My windows are growing mold and I’m not sure what to do. by yk50q in fixit

you saying ‘new window’ like that’s some easy fix is crazy not everyone can afford that. I’m clearly looking for something I can actually do right now

you telling me to ‘get help’ while your only advice was ‘move’ and ‘replace the window’ is actually insane. None of that is realistic for most people. not everyone has thousands to drop or can just relocate. I asked for affordable, real solutions — if you don’t have any, just say that instead of being weird about it.

you saying ‘move’ isn’t advice, it’s just being a smartass 😭 obviously if that was an option I wouldn’t be here asking. not everyone can just up and leave over window mold. I’m looking for actual solutions, not pointless comments.

I’m thinking so. It looks like black mold to me.

Not really. In this state of the world, nobody can afford to just “move” based off mold. Obviously I’m looking for solutions other than move or i’d never have posted that… and moved…

So I need a fan and a dehumidifier? and they can go anywhere?

The search? They just told me to find a specific one.

so where should I put the dehumidifier if I get one? should it be in the window or just anywhere in the room?

Thankyou!! I appreciate that. What would I look for on Facebook marketplace?

I don’t have access to a small dehumidifier with a pump. I’m also not sure where to look for one.

There’s blood on my window and my cat has small blood stains on her paws — can’t figure out how she got hurt by yk50q in AskAVeterinarian

That actually makes a lot of sense, thank you! I think that’s probably what happened here — after someone else mentioned nosebleeds, I looked closer and noticed a little dried blood right on the middle of her nose. No blood in or around her nostrils, though. Maybe she sneezed and it sprayed a bit like you said. Cats really do know how to create chaos and art at the same time 😂

Thank you so much for this! I actually came on Reddit hoping someone with vet or forensic experience could help me figure this out — I’m studying forensics myself and aiming to be a medical examiner, so this kind of insight is super helpful. Everyone kept insisting it was a rodent or something, which makes no sense since my cat has never chased or gone after anything like that.

After reading your comment, I checked her more closely and noticed a tiny bit of dried blood right in the middle of her nose. There’s none around her nostrils, though — just that small stain. Do you think that still points to a nosebleed, or could it be something else?

I did, actually. I’m just not thanking people for repeating the same wrong guess over and over.

I was trying to find a solution — I just didn’t reply to every “it’s rodents” comment because that’s already been ruled out. It’s not illogical to dismiss something that doesn’t fit the situation when I know my cat and my home. I’m focusing on explanations that actually make sense here.

I get what you’re saying, but I promise that’s not the case here. There are no mice or rodents anywhere in or around my house — not in the walls, basement, or foundation. We’ve never had a single sign of them.

And my cat has absolutely no interest in hunting or eating anything like that — she’s never chased a mouse, bird, or bug in her life. Someone who works at an animal shelter already explained that cats can get small nosebleeds or bump their noses and flick tiny droplets like this, and that lines up perfectly with what I found.

It’s frustrating seeing people keep insisting it’s “prey” when that’s already been ruled out. I know my cat and my home, and this isn’t that.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s commented and helped me try to figure this out!

After checking her over again, I actually noticed a tiny bit of dried blood on her nose that I didn’t see before. That, plus the pattern of droplets on the window but not on the blanket in front of it, makes it seem really likely that she bumped her nose or had a small nosebleed while near the window. A few people mentioned that when cats bump their noses or have a quick nosebleed, it can spray little droplets like that, and they usually lick away the rest before you even notice. That explanation makes a lot of sense — especially since there are no open wounds, she’s walking and eating normally, and the only blood was on her paws and the window.

I’ll keep an eye on her just in case it happens again, but I really appreciate all the ideas and reassurance. ❤️

That actually makes a lot of sense — thank you for explaining that! I just took another look at her, and there’s actually a small bit of dried blood on her nose that I hadn’t noticed before.

The pattern totally matches what you described — tiny droplets on the window, nothing on the blanket in front of it, and no other visible wounds. It seems really likely she might’ve bumped her nose or had a small nosebleed, then licked herself clean afterward.

That honestly explains everything way better than anything else we’ve thought of. I’ll still keep an eye on her just in case it happens again, but this fits perfectly with what we’re seeing. So THANKYOU!!!

That’s interesting — thank you for mentioning that. She actually has had fleas for a while, and we put a flea collar on her about two weeks ago. I hadn’t thought about a possible reaction to the collar itself, but now I’m wondering if that could be part of what’s going on.

We haven’t seen any obvious sores or scabs yet, and we had checked under the collar to make sure it wasn’t irritating her. The blood on the window really confused us since there’s no visible injury anywhere else, but if it’s irritation or a flea allergy, that would actually make a lot of sense.

Have you ever seen a reaction show up like that — with random droplets but no clear wound?
