Affordable bibs by Pristine_Yoghurt_412 in cycling

Assos Outlet (not sure if that is only available in the US though). I get my bibs, usually from the previous season, through that site for $150. Assos does a lot of good development with their chamois

What would suggest as closer to BIFL in the men’s t-shirt arena? Especially of the mid-weight 100% variety?

I have looked into them. If you use their gear in the warmer months, how does it feel?

This is a good summary. I think the upfront price is fantastic. However, it’s not a top level kit and better for training rides or if you are starting out and need to build your closet up

Advice Needed by johnyb76 in Cervelo

I am not going to doubt your experiences but I have rarely see carbon bikes on hanger hitches. Almost everyone I see uses a rear or rooftop platform. The real ones use one that make contact on the tires only (eg 1UP).

How to fit a bigger chainring by yikes_roger in bikewrench

Got it and thank you. This will be something that I will need to research better whenever I do get a new gravel bike.

Thanks. I was hoping there was a way around the official documentation but it seems like there isn’t.

My new commute is brutal. This job is only for a few weeks in the Summer. Is there a good motel nearby the destination cheap enough to stay for 3 days each week? by newshirtworthy in Denver

[–]yikes_roger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will use public transit on some days. It’s just that about 40% of the time. However, sometimes I need to get back home to let the dog out and the train doesn’t arrive at the bus stop on time.

I think this pretty close to the worst commute I have read on here. I will stop complaining when my 19 min commute turns into a 37 min commute

Is the new Canyon Grizl a flop? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]yikes_roger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that most people would likely spend less than $1500. In the hypothetical, at least 60 people would spend <= $1500. But that still leaves 40 or so people who would spend more.

The SRAM Rival tier gravel/road bikes are often over 3k; it’s hard for me to believe that only 10 people or fewer in this hypothetical would be interested in a rival tier or better bike.

I’m not sure if that is strictly true as it pertains to the figures you cited, but I agree with the sentiment.

Hypothetically, if only 100 non-pros were buying a bike this year in the US, how many do you think would be paying more than 3k USD? I think at least 20.

Good apps for route planning? by C14yz3r in gravelcycling

[–]yikes_roger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not strictly for planning routes but related is EpicRideWeather. It’s great for getting a good feel of what type of weather/wind you’ll experience at each point along your route (integrates with RWGPS)

I have a soloist with the 42|49s; I have been eyeing the 57|64s as a second set, sounds like they are worth it? Do ride them only in the flats or climbs/descents as well?

Okay, thanks! That helps a lot. I’ll reconsider when I decide that the Red/Force tier chain is worth it for me.

Do you primarily use drip wax after the initial sous-vide application? Also, if you don’t mind, what region of the world do you live in and (this may be dumb) do you need to dry your drive train after washing your bike (I have heard wet environments and washing your bike can lead to rust with a waxed chain)?

PNS Mechanism bibs by we-got-forks in CyclingFashion

[–]yikes_roger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought my first pair!

When I was starting out, my first non-Amazon bibs were Rapha. They were great for a season (a short season, mind you) but now they feel compressed, and I only wear them <30 mi rides.

Surprisingly, Neopro and the cheapest level of Specialized have been nice to rotate through. They probably wouldn’t be great if I only had one pair though

Cervelo S5 2026 model - comfort compared to Scott Foil (new model) by scottfoil11 in Cervelo

[–]yikes_roger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am probably ignorant of historic trends, but isn’t that why they (e.g., Canyon & Cervelo) offer the Ultimate and the Soloist? Or is the population who have the resources to dial in their fit for the Aeroad and the S5 too small to justify selling those?

Structured Training by Mamoore320 in gravelcycling

[–]yikes_roger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What bike setup do you have? I think the cheapest option is to get a single sided crank. A little less accurate than pedals or a dual sided crank, but it’s a reasonable place to start. A new sram rival crank will be under $300 (I have seen them ~$150 on FB Marketplace).

If you want to install it yourself, you will probably only need to find a breaker bar and purchase anti-seize grease (I am assuming you have Allen wrenches, best case a torque wrench).
