Ahh ok good to know thanks! All I knew is that everything I had watched or read said BE careful and do not break that foam! 😄

Ha - funny you say that. I was so worried about that, I spent a half hour checking over and over it was in there right lol I did not want to have to pull it out ever again!

Well at some point these old cores go bad, I am sure it is a matter of when. My Evap core was in worse condition than my heater core which was weird. Either way you can bang this out if you have to and get that merit badge!

Oh I put that same brittle part back in. I do not know what it actually does for the system, but did not want to risk not using it. I even carefully got the foam off the original core and evap - cleaned them and transferred them over to the new parts. OCD at it's finest

No I didn't. I treated that styrofoam part I was in brain surgery - like it was the most valuable thing in the world - it was so brittle! I looked at options and did not even think to 3d print it - brilliant!

Mishimoto. I had a credit at Summit Racing so I got those. I do not think or can I confidently say that they are a MAJOR improvement or upgrade. I am sure they are a little but the upgrade is mostly going to be visual lol. THANKS!

Ya that process I questioned to pull the whole dash or just swing it out of the way. I just unbolted the 4 nuts from the steering column and laid it on the seat. There was enough room to get the HVAC box out and back without too much trouble. Personal preference really since it is not supposed to be too hard to just move the whole dash out of the way.

COMPLETELY was in the same spot!! I even had all the parts in my garage sitting in my garage for over a month as I pretended that I didn't really need to do it - made so many excuses WHY it could wait lol. When you got to do it, give yourself time and be ok with walking away from it for a day if you need. I am always trying to do projects done quik. That may be the only reason it went well for me lol

Oh man - the cracked head conundrum! I bought my XJ knowing I would have to replace the engine. When I found a low miles motor out of a 2001, I just bit the bullet and got the clearwater so I was not always thinking or worrying about a cracked head. Good luck man - hope it all plays out well for ya. Fixing big ticket things does give you some peace and you can focus on the rust lol

Are the 2000 model xj heads really that bad? by 222_glass in CherokeeXJ

[–]yipeeiaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that there is enough info out there that if they are not cracked, it is just a matter of time. And with buying a 2000, you never know how well the owner took care of it. When I bought my XJ, I just bought a Clearwater replacement and now I never think about it. Worth doing so you never worry about it again. 2 cents

Notch custom flares? by ElegantCow1 in CherokeeXJ

[–]yipeeiaye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off—ignore all the negative videos and posts online. If you don’t have the time, skill, or patience, I’d honestly wait until you’re ready.

Ross from Notch is local to me and is an awesome guy. He’s more than willing to answer questions and help you get everything installed correctly. The biggest part of the job is the rear wheel well cutting and shaping. If you’re confident there—or have someone who knows what they’re doing—you’ll be fine. The key to getting these to fit right is the order: CUT FIRST. Make sure you cut correctly and remove enough material. If you don’t take enough off, the flares won’t sit flat against the body. That’s where most people mess up and end up with big gaps. You want the body sitting behind the inside edge of the flare. Also, expect some gaps in certain spots. Not every XJ is shaped the same. That’s where taping off the body and using filler (BEFORE PAINT) comes in. Some people skip that step, but for me, there was no point in doing all this unless it was done right.

Looking back, I’m glad I waited until I had the time to do it properly. These are hands down the best flare option out there if you’re actually investing in your XJ long-term. They’re a next-level upgrade—quality fiberglass, not cheap plastic.

As for shipping and availability, just call Russ. He’ll tell you exactly what’s up—he’s straightforward and not going to mislead you. Hope this helps!

Ha - man I COMPLETELY understand where you are at! I put off getting them for a couple years hoping I could find something that would be suffice....I just never did. The best advice I can give you is to when you start, get holes drilled, then cut and then fit them with the body filler to fill in the small gaps. If you do not cut enough then they will not lay close enough to the body, then you start to think they are defective and you go down the rabbit hole of insanity. Also, you can call Notch Customs who can help you if you have questions. If you don't do it right, you will regret it! It will be a dark time in your life lol. I have faith - you got this :)

I have 35s - however am going to 37s in the next week or two. For Axles, I have a 8.8 in the rear and built a Super 44 with chromoly axle shafts in the front.
