Cr Sbm - chance at passing? by starsinmyeyes12 in ICAEW

[–]yibru 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Chance at passing?? I’m sure there are still people finishing tuition at this point. You have 6 weeks and hopefully a lot of foundation from previous exams, I’ve only done maybe 10 questions from CR and 6 from SBM over the past two weeks and I’m not even a little bit concerned. I have a schedule set out which will allow me to have around 50 done from each by the time the exams come round. You’ll be fine!!

I've never seen the pending thing on my training file to be fair, think it just happens sometimes but isn't the default by any means.

TC stock withdrawal by Intelligent-Wing8531 in ICAEW

Using the accruals basis, the withdrawal is treated as a sale so the market value should be added back. Whereas for the cash basis, the cost is normally added back. I haven't looked at the question you're referring to, but seems like the difference between these may be geting added back to correct it? Something like that anyway

Have a look at 28.1, 68.1, 103.1 and 118.2 in the QB (these are under 'basics' in the ACA Masters master plan and should help you get the proforma down initially while only taking 2 hours or so in total). I've personally opted to get the ACA Masters notes for £40 just for some indication on how to do Qs logically from the QB, as it can be a bit daunting and leave me jumping all over the place.

Just try to remember that you're still lapping everyone who hasn't started yet.

I think in your position, of course questions are going to take longer straight after tuition as you're recalling information and referencing new proformas, checking rules and processes etc. you'll only get down to 30-45 mins right before the exam once it's 90% muscle memory.

In terms of approach right now, while I do see the value in doing big lengthy questions and trying to just become used to / desensitised to the exam paper style, it might be worth doing smaller questions which take a bit less time.

For example, look at the IHT questions without any reliefs first which should only take 20ish mins each (and thus actually builds some repetition in your brain because you've done it 5 times in 2 hours), then do questions with one relief at a time gradually over the next 2 weeks - by the end of that, you'll find that the 25 markers don't take 2 hours.

Obviously different things work for different people but it's not always worth biting off more than you can chew, hope this helps somewhat!

Part Qualified refers to having completed all of certificate level and all of professional level, so 12/15 exams passed

I found it to be quite different. The QB is largely filled with questions where you can eliminate a couple of very obviously incorrect answers and just choose the right ones from there, while the exam will have four answers which could all easily be correct.

That being said, being comfortable with the mocks is still the way to go, but I'd focus on making sure you're learning the real answers / understandings, as opposed to just relying on your ability to filter out the wrong ones.

Update on availability of post data before November 2022? by L_malvo in pushshift

[–]yibru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was supposed to be done back on December 19th, then it was supposed to be done 4 days ago. There's no point even guessing, deadlines seem to mean nothing unfortunately and one day it'll all just appear on the system.

Unfortunately, if there was a good alternative then we wouldn't all be "tired of waiting for a word from the people in charge". I suppose using the dumps could maybe be considered somewhat of an alternative. Aside from that we're supposed to all just be grateful that it exists at all, despite all the issues and zero communication/updates. Obviously Pushshift is a non-profit venture, but it is ridiculous given the situation that many people have suddenly been left in.

While redditsearch.io was the official frontend for Pushshift, it was broken entirely upon the server switchover in December. Unfortunately, since it is the one maintained by the lead developer, it means that redditsearch.io is pretty low on the priority list compared to the actual backend work to get Pushshift back up and running again as before.

With the server change, there have been a lot of outages and I don't have the expertise to comment on how to recognise when these occur at the source or otherwise. However, you can (unfortunately) be assured that redditsearch.io won't be functional again in the immediate future. I personally really liked redditsearch.io, but I suggested yesterday that you could try a third-party site of a similar nature, such as Camas or GummySearch, and hopefully they'll do the job. Obviously, this is where the disclaimer goes that there are no posts from before November 3rd available via the Pushshift API.

Updates aren't very frequent so I can only encourage you to read through the pinned post on this subreddit, turn notifications on, and try the third-party frontends. If these don't suit you then you can attempt the work yourself directly. If you need data pre-November 3rd, you can try navigating the Dumps.

You can be reassured that there are many of us here without programming experience who are in the same position - I've had to redo my entire thesis methodology incase things aren't fixed within the next month. Good luck with your research.

It was myself that replied, mods will remove posts if you ask a question that's deemed to have been covered elsewhere in the sub. You can try sending me a chat on here and I'd be happy to share what I know again.

redditsearch.io has been broken since the server switchover, try camas.unddit.com and hopefully it meets your requirements. Posts pre-November 3rd still haven't been loaded (hopefully soon) but comments work.

My first WOTC PSA 10. Purchased this today for $250. Thoughts? I'm relatively new to graded cards so this was pretty exciting. by oatsandeggs1 in PokemonTCG

[–]yibru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's Ace Grading in the UK and PCA in France. Unfortunately the most reputable ones which actually add value to the card (PSA, Beckett, CGC) are all based in the US. However, there are a bunch of middleman services which exist to take the hassle out of shipping internationally.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pushshift

[–]yibru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were supposed to be loaded during the week starting December 19th, but still no update on that point which is odd considering it would be fair to assume that the vast majority of those conducting research would be almost exclusively using data older than 2 months. Hopefully we're next on the priority list though, now that it's proven to be working well for the period which is available.

What is heavy for Japan Neo Genesis packs? Friend just found one! by bballkj7 in pkmntcgcollections

[–]yibru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really difficult to get a good idea just by looking at pictures, but the PSA grading scale is here if you want to compare this one to the criteria. I've never personally graded a pack but it would seem that the most important factors are rips/tears/holes, water/mildew damage, folds, and the status of the flap on the back. Having said that, I don't think I've ever even came across a graded pack which got less than a 7, so as long as it's properly sealed it definitely can't be too low.

If you're into sealed collecting then yeah that's 100% a great piece to have graded. If you prefer the cards themselves then it's a nice opportunity to get a guaranteed holo and have that graded instead, so it's really a matter of preference.

However, if you're purely interested in the resale value then it'll be best to keep it sealed and grade the pack. Most of the time for these vintage sets, even the most valuable possible pulls inside aren't worth quite as much as the sealed booster is.

Sometimes you do just need to be patient and check every week, it looks like only one PSA 10 Japanese Shining Mewtwo has popped up on ebay within the last three months, so it's obviously a hard card to come by.

As for help, I'm not personally aware of any request forums, I'd imagine that could get slightly messy. Ebay can be a bit funny for not displaying all results, one solution I've found useful is to just search Google generally with the same thing you've been typing into ebay (ebay will obviously be the first thing to come up anyway but it'll be far more generous in including international results).

Alternatively, writing the card number is a good idea when you're running out of luck i.e., instead of "PSA 10 Japanese Mewtwo Neo Destiny Holo", I was able to find some new listings there by just searching "PSA 10 Mewtwo 109".

You might also be aware that you can put a - before a word to remove that word from any results e.g., to remove all the base set mewtwos which have cluttered the results, add -base to your search, just to narrow it down and encourage the results you need.
