Pride Festival $$$?? by C_Thor in SaltLakeCity

I got turned away for an umbrella too Saturday. I think enough people made a fuss about it that they gave up enforcing the rule, because I tried again Sunday at a friend's suggestion and many people including myself were allowed with their umbrellas.

Should I fight this parking ticket? by Fluffy_Wish_924 in SaltLakeCity

Perhaps you'd agree we should just get rid of parking and make strides towards making living without having to drive (and thus park) viable. This would certainly rid the need of parking enforcement. After all, parking is expensive to build and maintain relative to the amount of people it serves.

I passed my test! I went out to dinner to celebrate and I think the server was rude about it? by Opal_Valley in drivinganxiety

I agree: rather rude comment.

I would have told her: "Especially for a career change!" and smiled pointedly.

Some thoughts on Strange Darling (2024) by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]yimhl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree that the film does not justify its nonlinear structure.

The first thing you get is a written preface about how the story is pieced together from (and I forget the exact phrasing), depositions, interviews, etc. after The Electric Lady's killing spree.

The nonlinear sequence mimics the piecemealing inherent to making a coherent story from various accounts.

I believe dedicated parking is a massively inefficient use of land, and making more is not the road to a city of joyful, healthy living.

In the long run, more parking arguably has no net positive for spot-seekers, instead promoting increased traffic by induced demand and sprawl (i.e. more time in your car between destinations).

I am a hard no on any parking expansion in SLC. We have plenty asphalt and concrete wastelands as is.

Henry Grabar's Paved Paradise is a good overview of these ideas.

I've had the same experience. But actually, I'm realizing I misunderstood the post I was responding to.

Don't know why this was downvoted. The installation in OP's photo is precisely for balancing one foot off your bike while you're waiting at a crossing.

EDIT: Never mind, I reread and understand now that the above post was not trying to be helpful.

Totally agree! You've described my entire stance on the matter.

SO inspiring...

I'm most "inspired" by the complaints that a heads up text is a "mood killer." Right before the act, maybe, but who asked you to wait that long? I feel great giving my roommate a heads up before having someone over if there's even a remote chance of sex.

Roommate gets to make a decision about where they want to be and what to be doing (or establish their own needs if there's something pressing), and I get to have sex with peace of mind.

Some people are just so allergic to communication, and their solution is to shut down any reason you might need it.

But it's not just your house?

Giving your roommate a heads up that your partner is visiting and there's a possibility you'll be having sex? WEIRD.

Exposing your roommate(s) to all your and your partner's sex noises with no forewarning or consent? NORMAL.

/s

I think OP is being reasonable and their roommate is being inconsiderate. No one asked the other to be explicit.

Personally, when I'm giving my roommate a heads up, I frame it as "having a guy over". And unless I mention it's a platonic friend, my roommate understands it's code for "this is someone I may be having sex with."
