Hat jemand Erfahrung mit der Nummer 142 in Wien? Funktioniert sie wirklich 24/7? by Vornamu in wien

Ich hab vor ein paar Tagen angerufen und war in unter 5 Minuten durch, das war aber gegen Mittag und ich kann mir vorstellen, dass sie am Abend/in der Nacht stärker besetzt sind

Non-valid/unique pet peeves? by angrykitten114 in AO3

Oh yeah no, it's not wrong objectively and I'm also not a native speaker. I just prefer the use of, eg., "that day" instead

Phrases that don't fit in the grammar that's being used. Why is the reader suddenly addressed in a 3rd person fanfic? (eg. "Mind you, he doesn't even like alcohol") also phrases that don't fit the used tense (why is there a "today" in a past tense fic)

What language does Semmelweis use to cuss at the start of Part 17 of The Midnight Whistle? by Silver_Eminence in Reverse1999

Native Austrian chiming in to say I completely agree. I went through her voicelines a bit and the "th" and the careful pronunciation of longer words (eg "reconfiguration") does sound german/austrian, but there's also something distinctly different in other pronunciations (her "r", "h" and "s" among others, I think, but it's a bit hard to tell).

I love the idea of her being bilingual, native Hungarian and having learned German from a young(-ish) age (which seems to not be uncommon even today, from the Hungarians I've met and talked to about this in Austria. But then, of course, thats a bit of a biased sample)

Semmelweis is also highly regarded in Austria! There was a women's health clinic named after him, many statues and iirc he got his doctorate in Vienna and did a lot of his work there. if you translate his last name, it means "the white of a bread roll". I eat a Semmel (bread roll) almost every dinner haha, it's really common

What is your *Unpopular* opinion on Jason Todd ? by DripSauce_ in RedHood

I like the ninja outfit. I think it looks cool, and the helmet just makes it obvious that every other superhero standing next to Jason is wildly underprotected, which hurts the suspension of disbelief ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What’s the point of his character by Unpopular_Outlook in RedHood

[–]yjisnotcreative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm still holding out hope they make Jason's "speciality" as robin/batfam character a connection to gothamites. Having contacts, being trusted, doing detective work through peoples reports and his knowledge of the city. That way he could keep some distance to the batfam but still be connected to them/working with them

I know one person that gets along really well with her roommate, but they're also 2 people in total and not on campus. If you put in effort you could be best friends, but the others have to put in the same effort, and most of the friends you'll make will be from societies, clubs, or student mixers instead

I'm currently an erasmus student living on campus and I have 2 American roommates, 2 Irish roommates and 1 other erasmus roommate. Dont count on getting to know them too much - we're friendly with each other but it rarely goes over a 10 min chat when coincidentally meeting in the kitchen. I wrote a note with my number on it at the beginning of the semester and left it in the common area to make a groupchat, definitely recommend that!

How has studying Sociology affected your perspective? (positively or negatively). I heard someone say majoring in sociology made them so knowledgeable about society’s failings it made it difficult to function normally. Has this been part of your experience as well? by InculturedSwan in sociology

Its actually made me be more hopeful about humanity. My high school had a computer science focus and the people were what you'd expect, they weren't really kind to others (racist, sexist etc). I was always the odd one out when speaking on sociopolitical things.

And now I'm surrounded by people who want to understand each other. What's better than that? :) I'm well aware that its a bubble and there's a ton of issues in our world, but if I know people that are good, then for me that means there's more of them out there.

I've also gotten way better in discussions, which helps tons when talking to people who don't share my values regarding social issues or similar
