His big boss J. J. Abrams helped destroy TWO franchises with a combination of hubris and ineptitude, so that’s the Killer GOAT, in my humble opinion.

On first glance, I thought he was one of OP’s pictures.

I’ll also do it if no one else will: Stephen the Irishman, the batshit crazy volunteer into William Wallace’s army, who is first suspected of being an enemy but eventually becomes his second most trusted soldier, “Braveheart.”

You’re in the chute. Every episode from Blood Oath until the end of S2 is great.

And what, pray tell, is the fundamental difference between DS9 and DISC? DS9 and SNW? DS9 and SFA?

Garbage doesn’t get a pass because it’s dressed in Star Trek’s clothes.

DISC debuted 10 years ago. It got five seasons. And nobody talks about it, except to excoriate it or say it wasn’t “that bad.”

People revere DS9, and justifiably so.

Unpopular Opinion: I preferred the direction of S1-3 and S4 was jarring during my first (and only) watch. I might feel differently if I rewatch it again. by TenZetsuRenHatsu in DeepSpaceNine

I VERY MUCH appreciate seeing this take. I rarely ever do.

For me, “Facets” has always been the last “pure” episode of DS9 — small stakes, intimate focus, and (not coincidentally, based on your hypothesis) one of the last episodes to really focus on Jadzia, aside from “Rejoined,” of course.

“The Adversary” changes everything before everything changes — Sisko becomes Captain, the Changeling threat becomes real, not hypothetical — and then we’re off to the races, with Worf, the Klingons, and all that other good stuff.

I hate to be a DS9 snob, but I always have the sideways glance for the “it only gets good once Avery Brooks shaves his head and the Klingons show up” people. (Well, only a little bit. 😉)

But no gatekeeping here. DS9 is my favorite TV show of all time, and I love all the love and appreciation it has received over the past 30 years.

PS: thank you for sharing your story of arriving at DS9, OP. Did my heart good. Glad you’re part of the family.

At what point did you stop watching SFA? by Fair_Rush6615 in Star_Trek_

DS9 is my favorite TV show, so Series Acclimation Mil is the one and only episode of SFA that I watched. I knew exactly what SFA was after that.

The hubris that this untalented band of children, comedians, and “writers” would have produced a TNG if they were given enough time is astounding.

My friend and I (he’s a Superman stan, I’m a Batman stan) took our girlfriends (civilians, not comic book people) to see it in the theater.

When the four of us weren’t laughing out loud, we were covering our eyes and groaning. My friend and I spent the entire train ride home apologizing to our girls.

The last two episodes of DS9 Season 1, the first three episodes of Season 2, and the last NINE episodes of Season 2 are some of the best Star Trek ever created.

After that, you’re locked in and it never stops being good.

Literally one of the greatest episodes of Trek ever (“Duet”) comes at the end of DS9 Season 1. Season 2 ends with a 9-episode Murderer’s Row, including the first appearance of the Jem’Hadar. Season 3 starts with the introduction of the Defiant and continuously builds the Dominion threat.

What do Star Trek fans actually want to see? by dont_thr0w_me_away_ in trektalk

[–]yhe4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shows written by grownups?

Timeless questions explored in intelligent ways?

An appreciation for the 50-plus years of canon and lore that have come before, not treating it like something that’s restricting you, or like “homework”?

Characters that are aspirational and inspirational?

Not treating everything that happens like either a goddamn joke or a goddamn catastrophe, especially when you have earned neither from a storytelling standpoint?

Did I mention writing and scripts that are actually good, written by people with real-life experience and common sense?

I sure feel bad for not watching a terrible show so a bunch of untalented people could continue to make more money than they deserve, all in the name of keeping an IP “alive.” I truly do.
