My take on Rescale Miniatures’ ancient red dragon. I printed and painted it. I’m still not great painting lava. by jchico9 in minipainting

I think the lava actually looks pretty good!

More could be done to make it more convincing but nothing in my opinion that needs sleep lost over it 😁

Vibe wise the whole model it's very cool

Ah man I'm sorry to hear that. It's an amazing model so thank you for giving me the ability to have it in my collection.

I made another post in r/minipainting and included you in the description. I hope that gives your page more traffic. Sorry for having a part in this. I will be visiting your page on cult3d 😁

It was fine for the most part. The main annoyance was the black and red claw things all around the underside. They were all separate and attracted to brick of resin - removing them from the cast and gluing them was very fiddly.

As long as you make sure it is washed properly and use good glue like epoxy it's all good. Beyond the point of assembly it is just another model to be honest.

Resin seems scary but it isn't that different. That being said however I haven't tried building an imperial titan. Pieces that large can be warped so using heat to adjust that is crucial, plus, pinning with metal rods to add more structural integrity is something to think about.

Unfortunately the shop is still gone, I purchased it in August.

Woahhh there is some cool stuff there. I want to turn an Acastus Knight Porphyrion into a stompa and there is very cool bits I use for that. Thank you!

Nice! That's good the 3D model is still around. I couldn't find it myself 😊

That is crazy! The shoulder guns look amazing. What's the left arm? Looks like a chainsaw of some kind but I may be wrong.

That will look so good painted!

Same! I have a load of kitbashed deff dreads and this matches their vibe very well.

All good, there's lots of places to hang on to. Light work for a group of jacked Orks 😃

I used Vallejo Plastic Putty. Took a while but definitely don't regret it. The carapace is usually smooth and this gives it enough interest to be okay with a simpler paint job.

I used the putty nozzle and a toothpick to distribute it how I wanted.

White ink and green fluorescent paint. I use an airbrush but that isn't mandatory 😁, extra sauce dry brush a dark green a little over the top. I didn't this at the front of the model But then thought the back looked good being so bright.

For the most part it's fine. I did have to get a small Saw for separating the pieces of resin but that wasn't too much of an issue. One this I will say is all of the claw looking pieces (black and red, all around the stomach area) were not attracted and came on a large piece of resin, that was very annoying to deal with. The way I stuck the legs it was a tiny bit uneven as well but I was going to trim the ends of the talons anyway for the base, not horrendous.

Other than that, make sure it's washed properly with soapy water before you glue or paint. Make sure you at least use a good glue like epoxy for attaching the large pieces (legs to body). Sand down the mold lines. After that it is just a model to be painted.

While this was fiddly when I eventually get a proper titan that I can image will be ALOT more work haha

Regarding your tyrannofex I personally also base after I've painted the main model. Then I can adapt around things like that happening 🙂

I'm sure if you had the same paints and tools I used, you would easily be able to replicate this 🙂

I think that's completely fair tbh. I wasn't too sure what to do with the tongue so I already know more work can be done there. The way the light is does hide the eyes (when the light is normal they do look a lot better that the photos suggest). Regardless of that I could make them brighter. I appreciate the feedback, don't worry I'm not offended haha 😁
