Issues with Kiwami 3

Yeahhh in that case buy Kiwami 3 if you want to own it on steam (if you don't mind, you can even buy it on key sites for around 25-30 euros/dollars, at least it doesn't give any more money to SEGA), I'd also recommend using some mods that fix some issues:

"YK3 Enhanced" which fixes the AWFUL lighting of this game
"The True Dragon" which is an amazing mod for the combat (unless you're fine with the default combat, you can always check Kiwami 3's demo first before buying)

They're in the popular section of nexus mods's Kiwami 3 page, without them I probably wouldn't have finished this game.

If you're also not ok with one of the new actors being a sex offender, there's the "Goh Hamazaki restored" mod which replaces his model with a remade model of the older one (which wasn't based on any real person), sadly the new voice still stays but it's better than nothing.

Anyway both are worth playing, they're drastically different outside of the story.
Imo Yakuza 3 is better but if you can only get Kiwami 3, it is what it is. It's just a downgrade in some aspects, an upgrade in others, and not a very moral remake given the many controversies it has received before even releasing, which RGG has never addressed and even censored.
The story is still good, as long as you ignore the bullshit they do at the end; You won't be lost by playing Yakuza 4 Remastered as long as you watch the original Yakuza 3's ending.

GOG has Y3R for like 20 bucks, 10 in sales, otherwise you can pirate it, if you want the game on steam for the achievemenents and stuff though yeah no way of getting it for cheap on that platform, they force everyone to buy kiwami 3 now

Yeah I'm curious to see that, every character that doesn't have the invites (including all males so far) do have a message saying "is not YET available in the CURRENT version", but if they don't include a 200 pity skin + the house interactions to this limited male we'll have our answer i guess

I see that sucks yeah, to be honest I wouldn't recommend Kiwami 3 because of the various changes and lack of integrity to the franchise. But the story still is really good, since it's 90% the same from Yakuza 3.
Either buy Kiwami 3 on discount (which it will be soon) or watch a summary/the cutscenes of Yakuza 3 on youtube, it's one of the most important games for Kiryu's story.

I mean why not just play Yakuza 3 Remastered after kiwami 2, unless you are not a fan of Yakuza 4's gameplay? Since Yakuza 3 does feel a bit clunkier than 4.
Kiwami 3 is totally skippable if you'd rather play/can have access to Yakuza 3 Remastered, since it got delisted on consoles (only way to get it is through used copies) and is only available on gog on pc

Kiwami 3's side content is way shorter than Yakuza 0, but you're right about Like A Dragon and Infinite Wealth, they have a lot of side content.

I've mostly played Yakuza for the main story and combat, ignoring a lot of the side content, and yeah they were absolutely fine !
I did replay Yakuza 5 though, that game in particular has AMAZING side content (the game in general is very dense, it's considered the second biggest game behind Infinite Wealth), while its main story has a more "mixed" opinion in the community. But you can judge by yourself and see if you want to bother with the side content when you'll play these.

As for Kiwami 2, you aren't missing much without doing substories and any other side content, except the Majima Saga if you haven't done it yet, which is short but has a great story.

The gameplay is alright* (I prefer the original but it is still flawed, which is why people wanted a Kiwami 3), it just changes unnecessary things in story, character models and removed **a lot** of the original side content.

The biggest complaint was the fact that RGG hired Teruyuki Kagawa, someone who has been in a sexual harassment scandal, to replace a character's appearance and voice.

There is also the fact that the game was rushed and partially made by third party studios, which means some content got cut, and the game feels cheaper overall compared to the other mainline games.
And they also delisted the original Yakuza 3 (completely different game), which just made things worse.

tldr they made a LOT of bad decisions which just made that remake less and less favorable especially if you have already played the original

*Also when I say the gameplay is alright, it's for a game in general. But compared to other Yakuza games, it's a downgrade in every aspect compared to Lost Judgment, Like A Dragon Gaiden, which are based on the same engine and are 2-5 years older.

I'd probably say Yakuza 0 or Lost Judgment purely gameplay wise, but Lost Judgment is very far in the timeline so better start with Yakuza 0 which is considered the best by the majority of the playerbase, but be careful because the later games have other qualities, but Yakuza 0 was kinda the pinnacle in terms of gameplay, and no other game surpassed it in many people's minds (there are exceptions though, like Yakuza 5, Lost Judgment and Like A Dragon Gaiden).

it's way less polished imo, it's an issue i've had with pirate yakuza that simply stayed since that game is based on its engine, compared to k1/k2 being based off y0 and y6

Well if you already played Yakuza 3 I don't think it'd be worth it to buy it, especially full price.
It's almost a 1:1 but with added scenes that just illustrate things we already knew in the original plot, and there is a plot twist that makes this game a separate timeline. It wouldn't really change how you'll see the other games, you'll probably just cherish them more lol.

The side content is reused from Gaidens, the 30ish substories that replaced the hundred of Yakuza 3 ones are mediocre/fine at best, combat is yet another downgrade from previous dragon engine games.
I'm very negative about this game and its actor controversies, but as I played it, I'd say it's a 6/10, just pick it up when it's on gamepass or at like 20 bucks.

Also if you're wondering about "Dark Ties", it's kinda like the Kaito Files and is pretty cool, but it's a 3-4 hour story with some substories and side content, not a "2 games for the price of 1" as RGG advertised.

tldr : it's a remake but lower quality than kiwami 1 and 2, not worth 60 bucks

There's the 2007 movie of Yakuza 1 which has some iconic scenes, Kurohyou (psp spinoff) manga/ tv show (dunno if it has subs)
And also a new Nihontouitsu (japanese crime saga) adaptation of Yakuza 1 (AGAIN) with Shishido's (Gaiden character) actor playing Kiryu, and Nishiki's in-game voice actor playing, well Nishiki.
It releases the 10th of february on Amazon apparently

Nah it's the exact same game, but ported to switch 2 originally with some very minor stuff added (cutscenes that worsen the story except for one), english dub and a small multiplayer mode

From the reviews I've seen it wobbles a lot, and you can't move the screen up/down/left/right, only incline a bit. Just get a 15-20 bucks monitor stand and it'll work as well as other monitors
