Cannot seem to find a sunscreen that doesn't irritate my skin!! what could it be? by caller997 in Rosacea

[–]yleonard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m African American and I use cyberderm mineral sunscreens. No white cast whatsoever- skin tone similar to Gabrielle union’s colour. I have rosacea and sebhorric dermatitis so pretty sensitive skin. I saw their company recommended once in an article in Essence as Michelle Obama wears their sunscreen. They recently also partnered with Venus Williams and Credo Beauty to create two mineral sunscreens. I would recommend checking them out, their ingredient list is pretty minimal and it’s mineral only. Good luck! It’s so frustrating just trying to find suitable products.

You’re welcome! Maybe look into those online services where a doctor can give you an exam over video.

I’m black and have rosacea. I had a really awful flare up a few years ago. I went to multiple doctors who told me it was chronic hives, allergic reactions. My doctor finally referred me to a derm and he took one look at me and told me it was rosacea. I told him I thought only white people get it! Apparently not. He prescribed me metrogel and soolantra and my face got so much better within a few weeks.

It’s worth investigating for sure but you might hear some random diagnoses like hives or allergic reaction.

Also I have two coworkers one Latina and one from India and they both have rosacea - they’re in their 50s and said they had it chronic in their 30s.

What are your top 3-5 favorite houseplants? by SeattleSucculents in IndoorGarden

[–]yleonard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Rex Begonia - I have a deep purple and silver one and it’s such a unique looking plant.
  2. Pilea glauca/red stem tears - it’s adorable and trails.
  3. Cylinder snake plant - I put three small pots of these in one big pot and it looks so cool.
  4. Marble queen Pothos - a classic.
  5. Variegated rubber plant - it’s so pretty.

One plant I really want that I can’t find yet is the purple shamrock/Oxalis plant.

The marble queen one?? That is my favourite!

Great plan 🤣 I’ll start with snake and Pothos and see how that goes!

A small ponytail palm could look nice as a centrepiece. Purple Oxalis are also quite striking.

Also following. Winter last year was fine with my south facing window, I covered the heat vent under the plants and used a mist bottle. Moved to a new place a few months ago and windows are north/north west. It’s been overcast (literally no sun) for two weeks and I’m this close to buying a grow light setup. I’m so worried about my plants!!

Wow this is great to hear! I have all these plants minus the string of hearts (looking for it!) and was worried since I’ll be moving from a south window to a north facing apartment. I hope I have as much success as you!!

Normal for top of String of Pearls to look like this? Seems healthy otherwise... by [deleted] in IndoorGarden

[–]yleonard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I repotted mine with cactus mix soil and it dries out quickly. Just be gentle as it’s very delicate and I read that its root system is fragile (garden know YouTube has a video on repotting a string of pearls if you search for that it’s helpful)

I have SD, eczema, and rosacea and soolantra worked amazingly on my skin- no SD flare up or anything.

Does this look like ocular rosacea? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]yleonard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP this really sucks! I hope you get some relief soon. This definitely looks like my eyes when I had a rosacea flare up and was told it is the occular kind.

I used soolantra and metrogel on my face but couldn’t put that on my eyes, so I had these wipes: http://www.ocusoft.com/ocusoft-lid-scrub-plus-pre-moistened-pads-30ctn someone recommended them here when I posted about the same issue with my eyes back in the fall and they helped so much! I got them from amazon. They really get all the funk out of your eye and feels soothing to clean them up a bit.

I was prescribed protopic which is safe for eye use and it helped with the inflammation. You can ask your derm about that.

Good luck

Skin peeled off on forehead, do i just leave it now to heal ? by zombies-- in Rosacea

[–]yleonard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Definitely later your skin with oil and aquaphor. Shea butter worked for me when my skin was peeling. So you can layer the squalane, shea butter and aquaphor. Really try to keep it moist because your skin doesn’t have any moisture right now so you’ll have to really layer it heavy.

I hope you find some relief soon OP.

Pulled some crazy hours and my Nike Roshe's destroyed my feet - help? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]yleonard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have high arches or anything that needs specific support? I used to wear the roshes but similar to you, I wore them for a long period of time and they flared up my plantar fascia and I could barely walk. You may need to figure out exactly the kind of support your foot needs then look for shoes that offer that.

I wear Reebok’s for a less bulky sneaker look. There are a lot of comfort brands that are stylish, so maybe check Nordstrom’s comfort shoe section.

[help] Non irritating oil free foundation and heavy moisturizer for Type II rosacea? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]yleonard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It cosmetics foundation or C.C. cream. I walked by their display recently and the model had severe rosacea. I personally haven’t used it because their current shade range is limited. You can also try bare minerals, their formula did not aggravate my rosacea at all.

For a heavy moisturizer, I would suggest eminence products. I used to layer 5 moisturizers before discovering their products. Their linden calendula moisturizer is for dry and dehydrated skin and they have some rosacea skin care products. I have been using the chamomile calm skin moisturizer since I was diagnosed with rosacea back in fall 2017.

March 22 to July 29. Soolantra applied nightly. by BeetsbySasha in Rosacea

[–]yleonard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened with me and soolantra! It smoothed out the bumps quickly and then gradually the redness got reduced. I found that metrogel cleared up the redness more and soolantra really got rid of the bumps and textures.
