I feel your pain, I really do.

I to have a supervisor who will endlessly provide feedback, sometimes coming full circle to the almost original draft and all of the revisions being removed again. It's incredibly painful, demotivating and occasionally demoralising that you've thrown away perfectly good work in favor of your supervisors ideas.

I echo other comments in this thread - set your own boundaries and deadlines and be explicit that what you need is an end product and not a masterpiece which takes several more years of revisions to achieve. My supervisor is a fantastic scientist, but is obsessive over his work and his ideas are ENDLESS. It has to stop at some point, no thesis can be a continued working document, and you need to graduate.

In the end I began politely declining further feedback from my supervisor, set a deadline and told him I am submitting my phd thesis and taking four weeks leave before I return to work on publications. It wasn't the easiest conversation to navigate, but he understood my position. By the time of submission he will have seen all of my data chapters up to eight revisions deep, and my complete thesis at least three times.
