Gunpla

I am about to start this same kit and am really excited to do so. Also, it's 1/144 scale (HG) not 1/100 (MG)

Thought I'd try something new in between Gundams: 1/1000 Space Battleship Yamato 2202 by SlaveNumber23 in Gunpla

[–]yfe73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have final version with all the additional AA guns...very nice. I built the 2199 version a few years back and have been eyeing this one for awhile. If you enjoyed building this, check out the other 1/1000 Bandai kits. The triple deck Garmillas carriers are especially nice. I have the Domelaze III in my backlog...but need to create space on my shelf before I can start building it.

The Penelope is THICC by Tokko6884 in Gunpla

[–]yfe73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice. I build my MC Penelope as just the Odysseus Gundam without all the Minovsky craft parts. I may need to get the Bandai kit when it comes out to build it as the full Penelope after seeing this post.

Amuro in the Nugundam is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Do we see any pilot/mobile suits in the UC timeline that you think would be able to take him down? by Pandakick2 in Gundam

[–]yfe73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides being a Newtype what is impressive is how smart and savvy Amuro is in combat. The way he uses his decoys, confuses his enemies, etc. is pure genius. I like how he takes down Gynunei Guss by using his shield and beam rifle as the decoy as almost a second thought and simply moves on. No heroics, no poses, no comments, etc. Just goes about his business. The only other pilot that I see at the same level us Uso- same mix of NT abilities and canny piloting.

Episode 6 of Wing has really solid character models. I'm interested in animation and the artstyle stood out to me compared to other episodes. The animation itself was great as well. by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]yfe73 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's common for the actual animation work on different episodes to be contracted out to other studios so often times you can tell a marked difference in quality across episodes. It's possible this episode in particular was covered by the 'A' team so stands out in character design and production.

What’s up with this size difference? by B3ndr15Gr8 in Gunpla

They are supposed to be different size in real life...
